If you are in the United States and are a renter (or want the renters you know to have stable housing costs), please ask your members of Congress to co-sponsor the End Rent Fixing Act. (Among other things, the algorithms used by RealPage, Resman, TurboTenant et al are an attempt to evade EXISTING laws prohibiting rent fixing.)
From Color of Change's petition:
U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (OR) and Peter Welch (VT), along with Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT), introduced the End Rent Fixing Act to make it unlawful for rental property owners to use algorithms that would coordinate rental housing prices. Color Of Change proudly endorses this critical piece of legislationâand we need you to add your voice to make sure it passes! At a time when Black families are struggling with the affordability of housing, it is unacceptable that companies like RealPage, Resman, TurboTenant, and others are taking advantage of our communities. Sign on to demand Congress pass the End Rent Fixing Act!
