I maintain that the best summation of my feminist beliefs are that men and women are not fundamentally different. There are a few quantifiable differences if you average out every woman and every man, but they are not qualitative. And most of them are socially constructed, and would be fixed if we started treating men and women the same. Neither is inherently smarter, neither is inherently kinder, neither is inherently more stoic or stronger or angrier or softer. Everyone is obsessed with the differences between women and men, with finding them and creating them and distancing themselves from the "other half". It's fucked up

i will NEVER understand why bryke thought that quasi-face stealer amnesia plotline in the search comic was a good idea. never till the day i die.
because hereās the thing. iāve harped before on how fucking dumb it is to take the character whose central line in the og show was āno matter how things may seem to change, never forget who you areā and have them immediately afterwards 1. actually somehow just not leave the country they were banished from, and 2. deliberately and knowingly choose to have their own memories wiped. like ???????!!?
and yeah, that then leaves the question, when itās revealed in late s3 that she was banished and is possibly still alive: why didnāt she ever come back for her kids? why didnāt she at least seek out zuko, who was also banished and therefore at least theoretically accessible to her? why didnāt she try to intervene when she presumably learned about the agni kai and her sonās disfigurement? and if she never learned of it, how could that be without her either deliberately forgetting she had kids or choosing to actively ignore any opportunity to get information about them?
and my friends, this is where the silliest part of the whole kerfuffle is. because there was ALREADY a built-in, solid, well-explored piece of worldbuilding that could very easily have answered all of those questions in a way that wouldnāt fundamentally violate the basic foundations of her characterās nature. that piece of worldbuilding? the city of ba sing se.
As a writer, this solves so many of your problems. If Ursa ends up in ba sing se (which thereās decent reason for her to do, given that itās entirely reasonable that sheād be worried about ozai changing his mind and deciding he needs to tie up loose ends, and that the city just repelled iroh, making it about the most secure location she could get) then once she makes it inside the walls she discovers there is no war in ba sing se. suddenly, trying to get information about anything to do with the fire nation, let alone the royal family, becomes extremely difficult and dangerous. she has a plausible reason not to know, or have very little and extremely delayed awareness of whatās happening to her children.
also, the city is fucking massive and packed to the brim with refugees. even with zuko and iroh getting all about the lower and upper ring, itās completely plausible for her to have even still been there without amnesia and just. never happened to cross paths. big cities are like that. you could see a million people in a day that youāll never see again and theyāll only be a tiny fraction of all the people there that youāll never catch a glimpse of. plus, once youāre lucky enough to get in as a refugee, itās probably not so easy to leave again, especially if you want to have a chance of being able to come back.
if you really want the amnesia plot, the dai li/joo dee worldbuilding is already set up there too! all you have to do is have ursa keep trying to find out about her kids, maybe even discover zukoās banishment and try to either reach out or leave the city in response, and have the dai li catch her in a sting to crack down on citizens promoting awareness of the war.
badabing, badaboom, ursa gets joo deeād and now you have an amnesia plotline without ursa deliberately abandoning even the memory of her kids.
10/10 fantastic absolutely noting this down for a future fic where it will Make Things Worse

BTS comeback in march. I have no job and no savings. Welp. It was nice having two kidneys.
yearners we are so fucking back
So the Dear X webtoon was amazing. I didn't think I could be taken on such a rollercoaster in 60+ chapters but the author did it. Disclaimer I'm dropping spoilers for everything.
I spent the first thirty chapters feeling like I was being ragebaited because I couldn't understand how Junseo managed to be so self centered and pretentious while actively participating in Ahjin's schemes. He thought of himself as this savior who could 'fix' her because she was something 'broken'. He believed himself above everyone else and special, like after years and years of knowing her he didn't know she used him like she did anyone she deemed necessary. But the thing is he was special. Ahjin did care for him in her own way. And I frankly hate that because that was her downfall. That is what ruined Ahjin's perfect villain story. She could have had it all if she easily discarded of Junseo all the way to back in high school. He knew too much. And I understand why she'd think to use him for the pregnancy. She genuinely has a mental disorder. One that the author states outright causes impulsive judgement and lack of understanding of consequence for bad behavior. Ahjin is smart enough to work around it most of the time but ultimately she makes little mistakes here and there.
But back to the enemy here. Junseo. Evil wicked man who plays victim in his narrative as the poor boy blinded by love he did bad things for an unrepentant monster of a woman. He condemns her yet in the same breathe bemoans her a pathetic victim who would have been good if only he saved her from herself. He wrecks her life and sends her back to square one while he comes out of the drama relatively unscathed because ultimately Ahjin didn't commit any tangible crimes. And if she did he was a willing accomplice. Yet look at him walking around a free man.
The only one of Ahjin's victims I truly pity is the dude who had to go to prison for killing her Dad. But even he doesn't see that as completely Ahjin's fault. I actually think he'd have been willing to hurt Ahjin's father the same way if she had manipulated the situation to not a dangerous stalker but a dangerous father. He's just that type of person. Junseo going to him to be validated on his self righteousness campaign and being met with a call out was probably the most satisfying part of the webtoon. It was a reminder that Junseo was a villain too. At least Ahjin had an excuse for being the way she was. He just stood by until it wasn't convenient for him. Oh poor man,his precious hypothetical child couldn't be a sacrifice for Ahjin's ambition. He could watch a man go to prison for life but not his hypothetical baby. Oh please the humanity.
I hate Junseo so much. Ahjin is supposed to feel bad about let's check
1. Getting rid of her abusive father
2. Blackmailing his abusive mother.
3. Taking advantage of people to further her career in a cut throat industry
4. Her potential blackmail material getting leaked to the press.
5. Her ex who she dated for just a year killing himself because she didn't love him and broke up to further her career.
6. Not feeling guilty about the people she hurt.
Again, the only person I think she is truly accountable for is her boss who is in prison. Her ex was an unfortunate accident and I did kind of feel bad for the guy but ultimately people get used and dumped everyday. The guy clearly didn't have a good support system. Maybe in another life he moves to Jeju island and retires properly. Or maybe he lets his brother talk him into getting into a care facility and gets counseling for his grief and the mass hate he was getting from netizens.
And I know Junseo didn't know his mother was planning to sex traffic Ahjin as a child but it's so funny how he has no problem having a relationship with a woman he convinced himself is to blame for how Ahjin is.
Ultimately I wish the consequences he had to face went beyond not being allowed into the narrative of Ahjin's life anymore and looking the so called precious hypothetical child he ruined Ahjin for.
