who are the fantilli brothers.... and are they worth investigating in an rpf way if you dont already know who they are

they are the gold star of brother [redacted] if that's your kink (but you can guess which word i'm redacting from the content of this answer.) my tag for them is here and there's a lot of content of them in italy together (they are incredibly italian) where luca looks like adam's kept boy. exhibit a:

la has a great little write-up here, but the short version is that there are some celebrini parallels with the less talented older brother and star player younger brother (adam was a third overall pick for cbj, luca went undrafted) except where aiden sort of emerged as mack's keeper/mentor, adam basically revolved around luca like he was the sun himself. they're from toronto and the expectation was that adam would play junior hockey there, but luca (who wasn't talented enough? idk) went to play hockey at some prep school in the US and adam missed him so bad that he also went to go play hockey at that same prep school. (there is family lore about this detailed here; they took adam to visit luca a month or two into the school year and adam JUMPED out of the car to run and hug luca and they were like ohhhh okay it is that serious. um maybe we can get adam into this prep school too? then he basically had to hold a press conference about it (because toronto youth hockey is so toxic lol and they were all mad he left). anyway after that they were inseparable and they played together at the chicago steel, and then both got recruited to play for umich. all you had to do to get adam was recruit luca.

adam only stayed at umich for one year but don't worry they stayed weird about each other even after that. for SOME reason luca kept the name on his jersey as L. FANTILLI even though there was no longer an A. FANTILLI to confuse him with (and if i recall right, there were new jerseys that season so like. this was a very intentional choice):

and i'm sure you're all dying to know what adam thought of this! well don't worry, he made it loud and clear:

sure, yeah. keep the reminder on your back of the brother who always played by your side, who isn't there any more in a physical sense but who never left in a much more important way.

what else. oh on Inside Michigan Hockey Radio Show from 10/3/23 (so october, the very beginning of the first season they played apart in like 4 years), luca had this to say about adam:

Q: “You’re not playing with Adam for a change. Is that easier or harder? That’s a – that’s a tough question.” Luca: “Yeah, I gotta say it’s definitely harder. I mean, he won the Hobey Baker last year so, any time that guy leaves your team it’s definitely a little harder. But I was telling the boys today I was having a ‘missing Adam day’ today. He sent me this TikTok and it said like stuff about your brother and I’m definitely missing him a little bit right now. But it’s the first time I haven’t played with him in a while but I’m just super proud of him and everything he’s doing down there.” Q: “You probably stay in big contact with him though, don’t you.” Luca: “Yeah, we Facetime every day and keep each other updated on how everything’s going. Yeah, it’s nice to see his face on Facetime, which is nice.”

A MISSING ADAM DAY. do you think mack has ever had 'a missing aiden day'?? like be for real with me right now. anyway there's a lot more in the tag (and i cannot emphasize how many more italy pics. like truly these two love nothing more than taking pics of each other in italy.) luca just graduated from umich (you know adam was there) so it'll be interesting to see what he does next with hockey.

When Will looks back on this night in later years, he’ll think it’s fitting that he was on his knees the first time he met Mack. Quinn stared hard out the windshield, counting crushed Bud cans in the ditch, counting Jack’s easy, relaxed breaths beside him. Sometimes, he envied how simple this all seemed for him – how he didn’t have the same kind of turmoil whirling around inside his head as Quinn did. To tell the truth, it was like this: twenty minutes in a car with the guy, and Quinn was jumping out of his skin to kiss him. Still.

ok so the biggest thing that’s been percolating in my head today is like. how to connect the dots of the differences in Luke’s relationships w/his brothers vs their relationship w/each other into a coherent picture of the dynamic, and what that means for Him and what the fuck his deal is. and the thing that I keep coming back to smthn I realized last night at some point, which is that everyone in their family talks about Luke like he’s not only the best of them, but specifically the platonic ideal of what jack and quinn could’ve/wanted to be??? and the thing about it is that’s not a dynamic or an expectation that would’ve started to hit until, from the way they talk about it, around the time he was like 14/15 - AKA when Quinn was off to college and Jack was starting to enact his boyking rule of the ntdp.

this timing is kinda key to me bc it means that a) the weight of those expectations hadn’t really come to bear yet (Jack isn’t a 1oa yet, Quinn isn’t the best defenseman in the league and nobody’s expecting him to be) and b) the point where he might have had the chance to push back against following in his brothers footsteps is also the point where he probably really started to feel their absence for the first time. and so in my beautiful rpf mind palace this is where the independence/clinginess sets in: he has his parents attention, he’s stepping into the public attention/recognition q+j had to fight a little more for, but what Luke really wants and is actually struggling to get is his brothers! who are specifically looking to him to be what they were but better. and so this is where I think we get the shift from him having to play goalie/matching Halloween costumes for just q+j to Luke mirroring them in every major life decision. bc when he’s following their footsteps he knows it will lead to greatness, and the closer he follows the better he fills the role that gets their love and praise and affection.

now from jack and Quinn’s side I do really think it’s just a thing where like, protecting someone and believing in them to the degree that they do w/luke necessarily creates some distance??? they could be a united front for Luke in a way that Luke just kind of hasn’t had the chance to do for either of them in a similar manner. but they want him in the fold - I truly from the bottom of my heart believe they would’ve gotten him an air mattress in their stupid little olympic dorm if that’s what it took to have him playing with them. Quinn wants to compete w/him and he wants to watch Luke surpass him and he wants Luke to never for a single moment doubt himself or his place as a player+his brother, and right now that means trying to give Luke the space to build a semi-independent career. but in the long term? bro they wanna fucking merge into a single inseparable entity. I think it’s easy to forget that the relative distance between Luke and his brothers is and always has been an insane level of closeness for ANYONE else, and the only reason it’s noticeable at all is bc of just how intertwined they are. the default for all of them is for everything to be shared and so every instance in which something Isn’t stands out like a sore thumb.

now this is the point where my thoughts just start endlessly spilling out in a million incoherent directions; it’s just an endless slideshow of Jack copying the playbook of how Quinn took care of him (effusive unyielding faith, cooking for them all in the summers, picking fights on the ice) to take care of Luke, and Luke leaning into being the baby and demanding their attention bc he has to ask for it but he knows the answer will always be yes no matter how annoying he is (the endless yapping and wrestling in the chel cover video, letting Jack tug him around wherever he wants), and all the ways they find to make sure he’s never truly left out (all 3 numbers in the garage that his name isn’t on the lease for, Luke throwing that party before the Olympics), and Luke just always always always showing the signs of somebody who is loved so much and so well that he’s never had to hide, and on and fucking on until I lose it forever!!!!!
