“And what’s the criteria?” Clint asked curiously, although he was sure that it was going to be some boring science answer that he didn’t understand. That’s how it usually went with Susan, as much as he adored her. He laughed a bit at her next words as he held his hands up in self defense and shook his head. “Okay! But you’re you! Imagine me settling down with kids. Bleh. Me! Absolutely not. But you’d be my favorite Susan if you did.”
"It’s ever changing, just like the multiverse. I couldn’t possibly say.” A true copout answer if there ever was one. She smiles at his antics. “Maybe back when you and Bobbi were married. There was that one wave of everyone getting married and having kids. It obviously didn’t last.” Sue and Reed are still married, as are Jean and Scott. Jan and Hank called it quits even before he died. “Of course you’re my favorite Barton, Clint. You’ve got the home field advantage.”

“I think I’d prefer to leave that kinda stuff up to you scientists.” Jake shrugged slightly, feeling on edge by the way the conversation shifted. He got the feeling she knew something he didn’t, but he wasn’t going to push. “That’s what you and your family do, right? Study the multiverse?
"It really is beautiful.” Her voice is wistful. “Overwhelming, but beautiful as well.” You’d could literally travel it for all eternity and never reach the end. While that might scare some people, it thrills Susan. She loves possibility. “More or less. We helped rebuild it for a while with my sons former powers. We traveled for a year or so. Reed — my husband — doesn’t like to be put into the box of multiverse specialist exclusively, but I don’t mind it as much.”

“I know who you’re talking about.” Susan snaps her fingers. “Unfortunately, he’s not the one that’s close with myself and my family. Different reality.”

“Hm.” He paused, giving her a glance over before continuing. “There are so many teams, you cannot blame me for not seeing the distinction right away. Why is it that you’re here, then?”
“Of course not.” Most know who the Fantastic Four are, but Susan’s not going to get into it with an Omega level mutant. Time Magazine dubbed them America’s (Real!) First Family a few years back. Reed had found it incredibly ridiculous, but they had sat for the photo anyway. “To speak with Charles Xavier. It’s regarding my husband, Reed Richards.”

As much as Marc really didn’t want bring any of it up, he knew he needed to suck it up and push through his own shit. He was one of the lucky ones after all, right? That garbage man wasn’t still living in his head like some people. “I’m not sure how many specifics I can pry out of Khonshu for you, but I can try. All I know is that me and my wife weren’t touched by that spell.”
“While I’m happy for you both, I can imagine that others may be resentful. However you can help is greatly appreciated. By trade, I’m a scientist. I don’t deal with gods or magic.” It’s entered her life, of course, but it’s not Susan’s specialty. “Thank you, Marc.”

“Good, so I don’t have to catch you up on how catastrophic this is.” Stephen sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose for a moment before lowering his hand. “The spell that Wanda and Wiccan performed was unstable. It only partially reverted everyone back to who they were before S.H.I.E.L.D. warped them.”
“Now they’re stuck in the middle.” Susan deduces. “Got it. That’s what we feared. Spells are usually reversible. Is this one not? It wouldn’t be ideal to reset them back to their Pleasant Hill selves, but it could cause less confusion until we find a way around this.”

“Hill’s been taken care of.” When Daisy realized how final that sounded, she raised her eyebrows and quickly backtracked. “She’s not dead, though. Just on a mandatory medical leave.”
“That’s a relief.” The Fantastic Four hadn’t stepped in and helped with Pleasant Hill. They had intended to only to be called into the Negative Zone at the last minute. “I’d say I’m glad to see things worked out, but it doesn’t look like they have. Not entirely, at least.”

“I am not here to listen to your whining. The Avengers must deal with the consequences of their own actions in Pleasant Hill. I want no part of it.”
“You may have misunderstood me. The Fantastic Four aren’t the Avengers. I’m here without any connection to them.”

“I usually do, your majesty.” It’s a side effect of her perpetually spinning brain. “The Inhumans and the Fantastic Four go way back. I wanted to come personally and see how you’re all handling the recent news.”

“There is effort involved in seeing possible futures. It requires concentration. If you assumed that it comes easily or freely, that’s your own fault.”
Susan deals with probability. It was her primary focus before she fell into multiversal theory. What Destiny does, however, is different. She sees the probabilities that Susan can chart out. It’s a power Susan isn’t sure she wants. It would make her work easier, but at what cost? “I’m sorry, Destiny. I didn’t mean to imply otherwise. I didn’t come to start any fights.”

An orange portal leading to the Sanctum dissipated behind Stephen as he turned around and faced the person in front of him. “This better be important. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but reality is still falling apart.” The bags that had plagued his eyes for the past few months were gone now, which was an improvement, but things were far from fine.
“Considering all the work my family does with reality and the multiverse, I think it’d be impossible for us to not have heard.” It’s a disappointment, to say the least. “What happened? What can we do to fix this? Reed’s running tests at the Baxter Building.”

“No, I’m not talkin’ about that.” The last word was so pronounced with his accent that he may as well have said it with a ‘d’. And by that, Marc meant Pleasant Hill. Thankfully he’d avoided the mandatory evaluations thus far, and it would stay that way. There was no way in hell he was sitting in front of a therapist. “Anything else on your mind? Literally anything else.”
“You’re going to have to forgive me. I need to know, Marc. My family is doing everything they can to triage here but there’s still holes.”
As a biracial girl growing up in England, I’d never really seen any historical characters who looked like me depicted on film before that weren’t being brutalized or playing slaves.

“I’m not sure I care enough to listen to an explanation anyways. I’ll leave that stuff to people like you.” And by people like her, he meant scientists. It wasn’t necessarily meant to come off rude, but he had a hard time lightening his tone when he should most of the time.
“That’s fair.” Susan replies evenly. “People like me tend to love our jobs. The researching, the experimenting, the talking about it. We’ll be able to handle it.” She’s not offended by his words or the gruffness that comes with them. Susan’s stared down Galactus and fought alongside the Silver Surfer. The Winter Soldier sporting an attitude is nothing.

“Designating different realities? How’s that been going. Any cool ones?” Clint asked curiously before he shrugged his own shoulders at her question. “Nah, he’s lame. With a capital L. He’s got a wife and three kids and has retired on some farm in Idaho last time I checked.”
“Some more than others. We have to assess them all the same and hold them to the same criteria, even if they’re quote unquote lame.” She chuckles before pretending to wince. “Easy now, Hawkeye. I’m a wife with kids. We’re missing the farm, though. Reed would actually probably appreciate the space and solitude.” Her husband is a particular man, but she’s learned to love him for all that he is. “Am I obligated to say you’re better?”

“From what I gathered, you were the one everyone went to before She-Hulk moved in. Nothing like a little friendly competition, right?”
