i honestly think that the whole āiām your dadā bit was about both rick and morty kind of acknowledging that mortyās main caregiver is rick, and even with how fucked up it is, rick is kind of the only one in the family to regularly seek out spending time with him and give him guidance. i donāt think morty reminding us that his entire āoriginalā family is dead was unintentional - even though they all love each other on the ādoesnāt matter where we came from, this is all our original timeline nowā basis, there are still hierarchies. for example, the beths and summer are from the same dimension - i think itās true without this scenario that bethās favorite is summer, but i think this elevates that when itās literally still her original summer, and morty isnāt technically her original son.
morty was one of the first people rick formed a strong bond with post-diane, and one of the only consistent people in his life. i think if rick had to pick one person who he considered family, he would absolutely pick morty prime. we donāt know just how long rick has known this morty but heās clearly very attached to him, and has been adventuring with morty prime for a long time. morty is the same - out of everyone in the family, heās known rick the longest and he seems to always seek him out first whenever he needs anything. i think the choice of having morty bond with another version of jerry in the first half was very intentional, and meant to create a parallel. that jerry wasnāt meant to be a replacement for his jerry - he was a replacement for his rick. rick views morty as his child, and morty views rick as his main father figure.
