Yamamori Mika Interview (Trans.)

Thanks to mzdollmaker​, who gave us this interview for us to translate. There’s more details on Tsubaki Chou Lonely Planet and it’s characters, especially Ohno Fumi and the older guy character. Also there’s a little bit Hirunaka no Ryuusei mentioned so go and read it!

MIKA’S INTERVIEW

Q: It has been about half a year since “Hirunaka no Ryuusei” has finished. The expected new series will start soon.

I’ve since moved and my private life has been hectic so this past half year has flown by. Even when Hirunaka ended, I had to draw for the extra chapters (It’s in “The Margaret” 6th issue which has been released). In summer, the extra chapters will be released in comics and so it’s not really real that Hirunaka has ended yet… “I’ve just moved projects” is what I’m feeling now (laughs). It’s like all the new characters have started to move in my head!

Q: What’s the new series about?

It’s about the protagonist seeking her whereabouts and her family, who then meets an older guy who changes her. At first, I think that Morishita Tsuu said that it was nice that there were a lot of characters, that it had comedy and that it had the element of living together but my assistant said to me “Yamamori-san, I don’t think it’s a comedy”…That’s true I thought and so I thought it seemed like a fantasy too… But, what I’ve drawn is a story about something outside of school that can also make your heart beat.

Q: I got an impression from the announcement that the protagonist seems to be a rich girl?

She’s the opposite of Hirunaka no Ryuusei’s Suzume-chan in that she’s very hesitant, she’s girly and she laughs often. It’s definitely a love story! Conversely, in the announcement, the one that doesn’t show his face at all is the older guy. I did it to add to the suspense (laughs). He’s a character very much different to Shishio and Mamura. However, he’s similar to Mamura in the part that he seems to be in a bad mood?

Q: Give us your enthusiasm for your new series!

She’s a protagonist different to Suzume. She’s girly so I’ll work hard on the cute retro-pop accessories! (laughs).

I really love moment where I’m scrolling through my insta feed and come across a picture from someone I follow that isn’t dolls and I actually care about it. Maybe that sounds mean on the surface but what it is is the moment I realize I really like this person and care about them and consider them a friend. I hope you fall in love with dance. I hope you fall in love so hard that it fills all of the dark places in your soul With so much light. That you find a sudden strength that gives you the power to fight Through difficult times.

When we were young we were dazzled by these unreachable champions. They wore beautiful dresses and they flew like birds across the stage. We never could see the hours of practice and injuries at that age. We only saw power and grace perfected.

There was so much love in that young, pigeoned toed dancer’s heart. All she wanted to do was learn how to fly too. How to learn to be a musician with her feet. Creating rhythms that feel like a heart beat. It was that little girl’s everything Always keeping her awake at night with dreams.

And now she is older, she is you. Standing before a mirror and not sure on what to do. You’re tired and it feels like those dreams seemed to slip away You can’t pin point when or what day But somehow they did. And you’re starting to feel undone. As if failure has won.

But hope is not lost. I hope the missing puzzle piece hits you one day, When you finish that move you have been working months on. When you finally get it and the pride comes rushing in. When you finally win that 1st. Let it all rush in and never let it go.

I hope you fall head over heels for dance once more. Eager to walk through the studio’s doors And make yourself into exactly who that little girl knew you could be. Because you can.

I hope you fall so in love that it becomes the reason you breathe. That it fills you with so much fulfillment and happiness, That the blisters and bruises just don’t matter. Because you proved that you could do it.

I hope that all of that love and passion pays off. That one day, you will get that recall. That you might find yourself on that podium. Or whatever goal you dreamed of at night, while you ran through your steps in your head. Right before bed, Every night you saw yourself in that place.

I hope it becomes more than just a dream. Because you have it in you. I know you do. The little girl knows you do. Do you?

Ah they look all so good together ;_; Only two more to go, then they are complete! Nicolais brother, Yuri, and Sariq - then Daniel and Asuka don’t have to stand together while everyone else is with their (planned) partner, haha.

And according to Granados and Iple’s shipping schedule they both should arrive in December, hurray :D (Yuri won’t have a body though…)
