headcanon that newt gets paranoid as fuck about those he loves, like when he was a kid and his parents would go to the grocery store or something he'd go insane if they're out a second longer than they said. if he couldn't find alby in the glade he'd just start running around searching for him and asking people and everyone's like ok well there goes newt again. and he's also 100% constantly worried about minho out in the maze despite the fact that he knows minho wont do something stupid. whenever thomas disappears to think or some shit newt literally cannot relax until he's back and will definitely search for him if it takes too much time

I have a very similar headcanon and take on newt... hits newt with my paranoid personality disorder beam (yeah that's the disorder I have) (which I feel would explain a lot of his behavior in the books as a whole)

(ppd especially on the idea he's putting up a gentler "persona" to appeal to people and stay safe by gaining their favor, never really letting his guard down or being vulnerable out of fear of being harmed or having something about himself used against him.. what's more ppd than that bro.)

not to mention I SWEAR newt said something like "what if someone's waiting out there to attack us?" In the scorch trials when they were coming out of the dark hallway leading into. pure desert at the start. there's another time in crank palace where he's thinking he's gonna get jumped which like, tbf, crank palace. he might actually get jumped any of these times but then Why is no one else thinking it.. no one else says it... Just curious. just listening. there's more paranoid newt I have in my mind but I'm too lazy to go grab all the examples. I agree here. he is paranoid, disorderly so.

especially he's worried about the people he loves most.. Can't blame him at all. But he is still Paranoid about it and go an extent that goes beyond a normal person's worries. not that their situation is normal at all either LMAOO. But yeah. My ramble. Ur so right thank you so much

+ not to mention alby. idk if you know that personality disorders often have special person terms to describe common relationships that happen with those disorders a lot. for ppd, that's trusted person and a distrusted person most times. for newt? I can only imagine how much he splits on Thomas. trusted, untrusted, trusted, untrusted, plus the flare eating away at him the whole time. whereas alby was 100% a trusted person/tp for him. can you imagine. the one person you fully trust and let your guard down with is ripped away from you after saving your life and helping you find meaning in living again... that would hurt so bad bruh. it also makes his character arc feel so much more real to me. to lose someone you trusted THAT much.. above everybody else. fucking owie man. it makes sense why he'd subconsciously blame Thomas but simultaneously love and want to trust Thomas so so so so bad.
