I’ve been asked this question countless times since I announced my new music, so I wanted to write something up quickly to give you guys an answer:

Why the name Gorgeous War?

The name actually came from quite a while back. My drummer at the time, Ryan, told me that he was reading a book once and saw “gorgeous” and “war” next to each other. The words really struck me, and from that moment they were this anomaly that just always stayed with me, demanding further insight. It was an unusual juxtaposition of two words that don’t typically belong anywhere near each other. I wanted to dig deeper into what kind of meaning they could have together and understand why it resonated with me–so I did, and inevitably decided on that name for my music. Gorgeous War has profound meaning to me, both in my faith and as an illustration of what life is. To me, it’s a bit of a metaphor for the human condition. Every person out there has understood that on some level. But the name also carries this strong sense of hope; something as essential to life as the air we breathe. We each have our battles and yet, at the end of the day, life is a stunningly beautiful experience because there is hope. Since day one of doing music, all I’ve ever wanted to do is share that hope with people and help them be a little bit happier along the way. That’s my purpose here, and if I can do that through my music, that’s success to me.
