cultural appropriation vs cultural appreciation
some people dont understand the difference. this comparison has been on my heart for a while now, i felt lead to share it.
i understand the weight of cultural appropriation and im sick of people acting like its meaningless or “no big deal”. it is very offensive and when you experience it you feel violated.
im scared to post this because people are jerks who like to send vitriol when they feel called out, but honestly, ignorance is real and some people feel afraid of asking an honest question because they might get demonized for it.
i hope this helps you who dont understand the fuss about cultural appropriation to understand. im not trying to hurt anyone, im trying to explain why people feel violated

“I don’t know how to write love letters. But I wanted to tell you that my whole being opened for you. Since I fell in love with you everything is transformed and is full of beauty…. love is like an aroma, like a current, like rain. You know, my sky, you rain on me and I, like the earth, receive you.” - Frida Kahlo, October 1946
Friday: Mexican government puts a 9.8ft barrier around National Palace and other buildings to “protect” them ahead of a planned march to mark International Women’s Day
Saturday: Women turn it into a memorial in honor of the thousands of victims who are murdered every year in Mexico just for being women

Okay, for those curious, it’s an imitation/reproduction of local archaeological pieces made in Colima, Mexico. Some examples of the original archaeological findings:
Very good boys, all of them! (Also you can easily buy replicas like the one above online. They’re all really cool & pretty inexpensive)
Mexican Doll House complete with six dolls dating from 1890-1920. Via pathofneedles.

remember in School of Rock where the black girl was afraid to say she wanted to be a singer because she was fat and didn’t want to get laughed at but Dewey was all “who gives a shit, I’m fat too and so is aretha franklin but we’re still valuable and we rock” and then the girl felt better without having to be told that beauty comes in all sizes or some other bullshit. thats the kind of body positivity I’m looking for. tell these babies that they’re worth a damn without tying it to any other arbitrary ideals
Also like. when she asks him why he isn’t on a diet. and you just know she has heard this dumb “tip” a million times before (“just go on a diet!” “if you really apply yourself you can easily use x amount of weight!” “you just don’t want it enough!”)
& Dewey just
there’s nothing wrong! with liking food! and being hungry! you don’t need to starve yourself to fit into some bs aesthetic! eat food!
Image description
A gif of Dewey from School of Rock saying, “Because I like to eat”.
No lie, School of Rock is an incredible movie, and it’s legitimately inspiring and full of honest encouragement and support for all of the kids at every possible moment. I love this movie.
OMG THIS IS THE CUTEST THING
israel has been bombing residential towers, refugee camps, media offices and now there are reports that it plans to bomb two UN run schools in palestine. reminder that many ppl who have been rendered homeless by these bombings have found shelter in these schools. palestine's hospitals are overflowing, their top doctors are being killed in these bombings, and the pandemic is still raging while israel is blocking humanitarian aid as well. these are war crimes. this is a genocide.
PLEASE do not stop talking about Palestine and spreading information, especially from Palestinians, whether it's here or on other social medias you use more often. Palestinians themselves have said over and over again that spreading this on social media helps, I've seen some people say that it feels different this time now that the world is starting to hear their voices. and please donate if you are able to
We, as non-transfeminine lgbt people, have really really fucking failed trans women in acknowledging the weight of their oppression. We never should have let the word “TERF” get watered down this far. We never should have exposed trans women to transmisogyny for the sake of trying to seem progressive or woke.
Trans women deserve better. Stop making their existence about “pissing off TERFs.” The existence of trans women themselves should be enough for them to deserve to be loved and cared about in our community.
The fact that it took their oppressors making asses of themselves for us to give a shit shows some selfish and apathetic intentions.
Just some food for thought cuz I’ve seen a lot of non-transfems like, reblogging a trans womans selfies with “rb this to piss off a TERF.” You should be reblogging it because you think trans women are beings worthy of love and recognition, not to get some dumbass internet clout.
Protect trans women, love trans women, keep trans women safe. Don’t let yourself become one of the people exposing them to transmisogyny that they don’t need to see.
We need to do better. Trans women deserve better.
This is coming from someone who doesn’t experience transmisogyny. Transfems please feel free to correct or add on.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen a non-transfem talk about transmisogyny and transmisogynistic anti-terfs, good on you op, you’re a legit ally
