Every summer I forget how much I fucking love spiders I’ve drunk one every day this week
Drinking spiders??!
You put ice cream in a glass and pour soft drink over it. It creates a thick layer of delicious foam on top of a sweet, creamy drink with ice cream in it.
And yes I did attempt to get a picture by googling “Australia spider” like a fucking moron.
I think that’s called a float in the states. Although we usually plop the icecream into the glass after the soda. Similar effect though.
We wouldn’t be able to call it that because the word is way too easy to confuse with a floater, which is a meat pie floating in a bowl of pea soup. It is every bit as delicious as a spider though. I should get some pies and pea soup.
I would like to announce that this is not a standard Australian food, it’s exclusively a South Australian one and the rest of Australia is just as appalled as the rest of the world.
It’s not our fault that the rest of Australia is incorrect about food.
#WE HAVE SPIDERS IN AOTEAROA and they serve CUNT#im gonna steal ice cream from work this weekend and make spiders with it. i will steal the fizzy from work also#i fucking hate my boss
Living your best life I see
“average person eats 3 spiders a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average person eats 0 spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in South Australia and BADLY misinterpreted our survey question,,

On Monday my flatmate and I woke up to four electricians in our flat at 7 in the morning that our agents had kindly not thought to warn us about. And it turns out it's a bigger job than they thought so they've been here every day of the week from 6.30am rewiring everything and replacing light fixtures and it's good that it's being done but FUCK I just want it to feel like my own home again and I feel like I didn't get any chance at all to prepare for this.
am i. maybe. writing again
maybe!!!
(i have not updated this fic since 14 Apr 2024, although i have noodled with it a tiny bit in my word document in the intervening two and a bit years, so it hasn't been a COMPLETE pause. but. it's been fairly extended nonetheless) (no guarantees as to whether i'll actually manage to post anything)
maybe i
posted a new chapter ??
you wait two years and three months for an update and then two new chapters come along at once?! maybe so!
i feel like this fic always ricocheted between being funny and being fucked up and sad, and now it's more just in the fucked up and sad category, so, er, sorry about that. it might get funny again if i keep writing

People on Tumblr love sharing information about themselves no matter how asinine it is. And I'm the same way. Everybody tell me what the last thing you drank was.
ok you know what i'm gonna just ask about ratchet screwdriver
ratchet screwdriver is a game that was repeatedly banned at quaker youth events in my childhood (and thus went under many different names, ratchet screwdriver and kiss the quaker are just the two i'm personally familiar with)
the rules are as follows:
you need a big open space of some kind. one person (this has enough similarities to tag, let's call them It) sits at one end of the space, facing everyone else, who sit at the other end in two rows - in pairs, with one person behind the other.
the person who is It calls out some sort of criterion, a la "the sun shines on": something like "people with brown hair" or "people who slept in today".
if the criterion applies to them, then the person at the front of each pair has to race to reach It and kiss them on the cheek. the person behind them tries to use any method of stopping them, which usually means wrestling and grabbing their clothes. when someone kisses It on the cheek, that person becomes It and the game starts again.
also if It calls "ratchet screwdriver" then everyone has to go.
so.
did you play this game and/or have you heard of it?
yes (quaker)
yes (not a quaker)
no (quaker)
no (not a quaker)
also if you know the game by another name PLEASE tell me in the notes i love to know these things

what time is sunrise where you are atm
the sun doesn't set here at this time of year
before 4am
4-4.30am
4.30-5am
5-5.30am
5.30-6am
6-6.30am
6.30-7am
after 7am
idk if these options are wide enough but i looked up a few different places for ideas and i guess people who are the Outliers will probably trip over themselves to tell me in the tags anyway
please look it up if you're not sure rather than just guessing. also if you're at either end of the spectrum i would be interested to know whereabouts you are!
Thing that is neat (for a given value of neat): sunrise is location specific in both longitude and latitude because of Time Zones in addition to the whole solar calendar/summer v winter sense. If you are in the easternmost part of your time zone your sunrise is earlier than those living further west.
it's true. also it's interesting to look at sunrise and sunset differences. e.g.:
tralee, in co. kerry, ireland, has sunrise about 40 minutes later than where i live in the east of england. sunset is also about 40 minutes later. so, the fact that it's so much further west (about nine and a half degrees further west, if i'm reading my longitudes correctly) has just shifted the whole day by 40 minutes, but since it's at almost exactly the same latitude, the day is the same length
aberdeen, in scotland, has sunrise about 25 minutes earlier, but sunset is a whole 42 minutes later. so the whole day is over an hour longer. aberdeen is about five degrees further north and two degrees further west
even on a small scale, we can see that the north-south difference (latitude) makes a bigger difference to the length of day, even over relatively small distances, but the east-west one (longitude) has a more significant effect on when they start (both of which makes total sense)
as somebody who doesn't get up in the mornings but does stay up late at night, then, this is why the days in ireland always seem like they're much longer to me -- they're not, they're just offset, and since i don't see the later sunrise but do see the later sunset, i get to experience more of the daylight hours
