idk if your aware of this idiot but for years he and his girlfriend been abusing animals for years, he's a YouTuber called "Catch Em All Fishing" or Zak. he's abused axolotl's, reptiles, fish, etc. he claims they're ok but people who give a shit like Soda Pets spoke out against what he was doing and apparently on Reddit people in aquarium and reptile subreddits have posted about his abuse of animals to no avail, hell youtube won't take down the videos. at this point i'll be directly calling american animal wellfare organizations(since i can't email them, it asks for my personal info + i'm canadian so it further complicates trying to report his content to authorities.)

if you can bring some awareness to what Zak and his girlfriend are doing to animals, that would be amazing and keep up the good work!

I have been inactive on tumblr for a long time but I need a platform to share what I experienced today.

I work at a vet clinic and we had a dog come in today to be put down. She was not even 3 years old. She had gotten into a dog fight and was assumed to be the aggressor. To break up the fight her owner tazed her with a self defense tazer meant for people. They immediately wanted to euthanize but Sit Means Sit took her. They had her for about a month when she supposedly attacked a worker there. That's when they scheduled an appointment to have her put down. When they scheduled the appointment they said she was too aggressive and dangerous. When the worker dropped her off at the clinic she said the dog only gets worked up if the environment is crazy. When she came in she was underweight and, while she was a little nervous, she was calm. She did not tug on the lead. Not once did she give any fearful/aggressive glances. When we put a muzzle on her she did not fight or try to take it off. When I went to retrieve her from one of our kennels I was able to slip the lead on her with no issue and she stood up to follow me. She was perfectly leash trained. She sat when we said sit, and she stayed when there were multiple people and dogs coming in and out of the room. She was a beautiful girl who was given up on. By no means should she have been put down. She was left alone in a new place with people she did not know and she peacefully sat in my lap while we put her to sleep. It was by far the hardest thing I have experienced while working with animals. I would have given up anything if it meant I could give her another chance at a happy life. Sit Means Sit gave up on a young dog who could have been rehabilitated and been able to live a long happy life.

And this isn’t just about pugs with breathing problems or German shepherds with hip dysplasia. This applies to the dairy cows who are selectively bred to produce several times more milk than they otherwise would. This applies to beef cows bred to grow so large in such a small amount of time that when they’re actually allowed to live to be adults, they develop severe joint issues and other health abnormalities. This applies to chickens in the egg industry whose tiny little bodies produce 300+ eggs a year when they would otherwise produce around 10-15, causing them to endure a wide range of health problems (and yes, this goes for backyard hens too).

Outdoor cats can become indoor cats in time! That's what happened to my cat. She was originally a barn cat, but the other cats treated her badly and the farmer decided to give her to my family. At first, she really hated being indoors and tried to escape at every chance. We tried to leash train her, but she managed to break free of the leash and destroy her harness in the span of fifteen minutes. However, she gradually stopped escaping as often, and staying closer to the house when she did. 1/2

I dislike when people say “I want one” or “I want it” in reference to an animal especially cute or exotic animals. It just makes me think how humans want to own everything and treat living creatures as possessions that serve the purpose of satisfying their selfish desires.

Bc I know people don't like hearing it and I don't want you to get swamped with disagreement only: hell yeah to that last take. It sucks bc we love our cute animals, but I hope there is a future where pets are EXTREMELY and aggressively limited at the very least, and then tbh at that point they won't be "profitable" (living beings shouldn't be imo). It's too easy for too many shitty people to get animals that depend on them for their sole well being. Shitty animal treatment is too normalized.

Reminder that puppies are babies. They are learning. The human world is VERY confusing for human kids, let alone infants of an entirely different species. They aren’t “assholes” and they don’t do anything to spite you or make you mad. They interact with the world with their mouth because they don’t have hands.

 When playing, they’ll bite you harder than you like because they just don’t know it hurts!  And yes, they’re going to chew on things.

If you aren’t watching a puppy and they chew something you don’t want chewed… that is not a choice they made. They aren’t being naughty. That is the puppy being a baby, exploring the world with the only tool they have.

 Plus… teething is hella uncomfortable. Their mouths hurt! Chewing helps. That’s why you buy them all kinds of chewies, and keep anything else they can fit in their mouths out of reach. That’s your responsibility. 

Confinement areas are so important. Playpens, not just crates. If you aren’t watching your puppy and they chew on a shoe or poop somewhere, that’s on you. Again: that is not a choice they made. If you can’t watch your puppy, put them somewhere safe. Personally, I use x-pens with a crate, a pee pad, a water bowl, and tons of things to satisfy their teething instinct on.

I’ve raised four puppies now and I’ve learned a lot. The most important thing I’ve learned is patience and compassion. Try looking at things from their point of view before you get angry at them.

Even human babies are programmed to learn by putting things in their mouth, because the mouth is the most sensitive part. So if a creature with hands and opposable thumbs is designed to and NEEDS to mouth things in order to develop and learn properly, how much more so for a creature that has no hands and only a squishy, albeit toothy, mouth? And how long does it take to teach a human baby to successfully poop or pee in the designated area only? And you’re upset because it’s taking your puppy months? We get indignant when a parent doesn’t baby proof their home and then they have the audacity to get mad at their baby for getting into stuff or almost getting hurt; it’s the same with babies of all species. Don’t puppy proof your side table? Your face-level papers are getting shredded because how is puppy supposed to know that’s off limits?

Seriously, if you aren’t prepared to accept repeated potty accidents, chewing nonstop, nighttime awakenings, Godmode curiosity, getting nibbled, or having a clingy infant need you basically all the time, nor are you willing to work with those behaviors and teach them consistently, gently, and appropriately, don’t you dare get a puppy. There are plenty of adult dogs in shelters, don’t insist on a puppy you’re going to mistreat by refusing to work with their infancy and expecting them to just know everything when they got squeezed into the world less than a year ago.

Puppies are babies, you have to think about them as such.

Biologists Respond to ‘Science Denialism’ Regarding Outdoor Cat Control

A new open access study by leading scientists rebuts unfounded criticisms and reaffirms the need for effective outdoor cat control.

According to researchers, coordinated critics have mounted a “misinformation campaign designed to purposefully fabricate doubt regarding the harmful impacts of outdoor cats and stymie policies that would remove outdoor cats from the landscape.”

The conflict stems from a groundbreaking study published in 2013 by scientists from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. That study evaluated the combined impact of the tens of millions of outdoor cats in the United States. The authors found that roaming outdoor cats kill approximately 2.4 billion birds every year and are the leading source of direct, human-caused mortality to birds in the country. Similar results have since been confirmed in Canada and Australia.

Nope. No. Cats have been shown to be able to hunt around bell collars and bird collars so putting a collar on your cat doesn’t do anything in the slightest. 

Also it still makes you a horrible pet owner to those people who do it and it does nothing to address the other issues with “outdoor” cats which is putting your cat at risk of death, disease, running away and attacking other pets / animals. Cat feces also carry lots of diseases, some of which are zoonotic (meaning they can transfer to humans).

Keep. Your. Cats. Indoors. You have zero excuse not to do so and anyone complaining about how keeping cats indoors is cruel simply either don’t know anything about caring for a cat or cannot be bothered to provide their cats with proper care.

If you cannot keep your cat indoors, while also stimulated and happy then you shouldn’t have a cat! If you can’t provide the most basic of care to your pet then don’t have a pet.
