possibly a scalding hot take, but i think the big reason why so many tf fans (particularly g1 obsessed dudebros, but i've seen it across generations) are willing to excuse megatron's atrocities but then get pissy when starscream does terrible shit is because starscream is typically more androgynous/queer coded while megatron is always, always more stereotypically macho and masculine, so starscream's anger is seen as him being a petulant brat who needs to be put in his place, while megatron's rage is seen as justified.
