3 value portrait studies

slowly starting to introduce another value into my portrait studies. i'm getting the hang of recognizing shapes and using them to draw the portraits. having a lot of fun painting these which is huge!! bc i hated painting!!

kinda changed the game for me. reducing everything in an image to just black and white really helped train my eye to see just the essentials. will be doing these a LOT more.

value background study

i actually really enjoyed doing this study. started by blocking out the darkest values and move upwards. also tried keeping the shapes as big as possible and progressively added detail as values got lighter.

but how do i translate this to colors...

armor studies

i'm starting to realize that i am really inexperienced at painting. there is so much more to explore in regards to values, shapes and COLORS (god, colors...)

feeling both overwhelmed and excited to learn more. i love art!! but its a lot...

been making some sketches of a feudal Japan inspired LoZ AU. some basic brainrot lore behind the sketches:

zelda was sent away at birth by the hyrulian emperor due to the impending threat of war. the triforce of wisdom imbedded itself into zelda, causing her to have visions of the future. she grew up in a farming village with impa as her caretaker.

link is the son of a blacksmith and zelda's childhood friend. i thought it'd be a good callback to A Link to the Past. was thinking it would ALSO be sick to have him forge his OWN master sword using the triforce of courage.

ganon's OG pig design returns with the mask. i loved how sympathetic he was in Windwaker, so the idea of him becoming a warmonger to help his people appealed to me. ultimately, i think ganon would give into his desire for power and forget his initial goal of saving his region.
