there is a prevailing sentiment among American jewry that suffering is the thing that makes us unique and i find this rhetoric reprehensible
jews have suffered, yes, but we are more than the hurt we are given. The rich history of judaism and the multicultural nature of jewish peoplehood should be our pride
the uniqueness of judaism is our perseverance, our mandate from G’d to survive and thrive wherever we find ourselves, and our ability to commune with others who have also persevered in spite of the odds
judaism is inherently opposed to suffering, and wherever injustice prevails it is our duty by G’d to speak for those who find themselves voiceless and to root out those elements which fomenta hatred, in union with those who have also felt the cruelty of repression
Justice is our legacy, what is yours?
