My contribution to the TAD Secret Dear Heart Exchange. Happy ten years of Love Run, and here's to the music yet to come!
Rest in peace to the incredible Anthony Stewart Head (20th February 1954 - 1st June 2026)
RUPERT GILES in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (1997-2003)
in happier pride news i actually found this deeply heartwarming
that's solidarity baybeeee
Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”

"Every year he forgot. Well, no. He never forgot. He just put the memories away, like old silverware that you didn’t want to tarnish. And every year they came back, sharp and sparkling, and stabbed him in the heart."
GNU Sir Terry, I wouldn't be the man I am today without your influence; from you I learned that evil begins when you treat people like things; that sure it's important that you speak from them as have no voice but that there's also room in there for grasp for them as can't bend, reach for them as can't stretch, wipe for them as can't twist; that saying somone should do something isn't much good unless you follow it up with and that somone will be me; that there aren't really good guys and bad guys, that the enemy wasn't men, or women, or the old, or even the dead. It was just bleedin' stupid people, who came in all varieties. And no one had the right to be stupid; that all things strive, and that every moment of every day we can choose to be the place where the falling angle meets the rising ape

Hello! I saw in one of your tags that you compiled a list of Sea Patrol whump 👀 I just started the show and I would love to see your list!
YAY I have been waiting my whole life for this :D It's quite a long list and riddled with spoilers, so I'll put it under the cut for you (: Also, I'm not super into (most) lady whump so I did leave that off, but there is a little bit of that throughout the show as well if that's your jam!
Also, just for funsies, I am gonna highlight my favorite ones for you <3
I didn't feel great about the Theo storyline anyway, but framing it as Buck feeling left out that all his friends have kids so he goes and gets one of his own????
I now pronounce you husbands for life
There you have it, a happy and fluffy wedding pic!
Happy Destiel anniversary!
some years ago, i think three? i talked here about a project in my town i was trying to start. a drop-in for youth, to make them less isolated, give them something to do, a welcoming place to hang out with their friends, and hopefully reduce the amount of teen drug addiction. i put posters on the walls to gather support, connected with the YMCA in my area, it looked like was really gonna get this idea off the ground.
no one signed my petition. i had one meeting with the YMCA and then they never got back to me.
all progress seemed to slow, and nothing ever came of my plan for the rest of the time i was living there. i remember weeping on the stairs because i wanted so badly to leave my town behind with something that would help the kids who are still stuck there, and it fell apart.
this summer, i couldn't find an apartment in my new city in time, so i had to return home for 4 months while college was off. i found out that in my absence, someone with more resources, connections and funding had remembered my project, and she picked up the pieces i'd left behind and tried again.
she succeeded. there is now a drop-in youth program at the local health centre in my hometown.
it finally worked. it really, really worked. thank you, candace. 🌱
I remember that! I'm so glad it worked out, eventually. It's worth it to try even if we fail, and sometimes that failure isn't even permanent. Congratulations on what you inspired!
Ahh that must have felt amazing!! Reminded me of the lyrics of Fixer Upper by Grace Petrie:
"Lace your boots and find the shoots Still struggling through the rotted roots The saplings laid by other folks we will turn into mighty oaks The battle scars, the broken parts, of dreams who outlasted those hearts Everything you dream is possible, it's waiting to be made So my comrade, come grab a spade."
Joey Batey signing in Newcastle last night, we did not get Madeleine but instead we got his big sister asking the questions!!! Absolutely adorable. At the start of the audience Q&A she was like "Please make it a question. I realise that I was rambling a lot, I had to keep telling myself the same thing." I have to listen to the audiobook now because apparently he sings the selkat songs!! Also he went full Tolkien and made whole languages and myths that he didn't even use, which surprises me not at all
They did the names on postits thing for the signing, so I had to explain that the reason I didn't want my name is because I'd probably be donating the book to a prison through Borderline later, thankfully he loved that idea.
My friend got the welly boots card I made for her signed, which confused things because I guess when people bring cards they are usually for him, but she was like no! Mine! 😆
resources for staying safe online
always important, but i feel like especially recently. particularly stuff that’s a bit more than just the usual “don’t post personal info”

i saw someone say nobody needs to know what a .txt file is anymore. what the fuck is the world coming to
unironically i think we need to bring back computer labs because APPARENTLY some people WERENT taught basic computer literacy and internet safety in school
things about computers/the internet i think kids should be formally taught in schools because theyre important to know and the amount of soon to be grown adults i know who know NOTHING about any of these is quite frankly almost all of them (and resources to learn if you dont know these things, because its never to late to get better with computers)
how to troubleshoot by yourself when you have a technical problem
what common file types are
some very basics on how to use ""developer tools"" on your computer (because i cant think of a better way to refer to them) like task manager and command prompt (and their mac equivalents, terminal and activity monitor ofc)
how to read and understand a privacy policy and what your personal data is, as well as what it being collected actually means and steps you can take to keep it private
how to understand terms of service (hey. if you have trouble with reading legalese and worry about being able to understand these policies anyways, here's a site that gives basic summaries of privacy policies and ToS)
what a cookie actually is
internet privacy and your digital footprint!! seriously i dont know why we stopped teaching people that they shouldnt be putting their entire real identity online in a world where your online actions can ruin you irl
basic safety measures like antivirus software (and why you should use it or if the built in one on windows or mac is enough for you) and backing up your computer (also a mac guide)
common keyboard shortcuts (and on mac)
as an additional note: things i think everyone should know on computers and the internet but schools may bit hesitant to teach about for whatever moral/legal standards schools pretend to operate on
vpns and adblockers! (btw for most of these where you can pay for things im purposefully not recommending any specific software but seriously just use ublock origin for an adblocker)
how to not get a virus while pirating something
what a temporary email is and when to use one
red flags that you shouldn't trust a website (and how to quickly check the security of a site)
what javascript on a website does and how to disable it to get around paywalls
ok one last addition! if you want to take it one level higher, i think learning the very basics of at least one programming language is good for people. it makes computers less scary and it makes you feel very cool, and a lot of people get discouraged about it because it seems overly complicated and hard to learn outside a formal classroom setting, so heres some resources for learning the very basics of python (because i consider it the easiest language to learn and knowing one language will make it easier to learn others)
an online compiler so you dont need to download anything or worry about running code directly on your computer if that makes you nervous
a basic video guide to introduce you to python and walk you through beginner steps
a guide to some syntax and commands you should know (this was literally my lifeline in my first CS class)
some performance tasks to give you things to code to practice and assess yourself
"She was broken. You understand that? Parker was broken."
