I don’t know how to talk about the rabbit hole without accidentally inviting you to follow me down it.

nunchucks are illegal in some states but guns are not. so if you tie two guns together and create gunchucks it’s neither legal or illegal

“We can train ourselves to respect our feelings and to transpose them into a language so they can be shared. And where that language does not yet exist, it is our poetry which helps to fashion it.”

Gratitude - Tidying Up With Marie Kondo (2019)
I fucking love Marie Kondo. At this point, she’s the only minimalist/organizer I’ve seen who understands that an emotional attachment to things is a natural and good human experience. And she advocates for people to focus on all the things that they love, and doesn’t make judgements on what those things are. (And despite the negativity going around, she does not say to throw away all of your books! She wants people to treasure the books that they love, and create space to showcase the books that you care about.) She’s an angel and I love her.
yes ty!
also there’s a lot of reactionary or misled ppl trying to make her into some for-rich-ppl-only minimalist caricature when everyone she visits on the show is clearly middle class and sometimes poor.
she’s not forcing – or even suggesting – ppl get rid of everything for the sake of getting rid of things. one couple she visited ended the show with about double the stuff that other families started with, and yet she still praised them and told them how much better it looked, and they still said how glad they were they did it, and how they were satisfied with the amount they ended with.
>>>her purpose here isnt to be minimalist. it’s to declutter so that you keep only what you truly want and need, to give focus to your daily life so you’re not distracted or held back.<<<
and the ppl making her into some angry, all-powerful, scary-woman meme are just. being mean. or they’re genuinely frightened by a very gentle, kind woman, which is. weird. stop that?
some of the ppl on the show mistakenly lean toward getting rid of things that really matter to them in an effort to please marie, but like she praised a teenage boy who decided to keep his first sippy cup cuz he was emotionally attached to it. she told his mom to give the sippy cup a place of honor above the sink so he could look at it everyday.
>>>she, herself, is non-judgemental and encourages parents n family to be non-judgemental towards others, as well. she, herself, thinks you and only you can, should, and must, determine for yourself what to keep, and why.<<<
others are misinterpreting her, out of a need to please her (and then becoming scared of this boogie-man mother-figure they make out of her) and they shouldn’t, particularly since getting rid of everything is precisely not what she wants.
the one problem i have with people my age and younger is that a lot of us do not have hands on hobbies. like i have spoken to so many people my age who go to work, go to school and then fuck around on their phone/computer for hours and then ???????? like no wonder ur depressed and have low confidence in urself. u need to get ur hands on something, feed those dopamine receptors! learn how to play guitar, garden, scrapbook, fucking make model trains. i don’t give a shit, MAKE SOMETHING!!
it feels better than drugs when i finish making a thing—and then show it off or gift it.
and then so people my age say to me ‘well—i can’t draw/paint/knit/etc. like you can. my stuff would be terrible.’ yeah, well duh—a part of developing skill is sucking at something and then practicing it over and over and over again until you suck less. u’ll have a hard time feeling lonely or bored when you can’t stop thinking abt a technique you want to try or something you want to make for someone else. making things has SAVED MY LIFE. it gave me a reason to keep living day after day when i wanted to die.
making things have improved my generational relationships (when i worked for the newspaper i would talk to customers abt jamming recipes or cross-stitch, one of my grandmas always gives me pattern books and tell me abt when she knitted things for mom, my other grandma is giving me a wedding quilt that HER grandma gave her 50 years ago because she knows i will appreciate it). it also got me likeminded friends who also make things.
take a ceramics class! pick up water colors, bake cakes! learn to work on cars! make soap. DO SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T INVOLVE STARING AT A SCREEN.
Peppers are the spicy of the fire, mint is the spicy of the ice, carbonation is the spicy of the air, and vinegar is the spicy of the water.
Ginger is the spicy of the earth.
tumblr really just decided to fuck over sex workers because they’re too incompetent to come up with an actual solution to a problem that they’ve had years to work on

This is worse. Looking at these you can tell they have no significant monetary value. They were confiscated as a fear tactic. Nothing more.
This picture breaks my heart everytime it appears in my dash. It’s a fear tactic, alright but—
The first one in the left corner: It’s a first communion rosary, and it’s not cheap.
The black one in the first line: That’s a widow rosary and it’s old.
The white one in the second line: is a commemoration rosary. It has a miniature picture in the round part. I haven’t seen that since the 70′s.
In the third line, multicolor one: It’s an Anima mundi, I have only seen those in the hands of Rosary ministery’s old ladies. The oldest ones are from the 80′s after Juan Pablo II came to Mexico for the first time. It’s one of the old ones, I know because the crucifixes are different. The third one on the fourth line: Red and gold. The style is old, the metal is dark, that’s a 50′s rosary, probably a quinceañera one (or it’s maybe older, from the 40′s when the brides carried red roses with their offerings).
The fifth one on the fourth line: It’s a quinceañera rosary with Ignatius’s tear. The style is old and in my part of Mexico is orphan girls who used it. At least it was when I was young. The third one of the fifth line: the blue one with the anchor. That one I have only seen in Veracruz and it doesn’t look new. The fifth one on the fifth line: That’s a 90′s wedding rosary. Black and white patterns were popular on that date. The fourth one on the last line: That’s a first communion rosary from the 30′s. It’s delicate and most probably silver. The rest wrench my heart too, the humble everyday rosaries with wooden beads and knots. Those are cheap and bear the wear and tear of their user handling. But those I described are much more.
Those are mother’s rosaries.
Those are not just rosaries. Those are mementos, that’s the proof of their families stories. They are taking from them the only portable things they can carry to feel the connection to their families. It’s not a fear tactic. Call it like by its name. It’s dehumanization.
