btw while people continue to fight the system don't forget about Undue Medical Debt (formerly RIP Medical Debt), a charity that buys and forgives medical debt. on average a donation of $10 will forgive $1,000 of medical debt.
I'm fairly confident that this is now the one original post I've made that has gotten the most notes, and I honestly couldn't be happier. the more attention we give this, the higher the chances that someone will see this and donate. medical debt is both one of the most crushing things a person can deal with and one of the stupidest things humanity has invented. and if you live in the US, I have no doubt that you've had to deal with medical debt in your life, either for yourself or a loved one. even a small donation can do so much good, and now is the time of year when we are encouraged to think of others.
repeating this to myself forever and ever
i love explaining the etymology of the word "rickroll" because the story starts with "ok, so at one point 4chan applied a filter to everyone's posts that changed the word egg to duck"
grandfather....
It's that time of year again
I do not want the ai overview. I want to read six wikipedia pages as god intended.
I finally donated to Wikipedia this year. I usually donate to something more "food for children", but it's different now. We can't lose it.

So, if you notify him, he won't use it?
If this is in the US, report them for HIPAA violations. Seriously. ChatGPT and Gemini and all of those LLMs are not patient privacy compliant.
OK, SO!
This likely isn't Chat GPT or any of those.
What they're using is a note-taking AI that listens to and summarizes your visit. It's supposed to cut down on doctor paperwork. It is likely HIPPA compliant with the present version of HIPPA, which had major revisions less than two years ago but has still not caught with the latest in torment nexus technology.
It is 100% calibrated to find every possible thing to bill for. And unless you happen to know medical billing practices and law, it's going to upcharge the hell out of you.
I am sure doctors are not given sufficient time to check it's work, either, so lord knows what it's putting in your medical file. And to remind you, while every clinic must have a policy in place for you to submit a complaint about something in your file, and have that complaint or objection saved to your file, it is actually illegal for them to delete anything. (That sounds shady but it actually is a critical patient protection so doctors can't just delete shit and claim you made up something they said or did)
And yes, they should be turning it off if you don't consent.
Tell them you don't consent. If enough patients refuse the clinics will not want to keep paying the ghastly prices they're paying for these "services".
Source: I run a practice, and also got upcharged (and fought it and got it reversed), and also interrogated the hell out of my daughter's pediatrician about what was going on.
Well played Merriam-Webster.

I would never suggest anyone get a job but I would like it if you took up knitting and stopped arguing in my notes.
“Get a job”
Overused
Some people can’t work
No one wants a job
“Get a hobby”
Better
Actually wait people use that one
Shit
I genuinely forgot that’s a thing people just. Say
Uhh joke cancelled I guess
Remember "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" ? I feel like there's been a distancing from the "reduce" and "reuse" part and a favoritism towards "recycle" by corporate American.
Capitalism can still thrive with recycling in the mix. You buy Plastic Thing 1, throw it away after one use, and they take that and recycle it into Plastic Thing 2 and sell it back to you. All while continuing to harm the environment.
Reusing puts a damper on things. They can't sell you Plastic Thing 2 when you're still using Plastic Thing 1. Plastic forks, for example- there is literally no reason why you can't reuse plastic forks more than once (aside from maybe microplastics, but it's too late for that)
Reducing is the one everyone wants to ignore. Just don't buy Plastic Thing 1. You don't need Plastic Thing 1. Pick up a set of metal forks and use those for years. Convenience is killing the planet
the slogan is in that order for a reason! It is listed in order of effectiveness and impact; if you can't reduce, reuse. If you can't reuse, recycle.
Refuse what you don’t need
Reduce what you can
Reuse everything still in working order
Recirculate what you don’t need by sharing or selling onward
Refurbish what’s fallen out of good condition so it lasts longer
Repair what’s broken altogether
Repurpose what can’t serve its original function
Recycle what is unsuitable for repurposing
What goes unsaid here is why they’re all “re-“ prefixed: it’s about circularity. Keeping the resources in use means that we don’t have to keep incurring the environmental costs of production over and over on infinite one-way trips of new stuff starting in the earth, through human society, and right back into the earth in landfill.
thinking about how ursula k leguin said "what goes too long unchanged destroys itself. The forest is forever because it dies and dies and so lives" and how everyday i wake up slightly different and i can feel myself shed the skin of who i used to be slowly, slowly, until i look back and can scarcely recognise who i was... but also she is still a part of me, part of the leaf litter and the humus, supporting me as i send new roots down and new leaves stretching up to the sunlight
The problem with trying to come up with a way to say "this book has sex in" is that there's loads of options which all mean different things and none are perfect. Like...
clean/wholesome vs dirty - obviously this one is bullshit, we don't need to talk about why
smut/smutty - a classique. Pretty good, but feels like its falling out of favour.
steamy - as above, really. feels slightly more vague, makes me assume it's sexy but not explicit. More dated - been replaced by spicy.
erotic - erotica is a whole genre to itself, with different parameters to romance. Conflating the two weakens genre defninitions for both.
explicit - does what it says on the tin, but risks sounding a bit clinical. If steamy is make outs and fondling, explicit is genitals getting described up-close.
spicy - gets a lot of complaints, but lends itself well to a rating scale and is very popular
open/closed door - this is a good shorthand, but not very familiar to people who aren't reading romance. Again, doesn't rate very easily - a closed door is a closed door, but the open door could lead to either slow vanilla missionary or a full-on BDSM scene.
porn/pornography - comes with a lot of assumptions which makes it harder to use in certain spaces. Sits at the 5/5 end of the scale in my head. Similar to erotica in that its a distinct genre.
saucy - this is just a Carry On film. no one is aroused.
sexy - too vague. colin firth fully clothed in a pond is sexy. gwendoline christie in plate armour is sexy. that one fish from finding nemo is sexy. brushing hands described in the right way is sexy. could mean anything.
this book has sex in it - literally no
Then you've got the problem that websites like tiktok and instagram, which is where most marketing happens, can surpress content that's too sexy, especially if its queer, and authors are being forced to be over-cautious with the words they use.
And we also can't forget too that on these platforms you have to catch people's interest really quickly, and often they might not read the description. So you have to catch people as quickly as possible, using as few words as possible.

When I am elected president I will institute a law saying that anyone with a net worth over 50 million must, at their own expense, employ a Jester. They must feed, clothe, and house the Jester according to the Jesters wishes, may not fire the Jester, and may not retaliate against the Jester, as the Jester will have Jesters Privileges.
One must spend at least three hours per day on the company of your Jester, and allow the Jester access to your quarterly reports.
The Jesters will be chosen by voluntary lottery. Jesters will be regularly interviewed to make sure they have not become Lackeys.
This law will prevent rich folk from being surrounded with vapid yes-men. A lot of problems with the world right now are happening becuse rich and powerful men don’t have anybody on hand to say “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”
