For a fic I’m writing, how do you think Jared Hopworth would act with an apprentice? Would he even take one?
He doesn’t exactly serve the Flesh 100%, seeing as he was against the idea of taking over the world, but he understands the concept of it, right? So if someone newly taken over by the Flesh went to him for help, what seems most realistic?
Mod here. Hoo boy it has been so long since I've thought about Jared for longer than like a few seconds so take my opinion as just that. Of course, because it's fanfic, you can do whatever you want and the most helpful piece of advice I've ever read was something along the lines of, "Don't ask 'would he say this', ask 'what do I need to put him through to make him say this'." I'll go ahead and link you to that post here when I find it (that's a reblog from my writing account btw, shameless plug).
But with that in mind, since that's how I tend to go about my own writing, that's how I'm gonna approach this ask. I'm gonna, first, tell you what I think of Jared as he is. And then I'll tell you what he COULD be, with a little bit of work.
I think, taken right out of the source, he might not take a mentee. Looking at the way he treats other people, especially in his first episode and his last episode, he tends to treat everyone else like... Well. Like meat. Even before becoming an avatar, one of the first things he did upon getting his hands on that book was to do Something to his mother. If he's going to treat someone close to him like that, and he treats strangers as their potential to be beautiful plants for his amusement, it leaves very little room in my mind for the sort of mental attitude required of mentorship.
Which I think is a FANTASTIC opportunity to make him do it anyway. You just gotta ask, "What needs to happen to make him want (or need) to take an apprentice?" Without doing the fun part for you, all I can really say is you gotta put him in a Situation that will encourage the behavior you want from him. Maybe his own well-being is on the line, or maybe your guy has something to offer him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For your question "how would he act with an apprentice," I guess that really does depend on what kind of Situation you put him in! Your best bet is probably to track down all the episodes he's in and take a critical look at those transcripts. Take some notes. Spitball some possible motivations.
Anyway, I hope you have lots of fun writing! You've got a promising concept here.
