magneto: how do you have so much faith in humans to do the right thing when they have proven you wrong time and time again?

my comic for the fairy anthology we made over in webcomics garden discord! Wretched work to make a comic that's only 8 pages..
woke up this morning, rolled over, and very confidently tried to blow out my alarm clock like a candle. absolutely no precedent for that.
In the year 1450 a priest rolls over and slams his hand into his candle, burning him and sending wax flying all over the place
it’s been like two days since i’ve been touched and im like crawling out of my skin i’ve been absolutely insatiable recently it’s torture. can someone come over and touch me always? thanks.
do NOT awawa at your former coworker who is messaging you on linkedin trying to help you get a job at his current company
its such a natural response that i've typed it out of habit and then deleted it like 6 times

The way some people react to the Monty Hall problem is a good illustration that correctly identifying that you're being tricked and correctly identifying how you're being tricked are two separate skills. Some folks immediately intuit that there's a statistical sleight of hand in play, but because they have no insight into how it works, they interpret any attempt to explain what's really going on as further trickery. It's like showing someone that the rabbit was inside a secret compartment in the hat the entire time and having them respond "haha, you won't fool me that easily!"
(And, of course, while hypotheticals like the Monty Hall problem are a relatively harmless way for this to happen, they underline a very important fact: going in against a scammer without fully understanding how the scam works can easily have you doing exactly what they want you to do while totally convinced that you're beating them at their own game.)

the fact that on my way out of seeing the hadestown proshot with my sibling i was walking to the theater exit and without even thinking about it i turned around to see where they were... yeah. yeah.
like. you can be frustrated at orpheus. you can be heartbroken for orpheus and eurydice. you should be. but when you're walking together and your loved one isn't right next to you that instinct to turn around and check on them is as natural as breathing
