i tried to find the original post but it’s either private or deleted. i can’t find generic naem either.
I'm going to be honest I think the notion that there is a clear-cut list delineating what is and isn't a romantic or platonic behavior that is universal to every culture, time and unique life experience is a complete load of shit.
one thing i noticed about american sitcoms is that they make it seem like YOU HAVE TO attend these high school reunions and relive your trauma again and again
when men are like “women need to be nicer and more complimentary to men” i CRINGE! why don’t MEN get more complimentary to men. start telling your friends you want to fuck them. don’t make women pick up YOUR slack
Humans are animals and most of our enclosures are wildly inappropriate for our needs as a species.
The fun part about developing seasonal allergies in your late 30s is you get to ask the question:
Is this result of aging or Global Warming?
Or a secret third thing? (Which might just be "both.")
shout out to everyone who has any sort of maintenance job whether it's a custodian or a mechanic or a furnace repair person or a pool cleaner or a housekeeper or anything where someone shows up or I go to you, and my shit is taken care of.
big appreciation for the maintenance people
Huge fan of when I have a problem that I have no idea how to handle (or no time/tools/physical strength to handle) and I call A Guy who knows how to handle it and they come and handle it for me.
Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.
Hey. Hey. Tumblr. Ides of March ppl. We can do this
therapy should just be One Session where they just slough off all the Goo and then you’re done. Will someone please take my Goo
seeing a lot of people in the tags go holy shit the strength required to hold those poses, wow she must be bruised--I'm here to tell you that its even more remarkable than you think, because in every single one of those falls, with the exception of into the foam pits, she's rolling into that fall. She does it in such a way it looks stiff but that is most definitely a roll. That second clip she rolls off balance to land her butt onto the angle mat, which slows her fall enough to be able to catch herself easily on her bent arm and one leg, and then she comes to rest as the three point of arm and both legs.
Later in the fifth clip, she falls over onto her back into a stack of mats, which breaks the fall and turns it into a roll onto the arm prepared for it and still one leg, then continues the roll onto the other arm that's already crooked for it and comes to a stop on her back.
The sixth one STARTS OFF as a spin. I could go on from here; every single clip is a roll to break her fall.
This is strength, sure, but more than that is the precision of how exactly to break that fall and still have it look natural and toy like. She could become a stunt double with that kind of control.
my parents never came to anything I did.
I have so many memories about this, but one in particular: when I was away at camp with 89 other teenagers, and at the one-month mark the post was collected distributed to all the dorms. 89 other children tore open their boxes and, shovelling handfuls of sweets their parents had sent them into their mouths, read pages-long letters and handed around photos of their brothers and sisters.
I didn't. I didn't get anything, I sat on my empty bed watching them. The teachers had to call my parents and ask if perhaps the post had gone missing...? but my parents were surprised they were required to interact with me while I was away.
Well, today, my 3-year-old daughter had a fun-run. The childcare centre invited parents to come but stressed that if we weren't able to, it was alright. There was no fucking way I wasn't going. My daughter wasn't going to be the only child there without a parent watching.
I got time off work and stood there in the beating sun and plastered in greasy sunscreen waiting to see my little girl emerge from inside the centre and stand on the track.
When she did, her little eyes searched through the crowd person-by-person for me, and absolutely lit up like the sun when she spotted me.
Mine filled with tears as I waved at her and cheered.
I'm breaking the cycle.
People have written a lot of touchy-feely pieces on this subject but I thought I’d get right to the heart of the matter
[The artist, putting a simple cake next to a much fancier one: “Aw man, that guy’s cake is way better than mine.” The Audience, gleefully holding up a knife and fork “HOLY SHIT! TWO CAKES!”]

“Holy shit two cakes,” I mutter to myself as I do fucking anything these days, this post was a godsend
I know it’s not July yet, but guys, happy 10 years of “two cakes”. This post on god has been a godsend not only as a writer myself but as a friend of artists and writers who I love to encourage. This was legitimately a game-changer.
OP thank you so much for this.
I kept forgetting my nighttime antidepressant so I set an alarm where the sound was a recording of me saying "HEY. TAKE YOUR FUCKING PILL" because I thought it would be funny. It was funny about three times, and then it started making me mad and I'd dismiss it right away to make it stop. So I handed my phone to my partner, who made another recording sweetly saying "Okay Shira, it's time to take your medication" and now I don't get mad anymore and I take my pill. The "compassion over punishment" camp has gotta get something wrong one of these days
I don’t walk into dr offices expecting people to recognize me, but then again I came to my second pt appointment at this place ever and all I’ve said is “Hi” to two people and I’m in without having to do or say anything else
y’know, when I first posted that I thought it was because of my fabulously stylish hat
now I think it’s because I’m one of the only under 25 people coming here
functionally suicidal character saying “I would die for you” to their significant other and its like. I get the sentiment, honey, but if a hot dog vendor told me he’d sell hot dogs for me, I wouldn’t feel very moved now would I
Now a functionally suicidal character saying “I will live for you”. Now that’s a dynamic I can sink my teeth into.
now how about a functionally suicidal character saying "I will sell hot dogs for you"
Hotdog vender lays down their life to protect their suicidal partner, who then takes over the hotdog stand to carry on their memory...
Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
I want you to understand this. I NEED you to understand this. My mother read me the hobbit as bedtime story, and I started pushing myself to read before pre-school so I could in fact read the hobbit for myself instead of having to wait for bedtime.
I didn't do so right away but jesus wept I PUSHED myself to learn to read SPECIFICALLY so I could read The Hobbit! It is, in fact, a children's story! And children only see page count as 'there is a lot of this fun story to read!'
Like... come on man, 310 pages isn't even what I would've considered a particularly long book as a kid.
I don't understand why they're freaked out by book length. A kid can read one 300-page book or six 50-page books and it's the same amount of reading. Scholastic's bread and butter has traditionally been long, LONG series of relatively short children's books; it's known that bookworm kids like to read a lot. Nobody blinks an eye at a kid reading all sixty-ish Animorphs books or a bookshelf's worth of Goosebumps or The Babysitter's Club. But if the pages are stuck together into thicker books then suddenly that's difficult for a kid? 300 pages isn't even all that big for children's fantasy.
