Honestly āAre Prisons Absolete?ā By Angela Davis should be entry level reading to call yourself any sort of leftist or anarchist or whatever. Itās literally under 100 pages and written in v accessible, colloquial language.
And honestly, if you havenāt read it you arenāt allowed to add comments to my prison abolition posts lol
Able-bodied people, this is what your world is like. In a new situation it's also usually impossible to even know an alternate route, so the options are like enduring the painful and dangerous illegal barriers or...going home. And for the people suggesting the op report these things- that's a great suggestion but you should also be aware of how often businesses, governments, schools flat out ignore concerns like this.
If it troubles you, I highly suggest making your own complaints every time you see something like this.
Do not shop at businesses that break the law. Do not let governments who deny disabled rights go unchallenged. Don't do nothing when your world is dangerous to us.
why is "mummies are so rare bc the british ate them" always presented as like a morbid fun fact and not an example of heinous racism and dehumanization of people of colour to the point of cannibalism. a little bit odd if im honest.
cant stop thinking abt ursula k. le guinās essay abt the carrier bag theoryā¦.. sheās like, maybe the first human tool was not a weapon, but rather something that holds, a bag, a pouch, a vessel, something for gathering and storing and sharing. letās shift the narrative of humanity from that of violence to that of safekeeping. and iām like
and THEN sheās like, a novel is also a carrier bag. thereās the Heroās story, sure, but thereās room enough in fiction for every experience, for every little thing, and itās that other story, the life story, that she seeksā¦ā¦. o|-<
one of the first plants we ever started growing on purpose, the bottle gourd, was grown exclusively because it could be filled with water or other things and carried. pottery is actually older than domesticated gourds, and itās likely that baskets are even older than that, but itās just really nuts to me that the early neolithic farmers devoted entire fields just to growing not food but completely inedible bottles. and then those people took their bottles with them everywhere, including when they left Africa, and today they are on every continent. and we donāt even really use them anymore, but we still grow them just for decoration, because theyāre shaped like something we carried for thousands of years and we cannot put them down.
The bankroller of the Gaza Genocide, Joe Biden, has tested positive for COVID-19. Here are a few Palestinians you can support in celebration of his misery.
Wafaa @wafa-nahll: A grandmother working tirelessly across three platforms (Instagram, Tiktok, Tumblr) to raise money for her family. Her last tumblr account was shadowbanned. Her goal is ā¬50k.
@journalsforpalestine is running a raffle for Wafaa.
Siraj @siraj2024: A father of three young children who lost their home and now have to live in what he describes as a "convection oven". His family has narrowly survived two massacres in the past week. Help them rebuild their home. His campaign has been moving at a glacial pace recently. His short term goal is $10K USD, he ultimately needs $60k USD.
Shahed @shahednhall: A college student and photographer. She lost her friend and their entire family, and her sister, like many Gazan children, has contracted hepatitis. Her urgent short term goal is $30k USD and she is far from it.
@journalsforpalestine is running a raffle for Shahed.
Khaled @khaled_1995__b on Instagram: A young father who has experienced unimaginable tragedy over the past several months. He and his pregnant wife left to Egypt for Mecca shortly before the Oct 7. After giving birth to their baby, Kamal, she passed away. Now, their two year old son, Majd, along with his grandmother and the rest of their family, are stuck in North Gaza. Majd is facing malnutrition. Their goal is $35k USD.
Motasem @motasem1256 on Instagram: A young father from North Gaza whose son was born in the genocide. Every day he updates his followers on new destruction and misery he encounters. He frequently posts about wanting to die. His goal is currently $20k USD but will likely increase as things change.

sorry for being passionate about how normalized the ability to stand is and no one talks about n how painful it is and it makes me see red sorry itās just so pointless . On the Same Planet but in Different Worlds: Gazans are Humans Too!
Allow me to point out some of the blessings that people, unlike those in the strange scary world of Gaza, are inclined to take for granted and rarely do they reflect on:
Plenty of food, vegetables, and fruits.
Electricity 24/7.
Drinkable water 24/7.
No horrifying sounds of explosions, no head-splitting buzzing of Israeli drones in their sky, and no scary shaking of their houses because of the continuous bombardment.
No fear of ending up buried under the rubble of their cozy beautiful houses.
No scary thoughts about getting killed in an airstrike before drifting off at night.
Access to quality education for them and their children.
A plea from one family to another: kindly help me get my family to a safe place before I lose them forever. The situation in Gaza only moves from bad to worse. My family is stranded in the most hellish conditions ever, so I am dedicating to helping them evacuate to Egypt as soon as possible.
Join me in securing a dignified safe life for my family and a prosperous future for the children who have been deprived of education for a year.
Even worse, it seems they won't receive any education for another year at least as the ravaging cruel war continues and most Schools have been viciously and devilishly destroyed. Your support is a lifeline for my family and a chance for a better future for them. It is just too early for them to depart to heaven!
Please donate, reblog, and share.

People say: "Family always comes First," and to that, I say: "Amen!".⦠Mahmoud Khalaf needs your support for Death chases my family in Gaza;
hes going to peacefully drop out and spend the rest of his life getting the best healthcare, not facing any repercussion for a genocide. hes going to be replaced by another rich yankee who would do what he did
Iām sat drunk in the beer garden of a rock bar and some chick is happily explaining that āSo Jonathan Harker goes to this castle in Transylvania and he doesnāt know heās in Dracula, rightā to a guy who seems totally enthralled and I wish them nothing but the best
idk man. i just think itd be really cool if sign language classes were mandatory throughout primary school. yeah because it would make communication with deaf kids and autistic/nonverbal kids much easier. and those kids would be accessible to the others so they could make friends and have healthy relationships. yeah. and kids would eat that shit up man. like their own little secret language? they love that.
It's pretty clear, looking at the situation in many parts of the world, that Western liberal capitalist government as we have known it for the last several decades is collapsing, that its contradictions are coming to the fore and people no longer have faith or interest in it as a provider of safety, stability or survival.
This is inevitable, and as it collapses it can go one of two ways: either it reaches its natural endpoint in fascism, or it is swept away in revolution. As we are seeing, from the US to Europe to Aotearoa, only one of those forces is currently ready to take power. While there are many existing communist parties, in my experience most of them seem to focus their efforts - if indeed they do anything - on attracting existing communists who either aren't organised or organise with their rivals, which I think is a far less helpful task than simply making more communists.
To that end, I - with proof-reading and advice from the dependable @/mesetacadre - have tried to edit Engels' foundational Principles of Communism into a form easier for a new reader to engage with in the 21st century, as I still believe it is the ideal starting point, but it must be said that with a great deal of propaganda telling us that communism fell 30 years ago it doesn't help us seem especially relevant if we recommend a document that refers to 1847 as the present day.
I encourage all and any to read through it, especially anyone who defines themselves as a nonspecific "leftist" or who still trust the established political systems to liberate us. Read, share, distribute however you wish, if it brings just one person to accept communism it will have done its job.
Freidrich Engels' 1847 document Principles of Communism, edited in modern plain English for new readers in 2024.
