My Paul & Irulan Playlist
I’m unable to watch the dune movie/ read the dune books without hating Paul. Because I’m just imagining the story through Irulan eyes and I get PISSED, like real fast.
I always think about the fact that Irulan NEVER cries but when Ghani calls her the childless wife of her father she started to cry. My girl was raised to keep her emotions in check but it was her child that was able to break down those walls.
PAULIRULAN IN FIVE
Fun film. I will definitely be watching the third one.
thoughts on paul/irulan?
I was gonna start this saying that I love failmarriages so of course I love Paul/Irulan, but I'm not sure we can call them a failmarriage because I think the attempt and subsequent failure is what defines the failmarriage, and Paul/Irulan didn't even try lol. Just political business with no attempts to look like anything else from the go (positive).
ANYWAY, I think it's very interesting for Irulan's character to dig into how she was raised in royalty and thus her relationships were always dictated by royal expectations, and how that never really stopped being her life. (Of course Paul was also a noble, but I do think he had more affection from both Leto and Jessica than Irulan had from her father). It's somewhat sad, but I also think it doesn't need to be this horrible thing... I haven't read Children of Dune yet, but it's my understanding that Irulan dedicates herself to raising the twins? And I think it's interesting how Irulan keeps being pragmatic (and perhaps we could even call her transactional) about her relationships. And a lot of what we know about her comes from texts she wrote intended as documentation, so we never really know the truth. Does that make sense? I think Paul/Irulan is extremely more interesting for her character than his (but maybe I'm just missing something).
[Send me a ship and I'll give my brutally honest opinion on it]

Big fan of when people write irulan and paul fics and chani dumps paul without the whole "having his kids and dying in childbirth" conundrum

DUNE: PART TWO (2024) - dir. Denis Villeneuve
forever fascinated by how little irulan speaks in person and how little we know about her as a person by it being expressed directly. yet we find out so much and such deep intimate details about her solely through her works. it feels like we know her, yet there is so much missing. and yet we cannot hear her

notttt the paul x irulan of my dreams in marching white fits
“Irulan proposes herself as mother of the Imperial heir.” Paul looks from the woman he loves to his wife, who avoids his gaze for fear of what she might find there. “We all know she holds no love for me.”
Irulan freezes. To the outside listener, it might sound like a casual admission of fact. But she’s spent ten years learning this man, if more as an academic than a lover. In his tone, she hears the kindness of a lie.
