⚠️ dark stuff (gun violence/trauma/self-harm) i think jay is fully drawn to m&m!matt because he looks like dirties!matt (also same name makes it even more insane) i think jay is very fucked up in that way and is aware of it. some kind of practice in self-harm. he can't stop visitng dirties!matt's grave. he wants to punish himself/feels responsible. perhaps he failed to protect a student.

jay is also drawn to m&m!matt's flat apathy and emotionally stunted behavior. most people get uncomfortable or deeply troubled around jay when he talks about his trauma. matt is detached (perhaps in an unhealthy way), and it's a place to hide, to be vulnerable without worrying about projection.

i don't think jay tells him. i think m&m!matt becomes morbidly fascinated with the whole situation, googles photos of dirties!matt, and either freaks out or becomes entrenched in their fucked-up dynamic. their relationship could be very messed up OR very cathartic, depending on the direction they decide to go in.
