Public outcry works. Protest works.
Keep raising hell!

God would not want this to be found
The way I left tumblr like 5 years ago because I was seeing too many Nazis but now I’m coming back to tumblr because the other platforms are now literally only Nazis.
Anyways in the timeless words of Dr. Jones himself.
fuck an "intended audience" how about we normalize engaging with new and unfamiliar art pieces on their own terms
ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the difference between pushing a product and creating a work of art
I can't be bothered to find the thread rn. But there were a bunch of people talking about it, and I agree, so I'm sharing the idea here:
We need a death of the audience; lots of media gets worse because authors are too worried about a hypothetical audience. As someone engaging with media, you need to understand that you simply might not understand all of it, and that's ok. But also I think more authors need to realize that it's ok if not everyone in the audience will fully understand everything they're doing.
As an artist myself, I do consider my audience whenever I'm making art (usually in a "oh man they're gonna love this one I can't wait to show everyone" sort of way)
But there needs to be a caveat to death of the audience I think, because with large projects like films that are distributed by very large publicly traded companies that are beholden to shareholders, the changes aren't made for the audience but made for what corporate thinks is the audience.
We don't need death of the audience, we need death of corporate. And I don't mean that in a strictly literary sense I think corporate should be beaten with broom handles until they die or submit.
Recently I had made a Tiktok post about how I wanted to find the right audience for my writing, because I actually put a lot of work into background world building, parallels, hidden messaging, etc.
A person replied saying my process didn't matter, I needed to focus on writing a story that could sell.
I tried and failed to get across to him that I was not asking how to better tailor my books to the audience, but rather how to find the people who would enjoy what I love to write. Moreover, I need an audience who believes in me as an author enough that they don't call my literal world/character building "loopholes" or mistakes. Yes, Karen, I know that character said a line that went directly against what the reader already knows. Because that character was *lying*. And that story hinged on the realization that the character has been lying. Do I need to directly write "they lied"‽
So anyway, yeah, turns out there are legitimately people who believe that artists deserve to starve if they don't put out easy consumption pieces, and writers who can't sell their work to mass audiences are worthless.
I'm tired.
Boy if THAT ain't prophetic :-/
For those who are wondering, she says in the TikTok as I'm in Canada and can still access the app:
"And remember kids, it was Trump who started all of this. And if he comes back on the 19 of January, saying that he is making sure that tiktok is not getting banned, coming from a German, this is exactly what a certain painter from 1933 did back then to get the sympathy of the masses.
"I beg you, I beg YOU, to not sympathize with him. This is all a plan, this is all, the only thing that they didn't consider was all of you marching over to Rednote. It TikTok stays because of Trump, this app will be run over by Republican propaganda. Fascist propaganda, the same as it happened back in 1933 in Germany. Our version was burning books, their version is deleting every information that is not serving their worldview.
"Please don't let history repeat itself.
"Sincerely, A German"
“nobody in miami knows how to drive” “nobody in austin knows how to drive” “nobody in chicago knows how to drive” maybe we shouldnt have cars
Maybe we should find people who are good at driving and give them really big cars, and then people can just pay a small fee to be driven around the city. Maybe in a regular loop so people always know where they'll be at certain times of the day.
But what if those really big cars were also really long and fast?
And what if they ran on electricity? But what to call them?
Fantabulous Looping Electromnibus!
I like the way you think
I started decorating my crutches.
Art/sticker credit goes to "Sentient Dirt Press".
7 million small businesses just suffered a loss of income and networking, if not the loss of their business entirely, and I'm having to explain to old white men that people are not just angry about losing the ability to scroll on a single app.
ok i need people who are happy about the tiktok ban to understand your opinion should actually have nothing to do with the fact that it’s tiktok. like you can hate tiktok. but supporting the ban is supporting censorship, full stop.
like, i fucking hate twitter. it’s a hellhole. would i celebrate if it went bankrupt and shutdown? probably! would i celebrate if the GOVERNMENT BANNED IT? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT. because the government SHOULD NOT be making decisions about how and what people are allowed to talk about on the internet. ever.
“i don’t like the precedent but im happy if it’s just tiktok” stfu and think for a second if they only ban tiktok and nothing else ever that’s still censorship
There seems to be a general malaise on most of Tumblr about TikTok getting banned in the United States.
I understand the problems, "brain rot", whatever but- A government banning a social media app that opened the world for many people is legitimately scary and upsetting. Say what you want but, there are MANY global and local issues that would not have gotten the same traction, recognition, and outreach without TikTok.
And then add to this that Meta/Facebook was one the largest lobbyists working to get TikTok banned... Like- I think folks should be more concerned about the implications of what this means, especially since the ban goes into effect the day before inauguration.
there's a really funny 3d printing controversy going on btw.
if you don't know, there's a very popular 3d printing model out there called "benchy". this is used for benchmarking your 3d printer because it's a difficult print and will help test it out.
this is so widely used that people make their own little versions of it, remixing the 3d model to make benchy look cooler and stuff. however, a new company owns the benchy license. they are sending copyright takedowns to all those who wrongfully uploaded the benchy model.
of course, this is pissing off the 3d printing community greatly. everyone loved benchy and have used it for years. so someone on reddit decided to make a new model that is designed as a 3d printing stress test. one that works a lot like benchy, and people are freely able to edit it as they please. you know what they called it?
boaty.
The end of an era, and a return home to Tumblr.
