there really is no way to describe that Gay Sadness™ when you hear your family being homo/transphobic
it’s such a fucking wakeup call on how i am in a bubble and my own imaginary world where its okay and normal to be gay, and then reality hits you in the face
terfs mistaking cis jewish women for trans women bc of facial hair is so.. huh.. like that really says something doesnt it. terf ideology is on such shaky foundations in literally all aspects so its not surprising that terfs would attack cis women who dont fit their idea of womanhood & bc they think trans women all look a certain way where theyll be able to identify them but that case specifically is particularly funny/horrible. especially bc like jewish women/jewish mothers being viewed as masculine is a longstanding stereotype thats been employed by nazis and reactionaries 🤔
I’ve seen actual nazi “how to spot a jew” propaganda rebranded as “how to spot a trans woman” spread around by terfs and it’s fucking mortifying
I turned out just fine!
Johana Medina León was denied medical care, says new legal claim: ‘She went to the US seeking protection and now she is coming home to us de
By Sam Levin:
“A transgender woman who died after becoming sick in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) custody had asked to be deported after she was repeatedly denied medical care, attorneys said Wednesday.
The family of Johana Medina León, a 25-year-old asylum seeker from El Salvador who died this month, filed a civil rights claim against the US government this week, alleging that officials ignored her numerous requests for treatment as her health ‘rapidly deteriorated’.
Medina León, who worked as a nurse in El Salvador, recognized that she needed IV fluids, but was denied. When she asked for water, sugar and salt so she could make her own IV, Ice also refused, the claim said. The treatment in Ice custody was so bad that Medina León, who was fleeing violence in her home country, requested to be deported so she could get medical attention, lawyers said. That request was also denied.
‘She came to the US because she thought it was a great country and that she would be safe there,’ her 22-year-old sister, Gabriela León, said in an email to the Guardian, sent by her lawyer. ‘She did everything right but was treated as a criminal … She shouldn’t have died. She went to the US seeking protection and now she is coming home to us dead.’”

What is going on with the world??
In a move that has sparked outcry from archaeologists, historians and locals, the Peruvian government has approved a multi-billion international airport near the famed site of Machu Picchu, Peru’s single most important tourist destination. Bulldozers have begun to clear millions of tons of earth for the project, which will be located in Chinchero, a picturesque Inca town.
Building the airport in this location will destroy an ancient landscape, one shaped by the Incan people with terraces and routes.
Critics also suggest that planes flying low over the nearby village of Ollantaytambo and its archaeological park filled with ruins and a massive Inca fortress with large stone terraces, would cause incalculable damage to fragile Inca ruins there and destroy the peace and beauty of the area.
The new airport will make access to the site much easier, and thus encourage greater numbers than ever before to visit.
But Machu Picchu is already overwhelmed by almost double the limit of tourists as recommended by UNESCO. [see also India’s Taj Mahal - an incredible site simply reeling under a relentless, ineffectively managed tourist, both domestic and international, onslaught]
It’s the constant battle between protecting the past and profiteering from it.
