John Lennon's lyrics are inspired by real events he read in the paper. A 41 piece orchestra played on this song. The orchestra was told to dress formally, but upon arriving at the session they were presented with party dress ups such as, false noses, party hats and gorilla paw gloves. McCartney contributed the line 'I'd love to turn you on.' It was a drug reference, but the BBC banned it because of another section 'Found my way upstairs and had a smoke. Someone spoke and I went into a dream.' The final chord was created with all Beatles and producer George Martin banging keys on 3 pianos simultaneously. The studio's air conditioners can be heard toward the end of the song.

This is probably my fave song on Sgt. Pepper's!!

Yesterday (Live from Studio 50, New York) - The Beatles 1965

The tune for Yesterday came to Paul McCartney in a dream. He had to check with George Martin that he hadn't dreamt of tune that already existed. None of the other Beatles are on the track and since Paul was the only who wrote it, they debated just crediting him but decided against it. Yesterday holds the record for most covered song according to the Guinness Book of Records.

John Lennon hated the song, calling it "3 minutes of contradictions and meaningless juxtapositions." This promo video was banned from streaming by the BBC as Paul was obviously lip-syncing, which The British Musician's Union had a rule against. The ending of the song "Hela, hey, aloha", was improvised in the studio and the part that plays when credits roll in the Magical Mystery Tour film.

Imagine - John Lennon 1971

Imagine was inspired Yoko Ono's poetry, specifically in her 1964 book "Grapefruit". On the album "Imagine" George Harrison plays on multiple tracks, including the song "How Do You Sleep?" which takes a dig at Paul McCartney. In 2000, former Wham! member George Micheal paid 2 million dollars for the Steinway upright piano Imagine was written on. The piano now tours the country, a symbol of John Lennon's message.

Strawberry Fields Forever - Magical Mystery Tour: The Beatles 1967

John's Aunt did not like John going over to the Strawberry Field Salvation home, as it was practically a orphanage, worried it would lead him astray. John, however, connected with the kids at the home, having lost his parents young as well. During arguments between John and his Aunt over his visits, John would often reply "What are they going to do, hang me?" thus the lyric "Nothing to get hung up about."

The video for Strawberry Fields Forever is a personal favourite, there is something eerie and mysterious about it. But not in a scary way if that makes sense. That's what I like about the video, it's unexplainable.
