something i enjoy about the final boss of thunder force v is that there's often a question of why bosses switch to stronger attacks as they lose health if you're looking at it from a realism perspective. obv games are not real. but i enjoy playing around with justifying it and tfv actually does

Chaos Ascendant is a time over boss, if you don't kill it in time, it properly reconstructs its code membrane and escapes the digital space to take control of your ship's mainframe, from which it will recreate the ORN empire. Importantly, this means it's growing stronger regardless of your actions. You're just an incidental issue it's dealing with as it works on its true goal, consuming Guardian's corpse as a means to rebirth itself. I love the butterfly theme here - it's classic obv but it lines up so well with the way it's not simply powering up but coming back to life
