I think part of getting better is complete ego death. Like you’re not above setting a timer for 5 minutes and focusing on a task. You’re not above doing a very simple 3 minute workout to start. You’re not above reading for 10 minutes a day when you first get out of your reading slump, even if you used to read for hours. You’re not above starting slow and then building up to where you want to be/where you once were. What you are above is total inertia. Doing something really is better than doing nothing. Radically accept where you are, radically accept your limits, and go from there. Don’t let your ego get in the way.

You Have to get really into protecting the most vulnerable among us not purely out of some sense of sympathy for those who have it worse than you (though that can be a helpful starting point) but because ripping out the most deeply held biases, the most socially acceptable bigotries, will involve uprooting these thought processes and accepted power systems from the bottom up. "Nobody is free until all of us are free" is a good slogan but you need to *really* get into what that means & looks like in practice. You absolutely cannot have any exceptions to your principles

#I can’t prove it #but I have a theory that Bo Burnham had a critical parent and or sibling that made him feel bad for wanting to be a famous entertainer #hence why a big part of his schtick is this excessive self flagellation about how he hates that he wants to be famous #he clearly wants and enjoys fame #but hates that he does because someone in his life instilled in him the belief #that wanting to be famous or just wanting attention makes you inherently bad or evil

RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70’s and 80’s. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.
