Anti-trans pundits keep accusing me of “redefining womanhood” so I’m going to roll with it. However, I still believe in justice for both real women and cis women. Just because a cis woman didn’t spend years thinking about her gender doesn’t mean she’s not as valid as trans women. Cis women are only being their authentic selves and deserve support too. They even sometimes go through their own gender journeys with fashion, media, and experimentation. I see no reason why we can’t support our female cisters, who are just like us despite being assigned female at birth by a doctor. Feminism means respecting all women: actual women and cis women alike.

“It’s not another Trelawney interview, is it? Because while the last one was funny it did also foretell my death three times.”

“It hilariously foretold your death three times. Death by ‘possibly gnocchi’ is perhaps the greatest death prediction of this century.”

“Laugh now, you won’t be laughing when I choke on gnocchi.”

“No but I will certainly be laughing when you die at the stroke of midnight in someone’s ‘secret passage’.”

“It’ll be your ‘secret passage’.”

“It most certainly will not. I’ll have dumped you for Lenox Campbell of the Montrose Magpies.”

Harry clasps Draco’s wrist strong enough to bruise and Draco smiles. “Fine, perhaps it will be my ‘secret passage.’ Though why you want the man you love to suffer that kind of trauma, I’m sure I can’t say.”

“I’m pretty sure I’m not gonna die with my dick up your arse. It’s a very nice arse but not to die for.”

“You take that back or you won’t be getting your present!”

“Maybe I don’t want this present. Maybe it’s another ceramic peacock figurine.”

“Fine!” Harry says, closing his eyes. Draco kisses his lips briefly, then Harry hears Draco cast a levitation spell and the sound of something heavy landing on the kitchen table.

Harry opens his eyes to see a grimy cardboard box on the table.

“It’s not another box of t shirts that say Jalapeno Clit, is it? Because you know I want to support Luna’s band, I just don’t want to do it with t shirts.”

“Open it!”

As Harry unfolds the flaps of the cardboard box the sound of meowing reaches his ears. Then he sees the plates. Pink and paisley and little gamboling kittens chasing after balls of yarn. On china.

“You got me cat plates?”

“I got you Umbridge’s entire collection of fine cat china.”

“Um,” Harry says. Draco has given Harry a lot of bad gifts before, but usually there’s some redeeming quality.

“I thought we could get drunk and smash them against the wall.”

“I knew I loved you.”

Draco drapes himself over Harry’s shoulders. “That’s more like it.”

the seriousness of fanfic writing

I have seen over and over again how serious fanfic authors are now taking their content and of course I take mine seriously as well but I’ve literally, just 2 seconds ago (?) had this epiphany, you could even call it a reminder, that at the end of the day fanfiction doesnt have much riding on it - if you’re more well known obviously you want your readers to enjoy whatever you put out and you want to get better and better but sometimes when I’m writing I wish I could just put out what I know is shitty and move on to make something better when you’re writing novels you throw away the story you don’t want to tell when you’ve hit a dead end but with myself I test what I want to write by uploading it so a story could start out amazing and end up not meeting my standards but I wont just abandon it for the readers that are invested what the whole point of these ramblings are YOU DO NOT NEED TO STRESS SO HARD ABOUT FANFICTION the whole reason I make fanfic is for fun, its suppose to be for fun that’s the whole reason its for free and I forget that pretty often but hopefully this will also be a reminder for people who are like me

I totally agree with this sentiment. The moment it doesn’t become fun, you have to pause to figure out how to make it something that you enjoy doing, or stop writing the story.

Sure, there are times where my fics are kicking me in the butt because the plot isn’t working like I had thought (like right now!). There are times I write fics like it is my job. I get quite stressed when I’m trying to wrap up a long fic, mainly because I want to finish it so I can start posting.

Usually a short break from writing is what I need to get the creative juices flowing again, and it becomes an enjoyable experience again.

This! Plus, I think the whole being kicked in the butt by plots and scenes that refuse to work is part of the fun? It’s what makes it challenging, like a puzzle that you have to solve, except half the pieces are born in your imagination. It’s fun! The feeling of finally getting it right is amazing and so worth it!

But there’s a big difference between battling the challenges that naturally come with writing, and holding yourself to impossibly high standards about quality. Sometimes you just need to get it done, post it, and move on to fight a new battle 😁
