Finally caved and make a Fallout blog. Here resides my Sole Survivor Gale (and possibly my fallout 76 gal Nancy?) and art of rp shenanigans! side blog for @Jeweljessec and @Jeweljessec-artblog!
Welcome! This sideblog is a place I dump stuff from an rp I’m doing with @spindlly and miscellaneous fallout 76 art <3 Here’s a quick rundown on recurring characters/tags-
Gale: My Fo4 Paragon Minuteman/Railroad Sole oc. She has an offshoot AU where she’s Director in #instituteau.
#Galeposting: Stuff I feel like she would post here on tumblr.com, or just stuff that fits her/her aesthetic
#nick x sole x deacon: What it says on the tin, really. Polycule go brr. Also see #nick x sole, #deacon/nick, ect
#galeswap au: brainrot mush of me going “hey, what if Institute Gale and Regular Gale accidentally switched universes for a few days?”
#Nancy: my fallout 76 character/reclaimer!
I might post little writing drabbles of Gale’s memories in the future, but for now its mostly just art. Thanks for stopping by! ^-^
why are people so against negative character development? characters don’t need to improve and become better people they can get worse and make mistakes and end up in a worse state than when they began and it’s just as interesting and entertaining as characters developing positively
sorry if you don't want to do any more dog related prompts feel free to skip this one if so
how do you think the companions would react to a sole survivor who keeps dogmeat at their heels 24/7? when asked, the answer is that it's for "safety, alertness, and comfort" and they always talk to him and seem closer to him than anyone else. i've always had an easier time dealing with animals than people and if i could i'd have a dog with me all day every day!
I love doing the dog asks, I just hope i am getting them right, so send any you want and I'll always do them if I am up to it.
The companions react to: Sole who is never without Dogmeat.
Cait
Cait isn't at all shocked that Sole is more trusting of dogs than humans. She isn't exactly a Dr Dolittle but she would take being in a room with three dogs over three people most days.
She never asks Sole why. Either she didn't care at the beginning or they are close enough friends that Cait assumes she can figure out why herself.
The only question she does posit is why Sole chose such a damn weird name for the dog.
Codsworth
With what Sole has been through: Codsworth is glad they are at least taking measures to soothe themself. A lot of people would shut down if they went through what Sole has been through so if Dogmeat helps Sole feel safer then he's honesty happy beyond words.
Granted: he would've had a preference for a cuter breed. One that doesn't shed as much or get hair on the couch. But those aren't really concerns in the commonwealth these days. The couch is blissfully free of shed hair because it was obliterated in a nuclear blast.
Deacon
Deacon never lets his goes guard down. He also rarely works with anyone. He gets quite lonely like that, with old guilts and sins on his back, so when he sees Sole with Dogmeat he wonders why he never thought of something like that.
The answer is he has. He decided again getting a dog because he can't keep a houseplant alive. And a dog is like a really complicated house plant that can move.
Dogmeat
Dogmeat loves it. He likes getting to explore with Sole and doesn't really care why they keep him so close. He just is happy they do.
If Sole asks him his thoughts on it: he will lick them in the face.
John Hancock
Hancock isn't one to judge. If Sole prefers a dogs company then he's not going to gripe over it at all. He can only imagine what they've been through, and all in all this is a rather endearing way of finding comfort through it all.
Upon hearing Sole's reason for keeping Dogmeat close: he will see what he can do to help Sole relax a bit. The commonwealth isn't exactly a place to let your guard down but being so wary constantly can't be good for anyone.
He opts to do it by suggesting they play fetch with Dogmeat sometime. Something where Sole isn't hunting someone down or delving into dead vaults. Just them, Dogmeat, Hancock, and a tennis ball that has somehow survived two-hundred-and-ten years.
Nick Valentine
Nick knows the value of always having someone at your side. Ellie has been his rock through more things then he cares to recount. Not that he's calling Ellie a dog.
He's seen Dogmeat serve Sole well in hunting Kellog down, he's seen Sole made a toy of by their own son, he's seen Dogmeat follow Sole across the commonwealth loyally.
Nick is surprised Sole even humours anyone in the commonwealth given what they've been through. So if this is what puts them at ease then more power to them.
Paladin Danse
Canines aren't allowed aboard the prydwen. Even if they are wholly preferable to Scribe Neriah's molerats. This may prove something that Danse will butt heads with Sole over when Maxson summons them.
Danse himself holds no animosity towards Dogmeat though. He may sound abrasive at times when talking to Dogmeat but that is more a product of a tough exterior.
Piper Wright
Piper loves dogs. She likes the company and their inquisitive nature. Sometimes she envies their sense of smell in tracking things down. Give her five minutes to remember that the commonwealth doesn't exactly smell nice and her envy is gone though.
As for when she hears Sole's reasoning? She's not surprised. Scary dog privilege still goes a long way, even if Dogmeat isn't that scary, so if it makes Sole feel safer then what's the harm.
She will ask if Sole is alright for her to pet Dogmeat though.
Robert MacCready
MacCready is neutral leaning positive. He isn't a huge dog man but he has a soft spot for Dogmeat. And he can empathise with Sole's rationale in keeping Dogmeat close. It's not like a dog can stab you in the back.
He will wonder what exactly drove Sole to chose Dogmeat, and dogs in general, over humans. Not that humans are exactly earning of trust but normally those who become distrustful of other humans in the commonwealth would rather turn hostile. Maccready isn't complaining though. He's grateful Sole found a way to be able to hang out.
X6-88
X6-88 wouldn't call himself a dog person. He also wouldn't call himself a person. I would call him an utter lemon. Either way he doesn't seem to care.
He is entirely ambivalent to Dogmeat. He doesn't pet or acknowledge the hound beyond nudging Dogmeat away with his foot when Dogmeat cuddles up to him.
GOD, do I miss my beloved toaster man❤️, I haven't drawn him in a while, specially on digital. I would love to make him a comic, but I already have too many projects going on.
Every time I go into the Institute for the first time, even if I originally intend on working with the Institute for at least a few quests, I always end up deciding to work against the Institute entirely by the end of Institutionalized. (And a lot of the time after the incredibly manipulative initial conversation with Father/Shaun)
Yesterday was the first time I fully realized why. From the second I stepped into the elevator, while Father was yapping on about how amazing the Institute is over the speakers, until the moment I left the Institute, it felt like I was a visitor being allowed access to look around a cult compound.
From the dehumanizing way the people inside the Institute talk about "surface dwellers" to their horrendous experiments. The way they glorify Father. The FEV lab and the terminals and holotapes you find in there. Hell, there's literally a moment where you can witness Dr. Volkert giving a synth an experimental injection. The synth asks if it will hurt and Volkert just dismissively goes, "Well, I guess that's your job to find out."
And don't get me started on the terminals and holotapes about the synth child. Or the very existence of the SRB.
It reminds me of those cheerful and "loving" cult compounds in documentaries and horror movies. There's a foreboding feeling that sits in my chest while there. A feeling that swells with each Department Head I meet, with each conversation I overhear.
Until finally, I have Sole draw their gun and kill Justin Ayo. (Though his caustic personality does factor in there. )
TLDR; The Institute is a cult or at least feels like one.
more f!sole survivors (assuming you're following rough canon lore) need to be chubbier, at least early-game. stretch marks, heavy chests, maybe still-healing C-section scars. these women are recently postpartum, damn it.
not to even get into postpartum depression/psychosis in the Wasteland....
preston is probably my favourite companion to romance because you can really tell that sole changed his life and i think its so sweet :)
at the start of our story, preston is so lost, unmotivated and is fighting so hard to keep others alive instead of himself. then, when he meets sole, things start to change for the better because he sees the good that comes from the wasteland through soles determination!
and, as you progress with preston, you can see him becoming more motivated and passionate because now he has someone who sees the potential of the minutemen and things start to look up to him.
sole, to preston, is like a saving grace and i love how through all the work and time you spend together, he thinks youre the best thing to happen to him.
by the time you romance him, he finally feels like he has something to live for and sees a future for himself and those around him where they can thrive in the wasteland despite it all!!
in summary, preston is my number 1 wife and i love him so much
I find it funny how fusion cores in Fallout 4 can power whole buildings for 200+ years only last a few in-game hours in power armor. I’m sure they were only looking at it as a gameplay mechanic but Bethesda accidentally made a really good point in how wasteful military campaigns can be. Instead of giving the people of the Commonwealth power, the Brotherhood just sucks them dry of resources while appointing themselves as the wasteland’s police.
