Desire paths are just the best human invention because cities will spend millions on sidewalks and yet. Our little foraging brains will think ‘too far cut thru grass for food’ and others will be like ‘other human have good idea. I follow’ until there’s a beaten path when there’s perfectly acceptable sidewalks to either side

these are called “olifantenpaadjes” in dutch (little elephant paths) (remember this for later it’s important) and there’s a whole facebook page dedicated to it, where people can send in pictures of these “elephant paths” all across the country and they get rated with stars.

apparently, a city renovated its park, and ended up putting a tree branch over a beloved path:

of course, this meant the path had become unusable, which is an utter tragedy, so an anonymous citizen did the rational thing and got up in the middle of the night, went to the park, and cut the branch in half using a chainsaw.

so like.. this citizen should probably get arrested for destruction of public property right??? nah. the city just thought it was funny and even made a joke about it when the renovated park got-re opened. the only thing to come out of it was this photo, posted by a local news site:

and that’s the story of how dutch people really, really, really love their little elephant paths.

The correct design solution is to take these paths. And then put a more formal paved path down. This prevents grass damage. And makes a more usable path

3D LOW-POLY COMMISSIONS

i graduated this past june but i’m still looking for work. i’m financially secure, no emergency, but i would like to start making at least a little bit of income while i’m still jobhunting.

so i’m taking commissions for 3d character models in a low-poly style inspired by the crash bandicoot games on PSX. these are generally between 400-600 triangles, mostly vertex painted, with some low-res textures wherever needed. you’ll get about the level of detail you see in these, but your character may have slightly more detailed textures if their design calls for it (characters with a lot of markings, etc). i’ll do any kind of character, but be aware that not everything translates well into 3D, and some design elements may have to be changed or eliminated to make the character 3D-friendly.

these will start at $40 USD for a painted, textured, and rigged (poseable) character, and go up depending on how complex the character is. by default, i will not rig the character’s face. if you also want their face rigged, so you can change their facial expression, that will probably bump up the price by $5-$10.

if you just want the character in a static T-pose, not poseable, it’ll be cheaper, more like $30.

when your commission is complete, you will receive a zip with the following:

a .dae file of the character (with their rig if applicable)

a .blend file of the character

a 500x500 animated gif showing a turnaround of the character in whatever kind of pose you’d like (please specify!)

all textures and any other files needed to make the model work.

these will be rigged in blender, and should be used with blender for best results. the .dae should also import into maya with minimal errors if you use that. (if you want a rig made specifically for maya, talk to me about that.) they will NOT work in MMD or source filmmaker or garry’s mod or anything like that.

i’ll take 3 commissions at a time for now. i will keep my blog updated with how many slots are occupied.
