Tonight I would like to talk about two rules of popular music.

The first is The Bob Dylan Rule, which states that there is no song written by Bob Dylan which cannot be improved by having someone else sing it.

Less known but equally important is The Johnny Cash Rule, which states that there is no song Johnny Cash cannot improve by covering.

Although it cannot be proved conclusively by experiment, mathematical models suggest that if Johnny Cash were to cover “Photograph” by Nickelback, its power would exceed that of all other songs known to man.
