“…So … where exactly are you taking me?” Kurama was absolutely baffled by the other’s sudden request to visit this place. If it weren’t for the fact that the other had a promise to show him something special, he wouldn’t have taken him up on the offer. Come to think of it, Kurama hadn’t seen Hiei in quite a while. Usually, he’d at least see Hiei once in a day. Whether that be him sleeping in a tree, Hiei telling Kurama about the new things he had found on the island, and so on. But these days? It seemed quiet, too quiet. Kurama couldn’t help but feel like something was wrong. Was the ‘special something’ Hiei by any chance? Nah, maybe it wasn’t. He didn’t think Kogi would be the type to randomly kidnap someone out of the blue nor spy on the both of them. But then again… He didn’t know much about the snow-haired kitsune outside of a few conversations. For now, he’ll just keep quiet and observe. That was the best thing to do at a moment like this.  @danceofthekitsune​ @jaganeyed

Is what the small fox wanted to say but what he does respond with is almost as good.  ❝ My Kingdom. ❞ Like an excitable child would, Kogitsunemaru is thrilled to be able to show off the fox village and all its glorious wonders to his new found friend.

Taking Kurma by the hand he leads him through a hoard of frolicking foxes jumping and leaping in the air, nipping at his robes as they pass. Usually he comes with food to feed and nourish his ‘children’ but Kogi brings something far more precious and valuable than food; a friend.

    ❝ I’m certain you’ll find my Kingdom to your liking. ❞ This is spoken with a titter and a somewhat smug upturn of those nose. As they traverse the village, Kogitsunemaru and Kurama pass a playpen which acts as a jail cell housing those naughty rascals and it just so happens its occupied at the moment. 

Stopping in front of the playpen the fox leans over and whispers. Secretively.  ❝ We don’t talk to him. He’s been banished to the playpen of shame. ❞

–「 Irritating foxes abound. The stupid little things keep coming up to sniff and inspect your prison while you try to take a decent nap. Really, you could get out of this thing any time you wanted, but aside from the nosy intruders you’ve made yourself comfortable. That is, until you see *him* again. You snort and cross your arms, hoping he moves along.」

「 The only reason you hadn’t reversed the roles with your warden was because, through the few interactions you had with this guy, the information that he was Kurama’s friend came up. If you hurt him you’d never hear the end of it, at best, and at worst he’d think less of you for it forever.」

「 One of those things isn’t going to matter though. The color drains from your face as you notice who he’s with.」

「 Oh. Oh  no.」

“Banished? As if. I’m just playing along so I don’t have to listen to you cry about it. ”

“Oh, but there is a reason, Hiei.” Kurama grinned. Well, right now it was a reason to laugh at him and mess with him, like usual. However before that, winning the plush and playing that game wasn’t. He had noted the game as he trotted across the festival grounds and it had caught his eye, he had never explored much underwater so why not try gain a skill for it at that game? And then so he did, he never got the chance to obtain that gold pearl but he found a spectrum of pearls searching around for the ocean; about three black pearls, two pink pearls, and ten white pearls. Leading up to the prize that Hiei was now stumbling over, a gigantic pastel colored plush of a whale shark.  Though Kurama did have the ability to carry it and was about to as soon as he picked it out, he glanced over at Hiei who had been following alongside him the entire day. Like the mischievous little fox spirit he had, he thought it’d be hilarious for Hiei to carry it, and boy was he right.  Kurama had to contain himself from laughing, almost biting his thumb but holding back so Hiei wouldn’t notice his mockery. Though it seemed like Hiei was catching on to a degree, he was starting to question Kurama’s own actions. But there was one thing Hiei didn’t know, he didn’t know that Kurama knew exactly how to motivate Hiei; and that was a challenge against strength.  “Don’t you want to prove that you’re stronger than me? I don’t think I’d be able to carry that stuffed animal for long durations afterall.”

–「 You squint at Kurama, very much catching on to the fact that there is something unusual about his demeanor. While you suppose you *should* be thrilled at the fact he’s beaming, there’s just something a little too smug about it. Then, he speaks, and you understand. 」

「The stuffed animal isn’t heavy at all. In fact, with your strength, it would be all too easy to carry it one handed. But it was Kurama’s thing, and he seemed attached to it enough to want you to keep track of it. So you took extra care as to not allow it to bump into anything dirty, and held it with both arms.」

「 But now it’s obvious, he’s trying to goad you into playing this game with him. Certainly, he’s strong enough to carry this stupid plush toy. He just wants to see you do it. Why?」

“Oh please. First of all, I know I’m stronger than you.” 

“But I’m not stupid enough to think that this would be too much for you. So what is it? Are you trying to trick me into keeping this dumb looking thing? Because I can promise you I don’t want it.” 

–「 You study him for a moment, trying to gauge his reaction.」

“Why not give it to one of the many excited human children that have pointed at me carrying it? Isn’t that the sort of thing that caters to that bleeding heart of yours?”

“Remind me why we’re going through this again? I understand you have a soft spot for humans and their things, but I hardly see what any of this has to do with me.” –「 You say, clearly unamused by the loud, grating sound coming from the stage nearby. Staying at home had you restless, so you’d been following Kurama around for the better part of the evening. As a result, you got stuck carrying this ridiculous, oversized prize he won.  Oh how the mighty have fallen.」

「 No really. You’re basically tripping over this stupid thing. You set it on the ground.」

“If you’re going to put me through this, at least make it worth my while. I want to do something that’s actually challenging.”

If it could have been humanly possible, his expression became even more serious, the pondering was now more prominent on his face.  So it did look like Hiei and Kuwabara came from a similar frame in time, one had been taken before the other. Overall, the one thing that the two had in common was the fact that they had been taken during the battle with Sensui and his six members. Kurama couldn’t help but find this strange for two reasons: how could they have been suddenly taken away? Especially when it seemed like in every match the others were intent on taking away their lives…  There was also the fact that Kurama could vividly remember everything that happened during that final confrontation with Sensui and the others following his orders. Kurama could remember mentioning and hearing his own teammates willing to risk their lives to save the human realm. He could also remember the immense anger he felt over the Game Master when he lost, the moment he lost his cool and killed in cold blood. He also remembered thinking Yusuke truly was gone for good, and all the anxiety and grief he had felt at that moment before seeing Yusuke get up to fight once more. He could swear he spotted Hiei and Kuwabara during that, he heard their real voices, noted their movements. He also remembered being stuck inside Itsuki’s alternate dimension as well. Remembering Itsuki’s abilities reminded him: could it have been possible that Itsuki could tap into alternate timelines too? He could only hope that wasn’t the case. If Itsuki did grab the two before they could finish up the battle, it’d cause trouble for the others fighting to stop Sensui. It could cause Sensui to be able to split apart the barrier between the human and demon realms with ease. …But at the same time… How would they be able to stop Sensui so easily and keep the human realm at peace in the timeline Kurama had arrived from? Overall, his mind was all over the place due to this sudden burst of information. He would think him reuniting with Hiei would’ve been warm and far more pleasant, maybe with him cracking a joke at Hiei that would cause him to scoff and throw a half-hearted threat at Kurama. But instead, this one was filled with anxieties, both about the safety of their home, their friends, and Hiei himself. For now, he should try to soothe the other. It did seem like Hiei was deeply upset, he could hear the sharp scratching of the bark.

“He did die.” Kurama informed, he wasn’t going to sugar coat things around the other. That wasn’t a thing he liked to do around the other anyways. “However, he was able to revive due to an awakening of his demon traits right at that moment. I have to say, it’s a true miracle.” As he explained the last, he realized that this Hiei possibly didn’t know that Yusuke was a half-demon. Let alone Raizen’s child, this was definitely going to take a lot of explaining.

–「 It takes you a moment to become comfortable with his silence, as your nerves are already on edge. It’s a wonder, what a wandering mind can do. But you recognize that distant stare of his, the one he reserves for times of contemplation. And you have to wonder, is he trying to come up with a polite way to tell you to leave? Maybe, it’s going to be something more cutting, something to affirm it’s your fault in some part. 」

「 You wish you didn’t have guts to knot. You hate this. Feeling like you’re going to burst apart from the inside at any given moment. Get it over with, Kurama.」

「 But that harsh cut never comes. Just as ever, he keeps his usual coolness to him. And when he gives you the best news you’ve heard in days, most of your worries melt away. Not all. But most. 」

“... demon, traits?” 

–「 How you sputter must be comical. You recover quickly, but you’d rather see him laugh at your expense again. You’re selfish. You want him to bury the rest of your worries away so you can sleep easy, knowing things are fine. But regardless, you give a snort, canting your head as if you had suspected such a twist all along.」

“It figures. There’s no comparison between him and Kuwabara, after all. What with how quickly he gained competency over time, especially to the degree he has. You’ll have to fill me in on the details but first-” 

–「 You glance up to him. You won’t fall in too deep if you test the ice first. 」

“We should work together to get out of this annoying mess. I hate it here, and I’m sure you aren’t happy about being kept from your world either.”

 Several berries had been plucked for his consumption as the fox hasn’t been able to fill the void in his gut. It’s not like food was exactly scarce however what was available didn’t quite agree with his stomach. Kogitsunemaru has been spoiled rotten with delicious cuisine to the point where his pallet is repulsed by that which is less than desirable however he’s no stuck up snooty priss.

He’ll eat what he can when its available which is why his lips are painted in a soft tint of red. Succulent berries tend to leave behind palatable juices and had he known he caught the eye of another the fox would have would have presented in a more  endearing manner.

    ❝ I haven’t the slightest idea what you’re talking about there but– ❞ Did he just threaten to set him on fire? Well that’s a none too pleasant way to go. 

    ❝ Listen guy I wouldn’t be throwing threats around like that if I were you. I’m a baaad fox you can’t torch me. ❞

–「 You had been so hopeful that the person you needed to speak to the most right now, was in fact, not here. Your anger sparks up high in your gut, but even at the height of your annoyance you recognize a civilian when you see one. Or at the very least, you’ve made the executive decision to underestimate this guy based on what you believe to be a bad performance, and a fluffy exterior.」

「 Huffing through your nose, you tilt your head off to the side, glaring him down as you cross your arms. It’s imperative for your search that he cooperate with you. And as much as you threaten to set him on fire, you actually can’t right now.」

“You’re hardly threatening. And I mean it. Wear your hair up from now on, or I’ll tear you to pieces. I need to find my-” 

–「 Your what? This is a stranger! You can call him your friend.」

“Kurama,” –「 Perfect! 」“And you bear a stupidly uncanny resemblance to him. So wear it up, or I’ll have to give you a new haircut.”

Shuichi had been here for a few weeks, however, there were still plenty of places he had not explored yet. The first place he did want to check out was the area rumored to have a strange portal smack dab in the middle. Of course, he wasn’t going to risk it and jump into it. But he did want to get an idea of the surroundings, maybe see if he could detect anything supernatural presence inside of that hole. After all, rumors did have it that if someone hopped inside of that hole, they wouldn’t come out the same. Shuichi was going to find out why the best he could, without hopping into that hole himself. During his journey, he had ended up inside a forest. The forest couldn’t help but bring memories of his experiences back at home. More often than not, when he went for a stroll at the park or even a little further than his home he’d catch Hiei trying to get his attention or taking a nap there more often than not. The more he thought, his gaze fixated on the branches of the trees right above him.  Don’t be ridiculous, it wasn’t like Hiei would somehow find his way here.  Hell, Shuichi wasn’t even sure how he got here himself. His memories about getting to the island just felt like a strange blur. It was almost like how it was in that ginormous city, he remembered some things, but not every detail about how he ended up there. He really wish he could figure somethings out, that, and make some progress about why and how these strange occurrences were happening… A loud CRASH knocked Shuichi out of his senses, right before him was a familiar shade of black and white. Could that really be him? The shadowed being had hopped back up, and he caught gaze with that familiar face and that familiar shade of brown. Usually, he’d laugh at Hiei falling flat on his face, but he was just too baffled to even chuckle.  “I’ve been here for about a few weeks, I haven’t noticed you arriving because I haven’t seen you.” Always accusatory, typical Hiei… He could tell this was the real one. “That, and I’ve been too busy trying to find out how I ended up here in the first place and trying to find out what type of magic occurs on this island.” His surprise became visibly prominent when Hiei had mentioned different timelines. Could that really be true?

“What would make you say that?” He turned his head a little, confused. “What events happened in your timeline? Were Mukuro and Yomi just trying to fight for the throne in yours?”

–「 You aren’t sure whether to gauge his lack of laughter as a sign that he’s in thought, or as a sign that your presence isn’t as appreciated as hoped. While you would like to get comfortable on the branch, it isn’t going to happen until you figure out if you should be here. After all. For all you know, it could be years, maybe even decades in the future for him. He could have outgrown you.」

「 Judging by what he says, you assume that to be the case. And it’s frustrating. If he truely has grown indifferent to you, he won’t be the first to say so. It would be too harsh. Too cutting to just get it over with.」

“The framework is there, but no. I assume they’re both still waiting on the death of Raizen. But to answer your question...”

“I say that because it’s true. I ran into Kuwabara who, is from a point in time after where I was taken from. You had just defeated the Game Master, and we were approaching the end of the tunnel where Sensui lie in wait.” 

–「 You pause, regretting this elaboration already. Surely, Kurama would see through you, and with your uncertainty having taken root already you’re not feeling in the mood to be vulnerable. But you’re here, and you are.」

“Yusuke died, fighting, I assume.”

「 You should stop talking. But decades haven’t passed for you. The blunt edges of your fingernails dig into bark.」

“After all of that fuss of asking me to join him again, I wasn’t there for it.”

Another idiot’s brains blown out through his skull.

Not that that does much to lessen the swarm.

What a waste of time. Sanzo’s used to being sieged by swarms of fodder, but generally there’s someone pulling the strings who eventually shows up. In this case, it’s stupidity to no apparent end. 

And really, it’s the fact that every enemy so far is butt ugly that Sanzo manages to not shoot the idiot who jumps right in the path of his bullet, and shoots some goblin or other instead. Should have just shot the dumbass.

“Don’t get in my way.” Sanzo says coldly, words as deadly as his bullets.

–「 You’d sensed him nearby, certainly, though you didn’t expect to nearly be attacked at all. With all of the scattered gunfire, and explosions, it was hard to discern which was coming from where. So you may have stepped in front of someone shooting some goblins. But what you aren’t going to tolerate is someone calling out the fact you made a mistake- that would be too simple wouldn’t it?」

「 The world is crashing all around, so now seems like a good a time as any to start a fight with someone who clearly needs to be taught a lesson in respect. And you’re feeling positively educational.」

“Who said I was trying to get in your way?” 

–「 You take a wide stance. Certainly, you’re fast enough to dodge a few bullets, and certainly you’re strong enough to take a few now.」

“Go ahead and fire that thing for real. If you’d like, I’ll even keep one hand behind my back while I smear you across the dirt.”

Zer0 lines up the reticle slowly, deliberately as they aim down the sight of their sniper rifle. Yes, they were given their sword, but it seems wise to eliminate as many as they can from afar using this method before jumping straight into melee. Their hands steady and the sight focuses directly onto the beast’s head. They pull the trigger, wait a second or two, then watch as its cranium explodes in a cloud of red and pink. The body falls over, dead.

They train the rifle on another, shoot, pop. Aim, shoot, pop. Aim, shoot, pop. Before they move their eye from the sight, they’d headshot at least twenty of those bastards. The remaining are pissed—and before Zer0 has a chance to set the base up again, they find it jumping in the air towards them. Zer0 spins around towards the source of the noise and pull the trigger, exploding the monster’s head and sending it hurtling back towards the ground. A red [ 0̸ ] is displayed.

[ 360 no scope. / The evil is defeated. / I am a badass. ]

They jump from the building, hopping off of bits of debris as they collapse to the ground.

–「 You aren’t much for helping people you don’t know. Not out of malice, or any sort of hatred, no. Recent events have softened your position on humans, if only slightly, but even still. You tend to focus on the select number of people who, if they were to disappear, would mean something. However. Those people have a moral code, and were they to see you let a person die willingly when you had the capacity to step in, that would matter. 」

「 Also, you recognize a skilled fighter when you see one. It’s a shame to see something like that go to waste. Sensing the demon energy lurching far underground before it surges up towards that fighter, you swoop in to grab them by the back of the collar, tossing them back out of range. They’re heavier than expected, and when you try to make sense of the fighter’s energy, interestingly enough you fail.」

「 Color you curious. 」

「 You wait for a few seconds for the giant worm-like creature to burst from the ground, and while you loathe the technique, you think it is likely most apt here. You set the sword you have in your hand ablaze, cauterizing the beast as it rises. It writhes, paralyzed from shock, but it will be dead soon.」

“Don’t get too cocky,” –「 you say, an absolutely hypocritical statement if there ever was one.」 “There are more of them below the surface. If you think you can handle them, then I’m leaving.”

–「 Though, the idea of fighting them sounds a bit more appealing than parting ways.」

“... what are you?”

–「 Of course this was a set up. You had figured it before the lot of you even started, but you hadn’t factored in how quickly things would escalate. Not only had demons come to spiral out of the gaping maw, but so had monsters you were entirely unfamiliar with. Some of them, you’re sure, aren’t of any realm you’re familiar with. What’s worse is in all the mayhem, you’d gotten separated from the others too. But your powers are back, and thus you’ve been granted more than enough to battle with foes.」

「 Most of them don’t hinder you long, and eventually, you manage to take refuge to get a sense of where you’re best utilized. Your Jagan opens, and with it, your insights.」

「 At first, it seems like everyone’s holding their own just fine, at least in the moment you glance at them. But when you turn your attention to Kuwabara, things begin to look a bit more dire. 」

「 He’s being swarmed. Because of course he is. Really, Kuwabara always seems to be the one to get the roughest cut of any challenge, but with the way things are going it doesn’t look like he’s going to be able to keep up. With the mortality of the more human members of your group very fresh in mind, you rush in that direction, having not been too far off in the first place. You spot Kuwabara amongst the flurry; and while could take out these things out all at once with the hellfire of the dragon, pulling out the stops isn’t an option. 

You can’t control it completely, and there are civilians. And while you don’t have too many qualms about sacrificing a few pedestrians, you would never live to hear the end of it. Unleashing the flames of the dragon aren’t an option here.」

“Do you always have to get yourself stuck in some sort of a situation, you idiot?” 

–「 You slice your blade upwards, taking out swath of lesser demons who, really aren’t the main threat. But they do damage, and distract nonetheless.」

“Don’t you think I have anything better than to save-” 

「 The wind is taken from your lungs. You’d rushed to block an attack from hitting him, but the blade you were wielding broke. The tang of iron is already in your mouth. You know this song and dance, and while this isn’t the worst reason to die, it wasn’t your decision. Fury is the only thing keeping you on your feet.」

“-you.” 

「 You feel your shoulders knock against his, as you ignite your palms to engulf the beast that pierced you. An ugly taloned thing. Unremarkable in every way. Your fingers pull on fabric as you lose your balance, all your bitterness fed. 」
