also, i've figured out what I want to be the 'turning point' in Lucius and Izzy's relationship. (or the first big one, I guess)

I want Blackbeard to try to push Lucius overboard again for some reason (while he's still in his Kraken phase) and Izzy instinctively reaches out to save him. he catches Lucius and brings him back on to the ship for no apparent reason other than he doesn't want Lucius to die.

and Izzy tries to retroactively explain it away, but it is clear he was just acting from instinct because he actually cares for Lucius as a person, despite not wanting to.

also I just like the idea of Izzy defying Blackbeard to save Lucius. it would be such a stark turn-about.

What I love about Our Flag Means Death is that it’s not only a romcom about pirates but there’s actually three different romantic comedy arcs going on at the same time. 

There’s the fairytale, love at first sight plot between Ed and Stede complete with Everyone Can See It, Mistaken Identity, Rags to Riches (or Riches to Rags to be more accurate) and even a Rescue Romance/Nursing Back to Health plot. 

There’s the childhood best friends to lovers arc going on with Olu and Jim complete with Cannot Spit It Out, I Want My Beloved To Be Happy and the pining that goes with wanting to be together but having to temporarily part ways.

And then there’s the actual Slap Slap Kiss, Belligerent Sexual Tension situation going on with Lucius and Izzy where it’s obvious that a lot of the conflict in the show would be resolved if they (or rather just Izzy) just gave in and banged against the mast of the ship. Plus there’s also the vocal approval from Lucius’s canonical love interest who can see what’s going on, doesn’t care and actually thinks it’s hot.

The fact there’s three different love stories going on is backed up by David Jenkins admitting he thinks the show needs THREE seasons to tell the story he wants to tell.
