Title: Portfolio design Outline: When trying to get some attention from the prospective employer, it’s no longer the content of your resume that counts. The way that your portfolio is presented plays a big part in helping you to secure an ideal job within the design industry. A touch of creativity and innovative thinking create that platform to “promote” your works. Task: Create a well-strategised portfolio (idea, crafting, materials and presentation) to prospective companies that you are thinking of working in. The “designed” portfolio should reflect on the kind of skill set (illustration, graphic design, advertising, etc) that you possess and suit the nature of the company. For example, if you are going to apply as a graphic designer in some publishing house, then your portfolio design must be crafted to show strong sense of editorial design (magazines, etc). In addition, your portfolio should consider only best of works (not more than 10) so be selective when you choose what works to include inside. Think also how to describe your works, especially the process. Discuss and propose to your tutors the format of your portfolio and “potential works” that you are presenting. Submission: Mock up for the portfolio Deadline: Week 14

Assignment Brief 3
Title: Social Media Self-Advocacy Outline: You have your portfolio published on Cargo and you realise that promoting yourself as a new designer in the design industry is important. You need a bit of a boost now. Social media holds such power because of its ability to act as an intermediary of such a conversation. It’s also a known fact that pictures particularly on social platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, VSCO, Vine, etc. and Facebook are more likely to be looked at or watched more than any other information. Self-promotion in this case would be very useful as you are likely to get more response from sharing images or links of images. 1. You are tasked to create impactful self-promotional posts (status updates, tweets, posts etc) on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn etc. 2. Follow up with the conversation updates; let those who are interested engage in conversation with you. And respond to their conversations. See where it takes you. Make friends. Interact with other designers/users on the web locally and from other parts of the world. 3. Use a creative mix of social networking strategies i.e. #hashtags on Twitter, Instagram and Vine with unique posts on Facebook, Tumblr, Vine etc. and publish captivating posts on your Facebook page. Sharing what you have will allow you to build an audience, credibility and a reputation, and it will work well for your own online presence and exposure. Submission: • 3 social media platforms, minimum • 300 word summary/report on your strategy with links and screenshots (Printed on A4) • PDF file of your report
