Dutch people had such a cool way of resistance during WWII

In the Second World War, Dutch people made armbands out of coins with (former) queen Wilhelmina on it. Queen Wilhelmina was a national symbol of resistance for the Dutch people because of her speeches through secret radio broadcasts. Through these armbands, the Dutch showed a casual way of resistance against the Nazis. 

In 1942, the Nazis ordered the Dutch public to hand over these coins because they needed them for ammunition production. But, the Dutch held on to their coins. For most of them, it was the only way they could show resistance without risking their lives. This caused the Nazis to announce that people could risk a six month prison sentence if they didn’t hand them over before October 5th, 1942. However, by October 5th, only 7% of these coins were actually handed in. The rest was still in the hands of the Dutch public.

My grandmother has 2 of these. One of them is broken but the other is still whole. She has it in a coin case on display. I’ve always loved it and used to ask her about it when I was younger. They were from my grandfather’s parents.
