The advantages of combined analog / digital watches is that they offer the best of both worlds: The ability to estimate the approximate time at a glance on the analog dial and the precision of the digital display. LCA (liquid crystal analog) watches are another cool technology - LC display segments show analog hands instead of numbers. This has the benefit of added durability, since the watch doesn't need moving parts. However, cramming a segment for each minute into the display leads to tiny segments and therefore bad constrast and poor legibility. The depicted compromise would solve that issue: The "analog" dial is accurate to five minutes, which is enough for a quick estimate, while the digital display below offers a precise reading when needed.

The design of the recently released G-SHOCK GA-V01 is very controversial. I personally don't like it either, but I think the case on its own is very cool though! I made this mockup of the watch with a much more restrained dial and used the shape of the small mode indicator hand for the main hands. I think it fits the design language much better and does not overload the overall design direction with even more elements. I also think that the watch has quite an obvious Dune vibe in this colorway. Shai-Hulud or Sandworm would be a great nickname.
