important reminder that most people you follow online are significantly lamer than you think they are including me. and if you feel insecure comparing yourself to someone online: DON'T. theyre probably also lame and weird. most people on the internet are
reblog if you're also lame and weird.

i think there’s a disconnect in fandom spaces between the general fan attitude of “i want more fic all the time with the exact concepts i’m interested in executed exactly the way i think is best and i want it to be 100k words and i want 25 chapters and i want a new chapter every day” and then also “i can’t believe the writers i was treating like a machine to create the art i want to consume as if it came off an assembly line used a machine to do it :/ who could ever do this” and like yeah obviously not everyone is in that first group but it’s an extremely pervasive attitude in newer, younger, popular fandoms. i don’t think it’s an “excuse” to use AI but i think the attitudes and environment that create that also create authors who feel they have to use AI to keep up with demand or authors who feel that their work is being consumed as factory-line commodities so why bother putting in effort? everyone wants fast food. everyone wants shein. if you want to be in an environment where art is created by artists the environment needs to be one that values art and creation and the process rather than just end results and numbers.
like, writers and artists and people who create any kind of fan works are IN your fandom with you! they are not some outside entity who you appease with kudos and comments and reblogs to make sure your crops survive the winter. if i join a new fandom and everyone is obsessed with First, Longest, Newest, Most, More then those are also going to be the concepts i value when deciding to create fanwork!
it’s sad to me because the aspect of fanworks that i enjoy the most is the community aspect. i love having long conversations with my friends and other fans about work i’ve created and work they’ve created and work others have created. you don’t get that with AI works, right? you get, like, the dopamine rush of New, More! and then it fades because there was no real creative process involved. but there’s a lot of fandom spaces where that dopamine rush is all you get, because fanworks are treated as content being created for the fandom rather than by the fandom. idk man!!! it all sucks!!! i have a lot of empathy for people who have been raised in this environment when it comes to everything — school, social media, friendships, relationships — and bring the same processes into fandoms. we have to engage with the world to have a world with engaging in

Rocky was in space for 50 years of course the recuperation period is long and hard
What if oxygen is poisonous and it just takes 75-100 years to kill us?
My science teacher said he thinks that’s true actually
Yeah this is actually pretty much exactly what is going on. It’s why anti-oxidants are such a big deal. Bonus fact: oxygen oxidizes stuff in your cells or, in other words, it’s not toxic, just setting you on fire very very slowly.
What if there are aliens out there but they subsist on entirely different substances and they’re just scared as shit of us and our crazy ass hell planet? Once in a while some alien anthropologist type suggests checking out the people on this inhabited planet out towards the galaxy’s edge. The other aliens just look at the naive academic with horror. No!! We do not go to that world. That is where the DEATH BREATHERS live. They recreationally consume poisons and are more or less composed of biological fire. Their atmosphere is made of rocket fuel. We must leave the DEATH BREATHERS in peace. Do not go there. Do not.
I tend to always reblog posts about humans being terrifying weirdos to aliens.
@brainsforbabyjesus
okay but…that is actually what went down on earth about 2.5 billion years ago.
Earth was doing just fine with a mostly nitrogen/carbon dioxide atmosphere and everyone was happy to go on living in anaerobic bliss and then cyanobacteria suddenly hit the scene, altered the atmosphere composition so that there was a ton of oxygen gas and killed practically everything (97% or more of all species on earth).
We are literally descendants of the DEATH BREATHERS and cyanobacteria is our deadly mother.
The cyanobacteria holocaust is so big, it doesn’t even have a cool name; it’s just called “The Great Oxygenation Event”; the *second* most apocalyptic extinction event in our planet’s history is the one that’s called THE GREAT DYING (the Permian-Triassic event, about 252 million years ago).
This shit makes like the rock-throwing that wiped out the dinosaurs look like kindergarten.
OH HOW I LOVE THIS POST. It makes me so much happier about being alive. I AM BURNING VERY SLOWLY. *hugs it*
And once again, the internet makes learning history and science a thousand times more interesting than school ever did.
I love shit like this.
I was totally having thoughts along these lines and along comes tumblr to pretty much sum it all up. Bravo~

isn’t the Oxygen thing the entire reason why we have complex life in the first place? like we need to be burning to have the metabolism to be more than simple bacteria mats and plankton?
Yeah, it’s what allowed us to evolve things like cellular nuclei and pluricellularity, but we cannot discard that such things could evolve in a different way elsewhere, just that after the Great Oxidation Event, it wasn’t possible on Earth anymore.
whats everyones favorite cocktails. i totally adore a sex on the beach. no rum and coke okay i want your favorite gay ass colorful fruity tasting type of drink okay? okay. i trust you. i love you

another teacher grace moment i love is when rocky gives him the oxygen model he goes 'i dont have one of these thank you!' like that is THE most teacher response ever when a child gives them something utterly incomprehensible but made with love
"Get to work, Dr Grace. The world is counting on you."

Since July is Disability Pride Month
(as opposed to every other month when we're all demure about disability rights /gentle sarcasm)
I wanted to highlight one of my favorite artists: Liberal Jane.
If you're a new writer and you're asking yourself "is this too personal, is this too much, will people think this is weird" that feeling is the exact location of your actual voice. The stuff that makes you want to close the laptop is the stuff nobody else could write. The safe version is always worse. Always. I have never once read something and thought "this would have been better if it was a little less honest." go further. It's always go further.
me as a kid reading Dune: I appreciate the detailed world-building that justifies why everyone fights with swords and has mental powers, but the idea of a Butlerian Jihad against computers is pretty silly
me in 2025, trying desperately to find the three (3) places you need to go to to disable the latest helpful AI assistant that's inserted itself into my work chat and is advising me to do things that would be a breach of federal law: Oh Now I Get It
it bothers me that you often don't really hear about people having a "favorite album" the way they might have a favorite movie or favorite video game
fuck it. reblog this and tell me in the tags what your favorite album is
just so we’re clear if you’ve never actually seen a cybertruck in person and have only seen photos of them i cannot stress enough how much worse they look in real life. like i honestly don’t know how it’s possible. most things look basically the same in pictures and in real life. but as stupid and ugly as cybertrucks look in photos, every person i’ve spoken to who has seen one in real life agrees that they somehow look even worse in person. and i know you’re thinking to yourself “tah they already look so bad in photos, how can they possibly look even worse in person?” I DONT KNOW. the first time i saw one on the road i was on a phone call and i literally cut myself off in the middle of a sentence just to be like “oh my GOD.” just an incredibly, laughably, unbelievably bad vehicle. i’ve never experienced anything like it. they’re just so bad
