Krispy Kreme

I believe Krispy Kreme is the best donut establishment. There is no comparison between Dunking donuts and Krispy Kreme. When you walk into Krispy Kreme it puts a smile on your face. My favorite donut from Krispy Kreme is the original glazed donut. I feel the warmth of the dunut as a I take my first bite. As I Continue to eat the donut, it continues to melt in my mouth. Before I know, the donut is gone and I am craving another. Krispy Kremes’ donuts are always freshly made. When I eat Dunkin Donuts donuts I do not feel the same. Most of the time the donuts look like they have been sitting on display for hours. Also what i like about Krispy Kreme is that you can see the donuts being made. Every time I walk into the store, I go write to the window and stare at the process the donuts go through. You can see the donuts getting made right before your eyes. Sometimes, the employees will grab a donut right off of the machine as soon as they are ready. When this happens, I clearly see I am getting the freshest donut possible, as it has just come off the machine. Overall, I believe that Krispy Kreme has the best donuts!

Presentation Review

I overall enjoyed everyone’s presentations because I got to learn about communities and issues I did not know of before.  In my opinion, I think that Hudson’s presentation on being vegan was one of the most effective.  It was clearly organized with good transition into talking about each genre.  He throughly explained where he shared his information, had statistics and graphs on his e-portfolio, and showed how all of his genres worked together in a sense.  He had a clear voice and was loud enough for everyone to hear him.  Also, it seemed as though he got a good response from people within the community which definitely made his campaign seem more effective.

I agree Hudson’s presentation was very effective. He received a good amount of followers and he even said himself he got emerged in the vegan community. This was really cool because it showed he is passionate about his topic. It was not just a assignment for him but a issue he cared about. I also think his Instagram was super cool and trendy. It captured the attention of Instagram users which is shown through the amount of followers he got. Also, the Buzzfeed article was really cool. I would definitely click on that and assume someone that works in that company made it. He was loud and I could hear him from the back of the room which adds to his presentation. Everyone did a great job on their projects!

I liked Hudson’s a lot too! The statistics and graphs made it a lot easier to follow along with what kind of feedback he got. I thought it was funny that he said that his roommates were all vegan and that he’ll probably end up being vegan.

I agree with Hudson having the most effective presentation. He displayed all the content that was needed for this project. He got the most followers and really captured me with all his pictures. Even all his roommates are vegan which shows he really knew about this topic a lot. Overall, great job with this presentation.

I really liked Hudson’s presentation as well. I agree that it was interesting learning about a community I previously did not have a lot of knowledge of. I think that he got back great feedback from he’s Instagram followers, I also really enjoyed his video of him making a vegan dish, if i ever wanted to try a vegan meal I know where to look!

Hudson did a great job presenting his cause. I find it very interesting that he stated he will probably be vegan by next year. He did a great job obtaining followers and keeping the audience engaged. Although I did not choose him for having the best presentation, I easily could have. I agree that he did a great job transitioning from one genre to the next.

Presentation Review

After seeing all of the hard work everyone put into their projects and seeing the type of feedback they got, I believe Adele’s project was most effective. Adele used many different methods to get her campaign out there. She even went out of her way to join Facebook groups that seemed to have an audience that would connect to her campaign and sharing her videos in there to get feedback such as “Netflix and Chill” groups, had the most Pintrest followers that included some of her infographs and other pictures, and created a video clip that showed the perks of going to see something in theatre rather than just sitting at home watching the movie or digital version. She also took the extra step in making a Prezi to show her 3 genres during the presentation which made her descriptions very organized and easy to follow. She spoke very clearly and there was no confusion about why she used each genre because she made sure to describe her reasoning for each aspect of her project. Overall I believed she put in the most work to get appropriate feedback and even showed results of views and comments she got when she put them in different groups. Plus, #stageoverscreen was a very cute hashtag as well.

I thought this presentation was very effective. She really engaged with joining other groups such as Facebook. She was the only one who made a Prezi which was very interesting. Presentation Review

Everyone did a great job presenting their projects to the class! Out of all the great presentations, I thought Adeles was the best. I like how she made a presentation to display here three genres. I was very surprised to see the amount of Pintrest followers that she had. According to others, it was hard to gain Pintrest followers, but she was able to get 60 followers! In addition, I really liked her video. It perfectly depicted what goes on when I try to watch a show on my computer at home. The use of making a presentation to display her 3 genres was very affective. It grabbed my attention instantly and also helped to keep her on track and organized while she presented. While watching her present, it was easy to tell that she put in a lot of time and effort into her project. I liked how she showed screenshots of peoples comments on things that she posted. After seeing her presentation and the methods she used to gain followers, I learned that there are many ways to obtain followers besides just following others and hoping they follow back.Overall, I think she did a great job presenting and getting her point out there!

Extra Credit

Walking into this warehouse, I do not know what to expect. When I walked through the main door, I did not see anyone! All that i saw was a bunch of pool tables. Then as I walked through the back door, I saw a bunch of people sitting at tables, talking, and drinking. I quickly found a seat and tried to fit in with everyone. The show began with a guest speaker talking about how she was a stalker and how she stalked Kate Martin. The whole time she talked I thought to myself who is Kate Martin? The guest speaker has funny but hard to understand because she talked so fast. She even said that she is “ going to pretend like she is talking to her grandma” because she talks to so fast. This lady was obsessed with Kate Martin. She followed her on twitter, read all her poetry work, and when Kate Martin walked by her for the first time, she got nervous and stared at the ceiling. When the guest speaker finished she introduce Kate Martin. The guest speaker did a great job of getting my attention. I was interested to see what Kate martin had to say. Kate Martin began by making a joke and then sated how she was going to read her poems. The first poem she read was Oracle. She said she wrote Oracle because she was asked to write on an anniversary of someone’s death. After hearing this, I was a little creeped out, but after listening to the poem, it was pretty good! Kate Martin continued to read poem after poem. I liked that were on the shorter end because I was able to focus without getting distracted. The poem I liked least was “ First husband was my last”. I thought it was way too long and by the end of it I had lost my attention. Kate Martin used many similes in her poem. Overall, I had a good first experience at the warehouse and am looking forward to going back next week for their final show!

The purpose of this campaign is to end slavery and to bring awareness about it. Slavery is a very big part of America’s history. The audience for this would students who walk by landis and also people who are interested things about slavery.  This is a visual presentation that uses print to explain its purpose. The rhetorical appeal that this uses is pathos. This piece creates an emotional response because when I think of slavery, I start to get sad and think about what an awful time that must have been. I do not think that this piece is effective. When I walk on landis, I rarely look down when I am walking. Therefore there is not a good chance that I see what is written on the side walk in chalk. In addition the poster uses many words and has small font written all over it. I would probably just continue to pass by as it contains too many words and does not visually grab my attention.

Viral Marketing

Since the word has become so technology based, printed marketing isn’t the huge deal any more. Viral Marketing is marketing that is on large social media web sites, such as Facebook and YouTube, some examples could also include all of those ads you see on any page, such as a cooking website or the best example I can give is anything free on the app store is LOADED with commercials in hopes that you buy their game to get rid of the commercials or in hopes that you get interested in the product their offering. What viral marketing does is spread advertisements and ideas that companies that have like wild fire over the internet and they hope many people view it. How it works is it has to have the correct audience and as soon as you capture that ONE person’s attention they will want to share it and more and more people will get the message. When it works is the tricky part, from my experience youtube gives you advirtisements based on what you’re watching, for example tutorials = make up commercials. Or lately Youtube has been promoting it’s own shows.

Another thing I really liked is the YouTube commercials and how they are using their own advertisement campaigns on their own social media network.

I like they way you describe viral marketing. I too mentioned Facebook and Youtube because those are the first things that came to my mind when I thought of viral marketing. The app store is also a great idea for an example that uses viral marketing. I also like how you used the words “wile fire” to explain how an idea can spread. What exactly is Viral marketing and how does it work? That is the question to be answered. Viral marketing is the process in which you display a brand or idea to the public. The most common method of product promotion that relies on getting customers to market an idea, product, or service is through email. An example of viral marketing in use is Hotmail. Hotmail is an email services that used viral marketing by using the users to advertise. Any time someone sends an email there is a link embedded into the message that allows the recipient to click and sign up for their own Hotmail account. Generally emails are the best way for companies to do viral marketing. Email spam and junk folders are overflowing with emails from companies advertising their products. I know that I currently receive multiple emails daily from Victoria’s Secret that lists all of their deals in store and online. Several times I have gone to the store after these emails and went shopping. This is how effective viral marketing is. Cases in which which viral marketing does not work is when the emails sent and the advertisements received do not cater to the recipient.

 Viral marketing is when you spread and idea by using the internet. This is a very effective way that companies spread ideas. Social network sites are key when using viral marketing. Some common types of sites that are used to distribute viral marketing would be Youtube, Facebook, and Instagram. This allows for ideas to spread quickly over the internet. This is a great way to advertise products as people are spreading them by liking, sharing, and even commenting on a post. Viral marketing works when there is a funny video or advertising. When something is funny or catchy, people show their friends so they can enjoy it too. If the marketing idea is displayed well and gets peoples attention, the idea will keep spreading. Viral marketing is a great way to get ideas out now that so many people use social media. I believe it is one of the best ways to market something.

The piece of art that I like is the picture of confusing laundry symbols. It appeals to me because I always have trouble figuring out what button to press when I use a laundry machine other than my own. This happened when I do laundry at at my dorm or at one of my friends’ house. The purpose of this piece is to depict that laundry machines can be confusing. The audience would be people who do laundry and get confused by certain symbols on the machine. The picture is in black and white and contains 20 different symbols. This picture is visual and print.  Laundry machines are confusing at times and different machines have special patterns to them. For example, one may so hot, warm, and cold. While another machine may have 3 dots, 2 dots, and 1 dot. This would be confusing to someone at first until they would realize that 3 dots means hot, 2 dots means warm, and 1 dot means cold. What I learned from this piece that can assist me in Project #3 is that some pieces can get points across using just pictures and very little words. The piece did not contain a ton of writing to help me understand what it mean. Instead it used symbols and a word or two under them. Even with this type of style and design, I was still able to understand the point that was trying to be made. In addition, the piece was more appealing to me because it had pictures and not too many words.

The books is not always better than the movie. Books have a lot more detail compared to movies which only have a few hours to fit everything in the movie. That being said, occasionally movies do a better job using those few hours than some books to with hundreds of pages. I believe the hunger games was better as a movie. The book was interesting, but did not have the same affect on me as the movie did. With the movie, I could not take my eyes off of the screen for a second. I liked the fact that I was able to watch all the action that was happening, and see the facial expression and true personality of the characters. Books allow to you learn and understand that characters, but the way the movie does it is way more appealing to me. This may be because I prefer always prefer to watch a movie over reading a book. The Hunger Games was a book that I feel had to be seen as a movie. I only read the first hunger games book but yet I have watched 3 Hunger Game movies. This has to do with the fact that i believed the movie was better than the book. Overall, books are better than movies considering the amount of detail that can be put in them, but sometimes the movie is better than the book. In this case, the Hunger Games was better as a movie than as a book.

My favorite movie is Like Mike. The main characters are Tracy Reynolds and Calvin. The setting takes place at a foster home and a NBA arena. Calvin gets a pair of shoes from a lady who works at the foster home. One day, he was getting bullied by other kids in the foster home, and they threw his shoes on telephone pole wires. Little did they know, the shoes were signed MJ on the tongue. That night, the shoes were struck by lightning. The next day, calvin gets the shoes down from the wires and puts on the shoes. Since the shoes got struck by lightning, when calvin wears them he plays like Michael Jordan. This leads to Calvin becoming so good, that he ears a stop on a team in the NBA. The conflict is that in the middle of the last game of the season, that either sends the team to the playoffs or not, Calvin’s shoe breaks. He no longer can where them and has to play the final minutes of the game without them. This is a major conflict because he is no longer an amazing basketball player. The purpose of this movie is to have a narrative story about a teenager becoming amazing at basketball because of a pair of shoes. The audience are people who watch movies and like basketball. The movie uses pathos to draw the viewers in. People feel bad for calvin because he lives in a foster home and gets bullied by older teenagers in the foster home. The movie consists of both visual and audio. Like Mike has been my favorite movies for years because it teaches many valuable lessons.

Narrative Genre

My issue that I have chosen is Climate Change. This issue can definitely benefit from a narrative genre in a large number of ways. One of the first is in amount of scientific jargon that is used in each side. There are many biases in the debate that use this area to push to one side or the other, so a clearly narrative driven one would help explain the facts from neutral standpoint. Another Area where I could see the Issue being benefited from the narrative genre is in the way the public as a whole views the issue. The key of the narrative would be one of neutrality that also does not play into a particular rhetorical strategy in any way. If on of these areas, for example Pathos, it would push the opinion of the public to one side thus not making it neutral and there for biased to a side. It is very hard in todays media to find such a source but if one could be found or made it would really help the overall population gain more insight on the issue of climate change and how its temperature increase will actually effect the world as a whole.

Narrative

Considering my topic, the problem with ethics being stem cell research, a narrative piece could be highly beneficial to the end goal of having stem cells available for the research of medical aspects they can be involved in. Something in the narrative genre could be telling a story of someone who had a disease cured by stem cells, or someone’s skin that was repaired using skin grown from stem cells. All these scenarios would’ve most likely been trials, but they can give accounts on the benefits of the research. Hearing the benefits that a real person has reaped can impact a persons opinion greatly. If people can see all the great things that can be done with stem cells, it would be much easier for the research to be backed. The narrative genre would give this problem so much more life, because when you just speak about the possibilities without accounts, it just seems like fairy tales. It allows those who are fighting for stem cells to show what they are really fighting for, and thats the applications medically that can help a lot of people.

Although I do not know a lot about your topic, I can see how beneficial a narrative genre composition would be. I said that same thing in my paper about how hearing a narrative piece would impact peoples opinions. Narrative Genre Composition

My issue is if student athletes should get paid like professional athletes. People within the community, such as student athletes themselves, tend to have a different perspective on this issue because they are the ones actually playing the sports. A narrative genre composition from a student athlete would greatly benefit this issue. It will allow outside viewers and people who do not play sports for a college team see what an actual student athlete goes through. It will help people and the audience understand a better mean of how much student athletes do. A narrative genre on whether student athletes should get paid like professionals would affect peoples pathos. Hearing how busy student athletes are, and all there stories about what they go through on a daily basis, will allow people to see how hard it is to be a student athlete. I believe it would change some peoples opinions and make them believe that student athletes should get paid like professional athletes. A narrative genre is a great way to tell a story from a student athlete. When I interviewed in athlete for my last paper on this subject, my opinion on this issue started to change already and I questioned which side I am on about this issue. I can only imagine the effect a  narrative genre composition would on people.

Ted Talk

Jane Mcgoingals’ presentation really caught my attention. It caught my attention because I am a gamer myself, and she stated that she can add 7 and half minutes to my life! The audience consist of people who like gaming and people who have unfortunate conditions. Jane use pathos when she explains her story about how she had suicidal thoughts and did not want to live anymore. She uses face to face communication that is both visual and audio. She transfers smoothly from talking about video games to her own experience. It was very amusing to me how she used video games to help her get over her suicidal thoughts and to be whole again. It is important that Janes’ presentation was a speech that was face to face. This helped the audience get drawn in more and feel more sympathy for her story. It is crazy that doing a few little steps everyday can help someone to live up to 10 years longer! Overall, I really enjoyed her presentation and thought she did a great job!

This is a photo consists of three Star Wars character. The guy in the back appears to be trying to give a flower to the girl in front of him, but she is already with another man. The audience for this would be people who watch Star Wars and people who play with legos. The purpose of this photo is to display a guy who is trying to get a girl who is already taken. The rhetorical appeal that is seen, is pathos. The look on the guys face who is trying to give the flower to the girl, evokes sadness because sees her with another man, and is unable to give her the flower.  This photo can be described as a narrative as it is using fictional characters.This piece of work is visual and can be viewed in things like a magazine and on the internet. The media crafts the message that the girl this guy wants, is a already taken, and he may be a little too late. She does not even realize that he is behind her, which brings a sad face to the poor man. If I were to remediate this, I would add more detail so viewers who do not watch Star Wars would understand what is going on better. Being that I do not watch Star Wars, I do not know any of the characters’ names or background information. If I did, I would be able to better comprehend what is going on in the photo.
