the thing is that "protagonist forced into artificial choose-who-dies dilemma" is a standard storyline in superhero media, and the correct answer, if you are the superhero, is always "push the limits of what should be possible to find a third option and save everyone." unfortunately, utrh is not really a superhero story. bruce has abruptly found himself in the wrong genre.

#listen if Bruce gets to warp the narrative then Jason should get to switch up the genre fairs fair (via @remcadll) #this is also why Jason becomes conceptually hilarious when you integrate him back into superhero world#you’re forced to contend with the fact that he’s surrounded by other people who have come back to life after dying horribly#but aren’t choosing to act Like That (via @fredricwertham) #bruce and jason are almost in completely different stories and are reacting accordingly (via @thekidthesuperkid) #probably why you so often get people arguing at complete cross-purposes wrt Bruce and Jason in UTRH as well#they're coming at it from different genre conventions/standards and expectations on themes etc. are clashing (via @umbrellacam)

#ohhh yesss this fr#im always saying that jason is pissed because of a convention that is necessary to the superhero comic conceit#hes pissed off by the fact that gotham never changes. but gotham CAN'T change for batman to exist#he pokes at the tattered edges of the genre that killed him. hes genre aware and pissed off about it#batman is doing what he's supposed to do - and utrh punishes him for it!#tbh i think its what makes jason difficult to put back into comics now and why dc keeps whiffing#how do you make a superhero comic out of someone who is righteously angry about the natural consequences of superhero storylines? by @ragnarokhound
