Andrew being overtly protective of Aaron but Aaron doesn’t understand where Andrew’s coming from so all of his brother’s just seems controlling and bizarre.

Aaron who’s never bothered to lock the doors because its his mom’s house so he has no right and she’d never hurt him (he insists with half a bruised face and half an armful of needleshots) and is bewildered when Andrew barricades doors and locks them with bent hairpins or stands guard outside the bathroom or locker room/expects him to stand guard.

Aaron who complains angrily when Andrew demands to know where all his seperate classrooms are and what his teachers look like and his exact schedule times so he always knows where Aaron is. Aaron who refuses to give Andrew a classroom number or gives the wrong one so Andrew snoops for his timetable. Andrew who mocks his enabler friends, who isolates him, who just won’t leave him alone.

Aaron’s been neglected for so long that Andrew’s ‘care’ quickly turns suffocating and cloying.

Aaron who loves his mom for the scant moments where she is one, and believes from watching her that love must be small bursts of interest and long stretches of leaving you be. Andrew who sees abusers and threats everywhere, and Aaron whose ability to do so has been beaten and loved bombed out of him.

Andrew who gave up on himself (his future with cass, his life planning a dangerous car crash) in favor of making sure his twin would make it. Aaron who believes, since the letter, that his hard brother hates the idea of him and therefore also gave up on him.

The twins who are too young, too jaded to be able to see past their own perspective. The tragedy of them.
