Daily Featured Flag #21: New Mexico, United States

Today's daily featured flag for 17 July 2026 is the flag of the United States state of New Mexico. This flag has been glazed to no end for the best several decades, but it's for good reason. The yellow, desert-hued background with the iconic deep red Zia sun symbol in the center. Four pairs of four lines, four times of day, four directions, four cardinal directions, four seasons in a year. I don't think I have to say much more... this flag speaks for itself.

Daily Featured Flag #20: San Marino

Today's daily featured flag for 16 July, 2026 is the flag of the Most Serene Republic of San Marino. San Marino is the oldest continuously operating country in the world, founded in the year 301- yes, three hundred and one- granted independence by the pre-split, pre-fall, pre-Constantine, pre-Christianity Roman EMPIRE. And it still exists in the year 2026... honestly impressive. What's more impressive is that San Marino has a very similar system to the ancient Roman Republic's consular system, electing two captains regent every sixth months, being one of only between two and five diarchies left in the world. Everything about this strange little country is so badass for some reason that I cannot explain. I'll be completely honest, this flag isn't conventionally amazing. It has a bicolor with a complicated seal in the center... but I can't *not* love this flag and I do not know why.

Daily Featured Flag #19: Utah, United States

Today's daily featured flag for 15 July, 2026 is the flag of the U.S. state of Utah. This flag was only adopted in 2024, replacing the much older and much uglier previous design. A dark blue sky, a hexagon surrounding a beehive and a star, a white mountain range, and red rocks beneath. As a major hexagon enthusiast myself, this bodacious banner fills me with nothing except joy. The colors are chosen well- this is literally the first time I've seen a dark yellow that didn't look like vomit.

Daily Featured Flag #18: Non-Binary Pride Flag

Today's daily featured flag for 14 July, 2026 is the non-binary flag. Like a few days ago, I usually pick the flags of political entities like towns and nation-states, but I've long thought this is one of the best stripe-based flag designs I've ever seen. The colors may seem awkward to some, but the complimentary yellow-purple and white-black combination works almost too well in my opinion. Today is also International Non-Binary People's Day, but I genuinely was already going to pick this flag anyway without that factor... funny coincidence, eh?

Daily Featured Flag #17: Montenegro

Today's daily featured flag for 13 July, 2026 is the flag of Montenegro. Now, I'm going to be honest here. I've been feeling recently that choosing independence days every day is a bit lazy, so since today is Delaware Day, I tried to find a nice flag of a city or county in Delaware. There is literally not a single good flag in Delaware, so I poked around and remembered this spunky little South Slavic nation. Montenegro's flag is both complex and simple. It's a rectangle with a hilariously long aspect ratio with a red field and a gold border. A good base design, and then a golden double-headed eagle with a crown, an imperial orb, and a whole lot of other junk. Those two elements are particularly interesting because Montenegro hasn't had an independent monarchy in well over a century... but I'm going to be honest, this flag works in a so-busy-it's-beautiful way. This is European Maryland.

Daily Featured Flag #16: Kiribati

Today's daily featured flag for 12 July, 2026 is the flag of the Republic of Kiribati. (Pronounced keer-ih-BAHS.) To be perfectly honest, this flag could use some work. It's a bit overcomplicated and the eye on the bird look just plain silly... but this flag is extremely charming. The aspect ratio and the overcomplicated sun rays are cute, and the waves are pleasant to a freaky degree. The black borders surrounding the yellow elements are also a choice, but it's hard not to love this flag. Look at it. It's adorable.

Daily Featured Flag #15: 7-Eleven Convenience Store

Today's daily featured flag for 11 July, 2026 is the flag of the Incorporated Convenience Store Chain of 7-Eleven. That's right folks, this one might seem a bit unconventional, but looking at an MDY calendar reveals why I've chosen this flag today. For once, there was a land of laziness and entitlement, a land granted so much yet a land which had done so little. There in that land lay hundreds of millions people, mostly pale-skinned and elderly, with a spice tolerance not exceeding the capsaicin of mayonnaise. Each year, on the eleventh of July, a mass horde of these people would storm the convenience store known as 7-Eleven to partake in an ancient tradition of feasting upon a mythical beverage known only as a Slurpee. This beverage was available year round at low cost, but only on the eleventh day of the seventh month was the beverage free- and the people of this land loved free things.

In all seriousness, I saw this design about a week ago and it hasn't left my head since. Of course, I didn't make this design. All credit goes to a deleted account on Reddit from an eight-year-old r/vexillology post. Daily Featured Flag #14: The Bahamas

Today's daily featured flag is the flag of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. It's really been two weeks already, huh? Time flies when you're having flags. Anyhow, the flag of The Bahamas is a teal-gold-teal tricolor with a Czech-esque black triangle on the hoist. I've always loved this flag for its simplicity, and its use of teal, aka turquoise. Also, it's very long. I like unconventional aspect ratios on flags, and this one certainly gives the vibes of a very inexperienced person with a very large amount of money wanting the best gaming monitor possible. Today is also The Bahamas' independence day, marking 53 years since 10 July, 1973 when they gained their sovereignty from the British Empire.

Daily Featured Flag #13: Argentina

Today's daily featured flag is the flag of the Argentine Republic. I've picked this flag for today for multiple reasons. For one, I'm in a contest in a small community I'm in where if your team wins the World Cup you get a US$10 gift card, and I was randomly assigned Argentina. Secondly, today is Argentina's independence day. Go bother all the Argentinians in your life with this news at 2:30 in the morning as I already have. Not much more to say about my justification other than that this is a really pretty flag- the shade of sky blue used is just light enough to be tender and nice on the eyes, but just dark enough to still leave an impact, and that iconic sun in the center has been staring into my soul since I first saw this flag circa. age three.

Daily Featured Flag #12: Kyrgyz Republic

Today's daily featured flag for 8 July, 2026 is the flag of the Kyrgyz Republic, more commonly known as Kyrgyzstan. The Kyrgyz flag has often been said to look like the XBOX logo with some fire around it... and why is that a bad thing? Obviously, it's more complicated than that. This flag reminds me of the 1992-1995 flag of what was then the Republic of Macedonia, a.k.a. FYROM, now known as North Macedonia. This flag still manages to be unique, though- I like the stitching-esque pattern in the center. It is, unsurprisingly enough, a very sun-focused flag, and the insignia in the center, which turns out to be the shape of a Kyrgyz yurt's roof, fits in with the sun design very well.

Most post-Soviet flags are weirdly good. Did these countries just spawn in with drip? Except for Turkmenistan and Belarus. You are not welcome here. Daily Featured Flag #11: Solomon Islands

Today's daily featured flag for 7 July, 2026 is the flag of the Solomon Islands. Today happens to be their 48th anniversary of independence. Despite this fact, I also just really like this flag. Diagonal elements are definitely a favorite of mine, and the square pattern of stars in the top left are very nicely placed. Moreover, the colors are nicely picked and the aspect ratio is uniquely long. What's not to like?

Daily Featured Flag #10: Kingdom of Poland

Today's daily featured flag for 6 July, 2026 is the banner of the Kingdom of Poland, a nation which lasted from 1025 to 1795. This flag speaks to me in its own special way for several reasons. For one, it isn't a rectangle, which automatically makes it thirty times cooler. Secondly, it's Polish. Thirdly, it has a badass eagle on it. What's not to love here? The design of the aforementioned badass eagle may be complex, and the outline does add a fourth color, but honestly, this flag works anyway. Why, you may ask? Because it has an awesome eagle on it. End of story. Birds are cool on flags!

Daily Featured Flag #9: Venezuela

Today's daily featured flag for 5 July, 2026 is the flag of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. I've always liked the matching outfits of the former Gran Colombia except for Panama, but Venezuela honestly nails the aesthetic of yellow-blue-red bands. Ecuador overdoes it with the emblem, but Colombia looks a little bit lacking due to the height of the yellow part. Venezuela adds stars representing its provinces and makes the sizes of the tricolor equal, and that small change easily makes this the best of the three color-coordinated South American flags. Today happens to be Venezuela's 215th birthday, so if you've got any friends from the Bolivarian Republic, then wish them a happy birthday. Yes, wish *them* a happy birthday. You do know every citizen of every country was born the same day as their country's founding, right?

Daily Featured Flag #8: "Cowpens" Flag

Today's daily featured flag for 4 July, 2026 is the Cowpens flag, an alternative design for the original 13-star flag of the United States. I hope it's not surprising I chose an American flag of some sort for the fourth of July, which is when the United States of America celebrates its independence. This happens to be the 250th such anniversary, coincidentally enough! Anyhow, I decided that it would be far too formulaic to just pick the current United States flag. Also, I kind of hate the current flag because they just decided to keep adding stars despite the fact that basically anyone will tell you it looked better with 13 than it does with 50- that and 13 is objectively a cool number. However, I didn't want to just pick the Betsy Ross flag either- partially because of historical confusion surrounding is history, and partly because there's a better design- the Cowpens flag. Its first verifiable usage was during the War of 1812 between Proto-Canada and Baby U.S., but its mythological history stretches back to 1781. Regardless of whether you believe in the account of its usage during the American War of Independence, this flag is quite old by New World flag standards, and we also know that it was verifiably created by someone of the Batchelor family. I just think that the twelve stars in a circle surrounding one in the center works better as a design element, and it also reminds me of the Easton flag... maybe I'll talk about that one next year. Anyhow, here's the flag:

Daily Featured Flag #7: Detroit

Today's featured flag for 3 July, 2026 is the flag of the city of Detroit, Michigan, United States. This is a special post, because not only is this our seventh post- representing a week- but this is also our first requested flag! This... interesting banner comes from the lovely @sarroth, who mentioned that he finds it endearing how the designers of this flag didn't seem to care that according to all known laws of vexillology, there is no way that this flag should be able to fly. And yet, this plucky little monstrosity flies anyway, because flags don't care what vexillologists believe is impossible. All jokes aside, while this flag is objectively horrible, I love it in a so-bad-it's-good way, kin to the U.S. state of Maryland's banner in my mind. Please thank @sarroth for this flag recommendation, and feast your eyes upon the beauty of the flag of Detroit!

I think my love for this flag is becoming a little too unironic. I should probably get out of here.
