I just noticed that Edward doesn’t change clothes in between Bella’s birthday party and the scene in the woods.
All these years I assumed that Edward slapped on a fancy suit like “gotta break Bella’s still-beating heart today. Business attire only.”
when i noticed that about the scene it was so heartbreaking to me because all i could think about was that in the book, Edward took several days to distance himself from Bella - and the bereavement he felt was so great that he just didn’t care that he hadn’t changed at all since then
i hc that he kept wearing the same suit for months while tracking Victoria and only had to replace it before going to the Volturi because he couldn’t fly in something so muddied and tattered

Like, okay here, when he’s breaking up with Bella:
we can see that he’s got on a blue button down. In the full shot, you can see that he’s wearing black-ish slacks as well.
But when he’s heading to Volterra, in Alice’s vision of him going to the Volturi, he’s wearing a similar cut button down, that always looked blue to me.
Here, when he goes to reveal himself, he’s wearing a button down with a similar cut, but a different color:
It’s greyer now, as if it spent time in the sun and got washed out. There’s a tear over the left breast that has literally always confused me. Why does he just have a random tear on his shirt?
Imagine it like this:
Edward is so distraught over leaving Bella behind that he forgoes all human tendencies, such as changing clothes everyday. The clothes become inconsequential to him, and he just wears what he has on until they literally fall apart. If Bella hadn’t come back into his life, Eddie probably would have let the clothes slowly disintegrate around him, a constant reminder of what he lost and the death he felt he almost caused. He travels the world searching for Victoria, not caring if he spends all of his days in the sunlight or in the moonlight. As his clothes fall apart, he finds himself clinging to his memory of Bella. He constantly thinks about her, obsesses over hunting the vampire that put her in danger, and tortures himself with thoughts of all the things that could happen to her.
Also, maybe this is me reading too much into it, but the Blue shirt to Grey shirt transformation could totally be a metaphor for how he felt like all the color had left his life after Bella left. As the dye leached out of his clothes, so did his sense of meaning in life.
Wait, is the tear over his left breast a kinda symbol for his heart being torn out? Maybe he clutched his chest where his heart is so much as he laid curled up that it tore a hole in his shirt. His dead cold heart that was once beating again had died as Bella was no longer there to give him life, hurting him even more to know that his existence without her would only bring him further pain.
