Ford calling himself a recovering cipherholic is wild on so many levels, but it also provides a very interesting metaphorical context for the determination he carries in the main canon to defeat Bill, to not let him in, to never believe even a small piece of his lies. To never give a single solitary inch.
It's not because the love is gone. It's that Ford knows that even a little inch being allowed through the door could have him falling off that wagon.
Allowing himself to feel one shred of affection, of the all consuming devotion that still dwells inside him, would be akin to a recovering alcoholic allowing themselves just one drink. Dangerous, and something that has the potential to undo the entire process of recovery.
Ford doesn't trust himself not to go back to being Bill Cipher's devoted little priest who sold his soul for nothing but his muse's affection, if he lets himself feel anything towards Bill but hate and a desire to stop him. Yes he is stubborn but (at least in his own mind) he has to be. Because even after everything, he still can't help wanting to love and worship Bill Cipher.
Ok, Have you in real life ever seen a bathroom that had its light switch Outside of the bathroom. Not like one of those fancy giant bathrooms where the toilet is in its own little room, but a normal sized bathroom where you could be in there doing your thing and someone Outside could just turn the light off on you?
This is so normal to me
Yeah but it's weird
Maybe? normal though.
Maybe? weird though.
No but I'm pro this being a thing
no and what the fuck why would that be a thing
Other
Button.

In Real life. not in a videogame or movie because I've Only seen it in videogames and a friend has spotted it in a movie.
I've seen a lot of billford opinions like "we wouldn't want them to ever actually get back together" and that's cool, I respect it, I do. But I'm also That Freak who absolutely wants them to get back together and also I'd want it to be just as messy as the divorce.
Seriously though, there's always this thing in certain ships where it's like... Listen do I know why you (Ford) want your man (Bill)? Not really! I mean yes he's a very charismatic triangle and also a silly little guy, but you really adore this man (triangle)? You worship him?? Like should Ford want Bill? Definitely not! Does he want Bill... Unfortunately??? Yes?????
(And I'm very happy he does because omg the dynamic is crunchy and good and toxic and beautiful and tragic and soft and terrific and horrible and mutual and...)
I mean yeah Cipherdemption would be a must I guess, because Ford had to be all heroic and choose protecting the world and his family over being cool and fun and getting his man (triangle), but like. I have no qualms with that happening.
The best way I can describe the experience of reading the Book of Bill is like... You're third-wheeling a divorce between two of the most stubborn people (?) in existence while they continuously project their own issues onto you and each other while coming not even like 1% closer to actual honest communication.
10/10 experience. would recommend.
(Also "There's a triangle, I think he's had a lot to drink, he ordered "one Sixer, please."" is just. a top tier sentence. both in and out of context. one of the sentences ever.)

Propaganda below the cut:
Rose Tico:
They harassed the actress off of social media and made burning action figures of her a spectator sport, an incredibly popular YouTuber turned calling fat and ugly into a running gag.
She’s a nice girl who just wants to help and has a lot of anger in her heart because poor people like her are treated like crap!
I mean… we were all there, right? People threw such a big fit about her mere existence that it actually genuinely changed the American political landscape for the worse (and got her basically written out of the next movie)
She literally didn't do anything wrong. Not in an "my favorite character can do no wrong" kind of way, I just mean it's been almost ten years and I still don't know what those dudes were actually mad about. And she's cute and nice and I liked her!
The shit that happened with rose pisses me off beyond belief to this day actually and I don't even gaf about star wars anymore. The fact that not only did she get such a misogynistic and racist backlash to the point of people harassing her actress but that the films themselves capitulated to this and she was completely absent in the next film. Makes me see red fr
Seen as a threat to the finnpoe slash shippers so ofc they lashed out
She was set up like she'd be part of the main crew! She could've been such a fun addition! But fanboys threw a massive tantrum over her character and harassed her actress to the point that Disney caved and drastically reduced her role in the final movie. Disney capitulating to the complaints about her absolutely boils my blood - I don't want to make this too much about the harassment the actress faced, since bringing real people into it isn't fair to the other girl, but it really felt like Disney ended up indirectly endorsing the bullying she received by both not pushing back against it and giving them what they wanted.
Dawn Summers:
Fandom punishes her for the crime of being a 14 year old girl
often thought of as annoying and a bad addition to the show for just being a teen girl going through it
love you dawnie <33 i did hate you on my first watch as a teen girl i was too close to the subject but now i love you
People hate her because she is “annoying” read: Teenage Girl
Hilarious and smart. She handles learning she is a Key to open a magic portal remarkably well and loves so deeply. <3
It makes me deeply uncomfortable seeing a bunch of middle aged people mostly men go on and on about how annoying this teenage girl was. Saying they would kick her out of their house because she had feelings about losing every one of her caregivers and being emotionally neglected. Like I really hope these people don’t have children. It’s honestly amazing that girl wasn’t more screwed up and acting out more. Like it’s been over 20 years and people will not get over her yelling get out. It also just comes off as so weird because I guarantee these people were far more annoying than her as a teen. It’s my leading theory to why people hate her so much.
Dawn Summers is a character where I kept waiting and waiting for it to become clear why people hated her so much, and it literally never came. There is one (1) episode in which I find her unlikable and it's a season 6 episode where she's really fucking going through it, like everyone else that season. A guy I know has called her his least favourite character in fiction and I'm standing here like SHE DID LITERALLY NOTHING WRONG!!! SHE WAS A TEENAGER WITH NO POWERS HAVING TO DEAL WITH MONSTERS EVERY WEEK!!!!!!! Like I would react poorly too if I learned I was retconned into existence as a key and all my memories are fake and then my sister sacrificed herself so I could live a normal life and also there are vampires everywhere. Dawn Summers all the way baby.
Dawn Summers is the literal definition of a teenage girl who was/is hated because she’s a teenage girl. She isn’t even like a lot of other characters on here where she’s genuinely really flawed but it can be hard to have a nuanced discussion about her because of fandom misogyny she’s just a teenage girl.
Too the people who think she’s annoying I have news you were just as “annoying” at 14 and you probably would have been more annoying going through everything she went through.
basically the best thing any character can do is decide they don't want to be afraid anymore - in fact they never want to be afraid of anything ever again - and take action so drastic they fail to realise that this too is a decision motivated by fear. or to account for the Consequences of that.
[with obvious perverted intent] hey. don't you want to release the safety catches on that character. don't you want to flip off all the switches holding them back and let the control rods go.
the biggest problem of angel is nobody should start a spin off of another show saying what if there were less women here you should be doing the spin off for more women
The Odyssey but retold as a low-stakes modern adventure of one guy out with his girlfriend leaving the bar with his buddies to do just one (1) simple thing real quick, it'll take like 15 minutes tops, he'll be right back, but then some bullshit happens and the trip keeps getting more complicated as more bullshit keeps happening while he just tries to get back to the bar because he promised his girlfriend that he'd get back and he knows that she's still there because she told him she'd wait there.
And by the time he finally gets back it's almost 3 am and the bar is about to close while she's sitting there stone cold sober, surrounded by 5 drunk guys unsuccessfully trying to convince her to give up on waiting for him and go home with one of them instead. And the guy shows up to proceed to beat the shit out of them before explaining himself to her like hey sorry bullshit kept happening, my phone fell into a storm drain and my wallet got stolen when I was trying to find someone who'd borrow me a phone so I could call and
His girlfriend had been fending off the 5 drunk guys for most of the evening by explaining that even if she was going to ditch her boyfriend, she can't possibly leave without finishing her beer, which she is keeping perpetually full via careful sleight of hand where she's just pouring it back and forth into and out of the pitcher.
However the drunk guys are also drinking, and eventually she can't afford to buy another pitcher for the table so she can't keep up the ever-full beer glass trick. At this point she has to resort to setting up the pool trick shot that she's never seen anyone but her boyfriend pull off, and says she'll leave with whoever manages the shot first.
That buys her another hour or so and then, finally, her boyfriend makes it back. He looks like shit, hair down and just a mess, he's wearing an entirely different jacket that he got from an alley, and barely recognizable—especially to 5 guys who've been drunk for hours now. He lurks for a minute, finds out what's going on, and proceeds to pull off the trick shot first try. Throws the jacket off, fixes his hair with a hair tie his girlfriend lends him, finally looks like himself again, and THEN beats the shit out of them with the pool cue.
