Happy Moon Landing Day (July 20, 1969). It does move a little, sometimes.
Hey. Why isnât the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isnât that fucked up? Does anyone else think thatâs absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! Thatâs a big deal! Iâve never thought about it before but now that I have, itâs ridiculous to me that thatâs not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why donât we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
Itâs July 20th. Thatâs the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. Iâm ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and Iâm going to have a goddamn potluck. Youâre all invited.
Hey. Hey. Tumblr. Ides of March ppl. We can do this
Hell yeah moon holiday
Ooh coming up we should celebrate
PITCH: We call it Moon Day, and then every 7 years when it falls on a Monday, that's an even BIGGER deal and we call that Moon Day Monday and go absolutely apeshit about it (the next Moon Day Monday is in 2026 so we have a couple trial runs first)
HAPPY MOON MO[O]NDAY!!!
its so weird to me that cis people will dislike their name so ardently and yet. not change it. you guys know thatâs an option, right. no one can make you keep the shit name your mom gave you. no, not even her.
One of my friends in undergrad changed his name because he didnât want to bear the name of his abusive and absent father. Itâs been years since he did it, and he still says that it was the single best decision of his life.
One of my friends in high school changed his named as soon as he turned 18, so that the ethnic name his family gave him was finally the name reflected on all of his paperwork. He told me that he understood why his parents had given him an âEnglishâ name, but that he felt that if he needed to assimilate in order to succeed, then that was a type of success that he didnât want.
When I was on my way home from the courthouse after changing my own name, I got into a conversation with my rideshare driver, who was extremely interested once I told him what I was in court for, and wanted to know how Iâd done it, how much it cost, was it difficult, etc. It turned out that his girlfriend had chosen the name âYo-yoâ when she came to the United States, unaware of how rare that was as a name, and that she was frequently made fun of because of it. Neither one of them had realized that a name change was so easy, and he told me he was excited to let her know that she had options.
There was an intern at a summer job I had once, who changed her name to be the same name, but a different spelling. She said that she had no idea why her parents had spelled her name so oddly to begin with, and suspected that it was just an honest mistake either by them or by some nurse, but it had been a headache for her entire life, and it was a huge relief to not need to be correcting peopleâs spelling on important documents anymore.
One of my exes legally changed his name to have an exclamation point, because he liked to sign his name with an exclamation point.
You can always change your name if you donât like it. You always have that option. It doesnât matter why â it can be conformist or anti-assimilationist, serious or silly, a minor change or a major change. Your name is yours, and you have every right to change it to be whatever you want.
meows loud as fuck shattering all glass within 3 miles no survivors
just rewatched Jupiter Ascending and sorry not sorry that movie holds up actually. "technically speaking I'm an alien. and from the perspective of immigration, an illegal one" "luckily for you a woman owns this car /slaps a pad from the glove compartment on a bleeding wound/", harvesting eggs vs harvesting people for live-forever juice as a metaphor for capitalist exploitation, "the human beings on your planet are merely a resource waiting to be converted into capital." the aesthetic, the fashion, the CGI, the "I love dogs, I've always loved dogs." sean bean is there. literally this movie could not go harder.
I don't care what others think, I unironically loved Eddie Redmayne's acting. Was it over the top? Yes. Was it unique? Also yes.
I wanted to know more about the Abrasax family and the intergalactic politics. Honestly this movie should have been a TV series.
If Eddie Redmayne ever dies in a plane crash, they'll be able to identify his remains by matching his teeth to the bite marks he left in this movie's scenery.
Shane also needs to interact with other gay men just to understand how truly lucky he is. He needs to hear someone go off about going on Grindr to find a top for the night and then finding out that all of the guys who have the 'Hung' tag on their profile are packing like five and a half inches at MOST and then Shane has to be like "Oh that. Yeah that sounds rough." Meanwhile he lost his anal virginity to a knockout with model looks who works out for a living and started their relationship by jerking his enormous hog at him in a communal shower which has always been one of Shane's top five fantasies. And he's literally never had to be on The Apps because he's the bottom of all time actually and the DomTop with the enormous dick imprinted on him like a fucking duckling the first time Shane came untouched under him which was, I cannot stress this enough, when he LOST HIS VIRGINITY.
Like shut the fuck up Shane Hollander how does it feel to be the chosen one. He has to confront all of this because he needs to know that he has, once again, won at life in every meaningful way. And then he can sit there like :] while that sad bottom over there bemoans the Grindr biome.

Happy Moon Landing Eve! Remember to leave out milk and cookies for Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong, and donât let Michael Collins convince you to prank NASA!
If Tumblr is still here next July 19th, I fully expect this post to obliterate my activity feed.
youâre not hopeless youâre just really really tired and in desperate need of a break and im shaking you by the shoulders and telling you that all is not hopeless but you do need to rest
yes, you are disabled "enough." your condition causing difficulty in your life means you are disabled. there's no point you have to get to where it's "bad enough" to say that you're disabled. you deserve the help, resources, and accommodations that will make your life easier. you won't be stealing from anyone who needs it, because you need it, too.

In case anyone hasn't heard, the cyclospora outbreak affecting tons of people in the US right now is coming from Taylor Farms produce. Best to stay away from bagged lettuce and prepared salads completely right now, but especially the ones mentioned in the screenshot:
Taylor Farms Earthbound Farms Little Salad Bar (Aldi) Marketside (Walmart) Kroger House Brand Target private label greens Costco salads and greens etc Trader Joe's chopped salad kits and fresh produce Fast food: McDonalds, Taco Bell, (Yum! Brands), Chipotle, Subway, Pizza Hut, KFC, Olive Garden, Top Golf, Red Lobster, Burger King, etc.
This is not the first time I've heard about a Taylor Farms foodborne illness outbreak. I stopped eating their salads after reading a description of the conditions in their facilities. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything.
We need a fully funded and staffed FDA, and regulations with teeth - and that's exactly what we don't have under Trump. To make things worse, the CDC is no longer tracking these outbreaks. We're on our own.
excuse me, i'm borrowing a work laptop and there's a wall to stop me from going to gaming sites. do you or anyone else have any suggestions to bypass the wall?
I would strongly recommend not trying to get around blocking rules on your work laptop because your work is almost certainly logging what happens on the laptop; if they check those logs at the very least you will no longer be allowed to borrow the laptop, and possibly you won't continue to have a work to borrow a laptop from.
Also, depending on how huge a deal anyone wants to make of this, it may be actually illegal to do this on someone else's computer (and even if they lent it to you, that is their computer, and what you are discussing is sometimes described as "unauthorized access" and is a no-shit crime; people also don't think that logging into an ex's email that they had the password to is a crime - it is. Don't do this shit)
You can do whatever you want on your own computer and your own network. If you are on somebody else's computer you have to follow their rules. This is annoying, but unless you are certain that you are good enough to do this in a way that will be completely undetectable to your employer, you shouldn't do this.
If you work someplace that provides you a computer for work, you should ONLY use that computer for work. Assume that your boss can see everything that you do on that work computer and act accordingly.
Like, just as a very normal example, one of the things we frequently get requests for at work is a report of how often someone is logging in to their profile and how much time they spend logged in to various work-related programs. This is information that our clients sometimes use to build cases for termination.
Do not torrent from your work computer, and yes I would delete everything that you've got on there. Stop doing anything non work-related now, remove anything you've installed or downloaded that is non work-related.
I'm torn about whether you should tell your supervisor or just not say anything until it's brought up. It's going to depend a lot on how on-it your company is. If your supervisor is cool and your company is chill, you might want to approach the company and say "hey, I did something thoughtless and I was treating the company computer like a personal device for a little while before I had a lightbulb moment and realized my mistake then deleted my personal information from the machine" and see what happens. If your company is not chill, remove everything and if anyone ever confronts you about this don't lie and say you didn't do anything - they've got logs - but say "I'm sorry, I was treating the work computer like a personal machine before I realized how inappropriate that was and stopped using it in that way; I removed my personal information on X date and have not used it that way since, my apologies."
Companies don't just track your activities on work machines because they want to know what you're doing, they do it because it can be a big security risk; if you've been torrenting on the work computer and you're not REALLY REALLY REALLY sure what you're doing, you can end up getting the machine compromised and then introducing a compromised machine into your work's network and infecting other machines or you can end up with a keylogger vacuuming up sensitive client data.
If there is ANY RISK WHATSOEVER that you've ended up with any kind of malware/virus/keylogger, you have to bring it up with work IT. Frame it as a thoughtless mistake and tell them you're approaching them proactively because you don't want to risk introducing vulnerabilities to the environment or put company data at risk. Don't tell them about any crimes you were committing (torrenting copyrighted material is a crime) but let them know that there may be malicious software on the device and it should be imaged.
You can have ingenuity when you understand what event logs are.
Just out of law school, I worked doing something called E-Discovery. E-discovery is what happens when someone is getting sued and computer records are requested during the discovery phase.
I and dozens of other attorneys would spend the day sifting by through emails, pdfs, event logs, browser histories, word docs, excel sheets, etc. looking for information relative to the case to hand over to the other party.
But sometimes, because they were already paying for our time, our clients would ask us to flag⊠interesting⊠documents that weâd find. Things that looked suspicious or illegal and might be important to know about that werenât actually relevant to the case. They could do that because itâs their own documents we were going through or documents they had permission to go through.
Let me tell you, the amount of affairs alone you find on peopleâs work emails is insane. Casual discussions of bribes, embezzlement, etc. And a whole lot of private health information and porn use. And thatâs not even touching the time we had an actual order from the FBI to let them know if we found CP while looking through documents in our corporate civil case that had nothing to do with pedophilia. Because the company our client was suing shared a server with a different company that was being investigated for that.
Basically: there is no such thing as privacy on a work computer. It logs every thing you do. And your bosses can access it any time they want. Because itâs their computer, not yours. And even if they donât know how to extract that info or have time to sort it themselves, there are many very skilled professionals that do.
DO NOT USE YOUR WORK COMPUTER FOR PRIVATE THINGS!
don't do these things on a work-provided phone or on a personal device hooked to the company wifi either
No one tells you that one day you will get older and look around and notice that 95% of ppl who own a dog should not own a dog
idk man not to sound like a cartoon hippie but if your entirrrrre blog and dash is about how the world sucks and everyones bigoted i think you are going to give yorself brain worms
"ah but all of this is important and true and if i dont reblog all of this important stuff waga baga THE WORMS! THATS WORMS! THE BRAIN WORMS!
i do not think you are doing activism chief i think what you are doing is sitting in your room flagellating yourself expecting something to happen
itâs just hard not to think about the fact that in 1915, JRR Tolkien went to war not with but certainly in the same army and many of the same battles as his 3 best school friends, all nicely upper class young men who had never known much loss, and only he and one other came back alive - and a couple decades later, he wrote a book in which 3 nicely upper class young men (and one very excellent gardener) who have never known much loss go to war together, or at least they start out together, and they all come home alive. (Though one cannot bear it, and does not stay.)
What more it wasnât just losing his friends, he was a commanding officer of a battalion of working class men. All farmers and miners from the same area of Lancashire. He felt affinity for them, but wasnât allowed to socialize between the ranks due to military protocol and he hated it.Â
"The most improper job of any man ⊠is bossing other men. Not one in a million is fit for it, and least of all those who seek the opportunity.â
I donât think it was even 6 months later that he contracted trench fever and was sent home.Â
His entire command was wiped out in one charge shortly after, the majority of a whole countrysideâs youths slaughtered while he survived. Youths who were brave and steadfast, but thought of as lesser than their superior officers while still being the ones carrying the actual battle. Youths who deserved fellowship, respect, and above all to go home and dance with their own Rosie.
âMy Sam Gamgee is indeed a reflection of the English soldier, of the privates and batmen I knew in the 1914 war, and recognised as so far superior to myselfâ.Â
TRIES NOT TO CRY
There is a reason Frodo, who represents the English gentry, in the end falls and is caught by Samwise, who represents the common man.
But there is a soldier in Lord of the Rings who does not come back, and I donât mean Boromir.
I mean the being who was a common hobbit, but who became corrupted by darkness and poison, whoâs face is described in ways reminiscent of a gas mask.
The soldier who doesnât come home, who is poisoned by gas and stress and insanity.
Is Gollum.
The Lord of the Rings repeatedly stresses the horrors of war. Eowynâs entire arc is about the truth of warfare versus the way itâs glorified. She starts out glorifying war and combat and soldiers, even when her own brother is telling her war sucks and is terrible. And then in the end, she sees first hand what war does to people.
Aragornâs entire arc isnât to be the steadfast hero saving the day, itâs to hold the line in terror and horror and blood while the overlooked folk are the people who save the world. And then, what makes him a king, is not his skill in battle, but his healing hands.
Which then ties into both Eowyn and Faramirâs arcs. Eowyn goes into healing not because sheâs a weak and meek woman, but because war is horrible and saving lives is better than taking them. Aragorn is glorified within the text for his healing, and so is Eowyn.
Also, tying into the common man thing, in the movies itâs Faramir but in the books itâs SAMWISE who questions what brings a man so far from home to fight in a war and if he is really so different.
LOTR is anti-war propaganda.
And this is why I donât get people who find Eowynâs fate to be anti-feminist. She doesnât become a healer because sheâs a woman, she does because itâs the right thing to do. Both her and Faramirâs futures are to renew the world. Thatâs a good thing.
i wish we were able to talk about women's rights without someone mentioning how much they do or don't want to have sex with them. i don't care if you're a lesbian Stop finding worth in women purely from their perceived attractiveness
"I think women should not be expected to shave for societal respect / to avoid discrimination" "yeahđ€€ i love bush" ok well that's not what we're talking about is it.
i hate how many posts about trans women deserving respect always devolve into "I love girldick" or "trans rights but I don't want to date a trans person" because that's entirely unrelated to the topic at hand. you should not respond to feminism with "YESSS I loveeee you because I see you as nothing but a sex object" you people sound like other men I get stuck talking with that end up saying "free the nipple so I can see boobies in public" and thinking they're feminists. why can't we just respect women regardless of your attraction to them or not. why does it need to be brought up in every conversation regarding their rights
