If someone is doing things that don't make Sense, try to understand that it is entirely possible that their brain is probably under an enormous weight and fracturing under the pressure. People who have been stabbed will sometimes talk a circle around the fact that they've been stabbed because stress and shock prevent you from recognizing the distress you are in and what you need to do to seek help for it. PTSD will do this also. You will find yourself repeatedly jamming a bag of frozen fruit into the same spot in the freezer where it doesn't fit and keeps falling, over and over and over, focused on nothing but that bag. You will decide that a beanbag chair is 10000% necessary to your life. You will lose your entire shit because you stubbed your toe on a table and that means the whole setup of your furniture is wrong. These are largely harmless examples. People under strain will also hurt themselves and others. Cornered animals bite. And it doesn't heal the bite to go "Hey, are you okay?" But it might get you to an animal that stops biting, so you can start to heal. And before you had an animal that bit, you probably had an animal that kept doing shit you didn't understand as stress signals

Feel like there's such a wealth of opportunities with the genre + medium of horror games to make players confront their ableism

Most players boot up a horror game with certain expectations for what is scary and what they'll find creepy. Odd, twitchy movements. Heavy breathing. Scarred, irregular limbs. Disorganized speech. Horror media of all kinds will exploit disabled bodies and behaviors for "creep factor" without ever asking /why/ anyone finds it creepy.

Storytellers can and should exploit audience expectations. Put in characters who wheeze when they breathe or tic sporadically, give the player a chance to react with their trained fear, and then ask them why they were afraid. These characters are people too, stuck in the same horror as the player. Make them the player's teammates and friends. Make it scary when they're gone, when the player suddenly can't hear the muttering or creak of a wheelchair. Make it scary when they walk into a room of shiny, smiling able-bodied people and the player has to wonder "Why aren't any of my friends allowed here?"

"From researching historic twill patterns in museum collections to dyeing wool with Kool-Aid, Diné (Navajo) weaver and instructor Venancio Aragón interlocks research and experimentation to expand the visual and technical vocabularies of Diné weaving. Working on the Diné upright loom, Aragón is part of a generation of Diné weavers who reinterpret ancestral knowledge through experimentation, carrying the medium forward on their own terms. As he stated in our interview with him, “I am not a purist.”

Based in Farmington, New Mexico, Aragón is trained in cultural anthropology and Native American and Indigenous studies, currently teaching at Diné College, the Navajo Nation’s tribal college. Before transitioning to full-time weaving and teaching, Aragón worked as an interpretive park ranger at the Mesa Verde, Aztec Ruins, Bandelier, and Petroglyph National Monuments, where he led tours and developed public education initiatives. He was born to the Tó’aheedlíinii (The Water Flow Together People) clan and born for the Naakaii (Mexican people). His maternal grandfather is of the Tsénahabiłnii (Sleeping Rock) clan, and his paternal grandfather is of the Naakaii (Mexican people)."
