i really hope i'm not bothering you with my questions I'm just curious about your process. but, i was wondering, how you got into making comics? or what inspired you to get into making them? and any tips for beginners?
a friend ran a small comics workshop in 2020-2021! got me thinking about doing those. I did one OCT (War for Rayuba) which got me making lots of small comics on a schedule. As for beginner tips, draw lots of comics, read comics broadly (especially influential work outside of manga and western superhero comics), and read the theory (scott mccloud's making comics is a pretty big one)
Hi there! I just discovered your art and it's gorgeous. I have a question though about the alternative Lancer art you did that's featured in COMP/CON: what exactly are they?
I can tell the first one is a Tortuga-Minotaur hybrid, and I think the second is some kind of Tokugawa/Enkidu-Manticore but that's only guesswork, and I cannot for the life of me pin down what the third machine is supposed to be (maybe a Barbarossa hybrid?) Sorry for the kind of silly question but these are the thoughts that tend to keep me up at night and I'd love to hear from the artist themselves on the matter.
just a hacking tortuga, its a popular build!
tokugawa, based off how thorn angels are designed in tom's comic K6BD. i drew this before the enkidu was released!
bug-themed death's head!

hello! i was curious:
1. what artists inspired your art style?
2. who are your favorite artists?
3. do you have any art book recommendations/ fav art books?
you don't have to answer all of these either! i just wanted to learn a bit more about your inspirations.
hi! i really like old american illustration & old manga! esp. artists with strong and clean lineart. the artbook i am enjoying right now is the Artist's Master Series: Color & Light! super recommend it.
I saw your Pluto art on your twitter and it was SOOO GOOOOOOD!!!!!! Like, crazy good!! The shadow covering a part of Gesicht’s face and Atom sitting right next to him!
thanks!!! i loove pluto
A batch of fanart for some comics that I've been digging at this year's Shortbox Comics Fair! Comics and authors linked below.
Birds of the Storm by @mathildejr
Does Maribella want a croissant? by @gaiapapoila
Bunny Punch by @michaelfurler
The Quiet End of the Mundane Age by @theoplum
Ocean by @heyluchie
I've been posting tiny reviews on twitter and insta about each comic. But in summary, each of these comics made me laugh or marvel or feel emotional, or simply everything at once. I've read so many great comics so far, and regret that I don't have the time to make fanart for many more haha.
There's such a wonderful range of comics and cartooning on display at this year's fair, so I hope you'll check it out and pick out a few for yourself. : ) Less than a week left to go!
A belated batch of fanart drawings, post-SB Fair. :' )
Your Heart is a Muscle the Size of Your Fist by @punkratkid
A Three Body Problem by @juangeedraws
A Minor Catalogue by Wenting Li
Meryl by C. A. Strike
My thoughts on each comic are buried somewhere on twitter/insta, but in short, they were all wonderful. ^ ^ They're not available at the fair anymore since it ended, but I'm sure they'll live on in some form, sometime in the future. Please check out these artists' work! I had the chance to slowly read, I'd say... about 75-80% of the comics this year? It was astounding/inspiring/overwhelming to experience and be reminded of the variety of things you can do with a short comic. Short comics are both approachable to make but difficult (for me) to control and land with a deft hand, in a limited number of pages... What's a great, satisfying bite? This all reminded me of how enjoyable and engrossing it can be to digest and navigate comics. (I don't read enough these days, clearly.) Wish I had planned my lil one-man-promo-campaign a bit better, but I did more drawings than I expected hahaha.
Anyhow, SB Fair was a great experience this year. Keep an eye out for yet another batch of great comics next year! And if you picked up my comic this time around, thanks so much & happy reading!
I just finished your comic A Three Body Problem I bought at the fair and adored it! Love your style, love the themes, the twists, the depth... I've written my own androids before, I've read many more, I just never get tired of them... But there's something extra special to tales concerning "the same model". Some of my friends are very concerned by doppelgangers. I'm not afraid of them, but the idea that you're not unique, that models like you are like lost twins you have everything yet nothing in common with... It's all so tasty. Would Io have investigated the death if it had been another face but their own?
Maybe, but since it was the same, it became too compelling. Io needs to make sense of it, WE need to make sense of it. Argh. SO good.
Your work and Ver's have really motivated me to try and make a more serious comic out of some of my older short stories. Thank you. Reading your work was very inspirational! <3 Hope you did well at the fair!!
Thank you!!!! I'm glad my comic has been well-received. I hope to see more cool scifi androids in the future!!!

A survey astronaut, Io, unravels the murder of a private eye and his final unsolved case! The strange thing is, they're both cyborgs of the same model...
If you want to read about cyborgs, clones, and capitalism, this one's for you.
