  His head is throbbing; a relentless, pounding ache in his skull, just behind his eyes. When he first awoke, the first thing to greet him was the unfeeling, blinding beams of the sun shining in his eyes, and the scorching heat of the sand beneath him. He instinctively shields his eyes to take care of the former; the latter, however, there’s little to be done. All he has to him are these rags for clothes, torn in several places; he cannot even stand to get away from the ground burning him, currently deprived of any proper footwear.

  Try as he might, he cannot recall where he is, or how he got there in such a sorry state. All that he gets in return every time his mind tries to pull up the memory is fog. And his head hurts far too much to try for long.

  The light is soon blocked out by a shadow, causing the hedgehog’s ear to flicker before removing his arm just enough to peer over it. The built form of the echidna pirate before him is nearly silhouetted, and yet he’s as clear as the sky is blue. Clearly someone whose presence was not one to be easily overlooked.

biography:

mustang was originally a seahorse living in the east river along with their friends, goldfin and lee, notably in an area that contained a massive oyster with a pearl, which the crew deemed a sign of safety for their home and friends. however, when superfly's mutation ray landed in their ocean, the mutagen within it caused mustang and the others to mutate, and, consequently, become feared and rejected by the rest of their family and friends. furthermore, shortly after they fled to the surface, the pearl was taken from the river. displaced, self-loathing and desperate to return home, the three devised a plan to steal back the pearl.

mustang's external attitude is as tough as their abnormally resilient skin; they are stern, gruff, and overall doesn't come off as the cuddliest guy. however, they have a maternal side to them, as it was their wish to have children before their mutation wrecked that plan, and is thus prone to fretting over others significantly younger than them -- even if said younger individual is some opponent that they're fighting. additionally, despite acting hardened, they are far from emotionally constipated, and are plenty open with expressing themself to others.

A gentle hum of agreement, with the slightest upturn of the corner of his mouth, amused by the other’s mention of his siblings. They understand the feeling too well, being around others that seem so much higher energy than themself. They don’t necessarily dislike it, but they do find themself craving adequate alone time after enough time surrounded by it. And, sometimes, the best way to achieve that was to find the  ( seemingly rare )  moments when all others were asleep.
