shane and ilya’s girls: a fic rec list (in progress)

i like reading about shane denying that ilya could feel anything for him because of his insecurities about ilya’s bisexuality. lots of fics explore this in a way that’s really nuanced and true to character. heed the tags, but due to the nature of the premise, all of these fics flirt in some way with misogyny and/or canon-typical biphobia.

1. cortisol, oxytocin, vasopressin by rhodenia

Shane meets with one of Rose’s friends- a ballet dancer who hooked up with Ilya during the playoff season where Boston won the cup. She shares what happened during that hookup (including Ilya staring longingly at Jane’s texts!), and she becomes a representation of the women Ilya could have in his head. The angst, the pining, all of it is very delicious.

2. all my perversions by @probablily

Shane watches this sex tape over and over again, trying to figure out if Ilya treats him like a hookup, treats his girls the way he treats Shane. I love that he’s watching it sitting right next to Hayden, #ourShane.

3. bird with a magnet by @ireverents

So visceral, and ties in Shane’s past experiences in a way that is gutting. Shane sees a lipstick stain on Ilya’s sofa and spirals. He buys a skirt and keeps it hidden for seven years like a monster under his bed. It’s a looming specter over every one of their interactions- Ilya, do you want me to be a girl? And then you get the catharsis in that last sex scene, and it’s unreal. Must-read!!!

That scene where Shane just snaps and is like “I’m not letting you cum in me.” because he can’t risk it. He wants to give Ilya something his girls can’t, but what would that say about him? The double ko.

ilya’s body language is so fun to watch he’s always slinking and sidling about like a big cat. very sinuous and sly. if pressed to choose a favourite move i would say i’m partial to the way he saunters (“mr. real estate” <- imo one of his best saunters) and of course his self-assured swagger when he yells “ROLL OUT!” although having said that surly sullen ilya is very good also. i like it when he sulks and slouches. this has been my ilya s-word manifesto. thank you everyone for coming

belated shoutout to skulking, shrugging, stalking, strutting, slumping, striding, smirking, sashaying, sneaking around, shying away, stealing glances, and, of course, slutting it up

if s2 was up to me i would 100% include shane’s centre ice fantasy and i’d set it up like. ottawa vs montreal. they’re skating up for the face off. the viewer thinks it’s a regular game. there’s a whole crowd, two teams, the referees, etc. then they look at each other and they’re both dropping their helmets glove-drop style and making out and desperately taking off each other’s gear and with every layer that comes off there’s another ‘background layer’ lost, like the teams disappear, the crowd noise fades out, etc. the last thing to go is the commentary. the whole thing is narrated like ‘there appears to be a delay to the face off as shane hollander adjusts his helmet and- oh. oh wow. well. that’s unexpected folks. i did not think this game would have many surprises for us but here we are. this will delay the puck drop for sure. i don’t recall this ever happening on- oh good god let’s leave them to it we can’t show that on the broadcast’

and they fuck with ilya standing and holding shane with shane’s legs around his waist (idc that this is not feasible it’s shane’s dream and also mine). scene ends with shane all moaning and Lost In The Sauce with his head tipped back and his back arching and ilya’s mouth on his neck. followed by a hard cut to him in the same position but half asleep in bed like in the book and ilya waking up beside him like 🫪🥵
