that's not very helpful.
maybe the open window will help.
try the open window instead.
There’s a quote from Bert where he says he‘s “known big bird since he was a little bird” and the thought of it makes my heart cry so here’s that
Shout out to all the Project Hail Mary fanartists who are very aware that Rocky weighs 370lbs and cannot live in our atmosphere and then completely ignore those facts to draw Rocky hugging/snuggling Grace and sleeping on his chest no problem you're doing the Lord's work
gettin real tired of people pretending that the writers not explaining every little thing in detail is the same thing as a plothole tbh
has to think once while watching something whoa this is bad writing
The Cinema Sins effect

Something to take a moment today and remember: As a collective, imperfect, often-divided human species, there is one disease--one--that we have ever managed to hunt to extinction. Because after thousands of years of watching it torture our children to death? Saving SOME people, saving MOST people, wasn't fucking good enough.
We have never hated anything more than we hated smallpox.
We have never loved anything as much as we love each other.
Happy Smallpox Eradication Day.
getting lost in boston is fun because I turned around on a street corner three times and some guy yelled "hey stupid! the bus is that way!" very helpful interaction and accurate insult, 10/10 no notes
one time I walked around a building a couple times looking for a bathroom and this guy went "this bitch thinks she's on a merrygoround, where the fuck are you tryna go? bathroom? one floor down to the right behind the door that says bathroom."
My very first time in Boston. I was absolutely miserable, trying to drag my giant suitcase up a lengthy set of stairs in the pouring rain. This guy who had already reached the top looked back at me with the most pure expression of disgust I’ve ever seen in anyone’s eyes, marched back down the stairs, grabbed my suitcase, carried it to the top, left it there for me, and walked away without ever saying a word. I think about him often.
For the people in the notes going "why is Boston like this": a) the insults are a way to show you have no ulterior motives when helping someone (and don't need to be thanked or repaid), and b) Boston was settled by the Irish
also the Italians. mixing Irish and Italian sociocultural attitudes had the effect of multiplying the Sass Levels by the power of infinity, in the sense that you get all of the clever dry wit of the Irish and all of the bitchy gossipy condensation of the Italians rolled into one very stereotypically overly-friendly American package.
also worth noting that who you are to them doesn’t matter. they’ll talk to strangers like that and will also talk to their best friends like that. they’re just Like That.

Via Fiona Tribe: "Yes, Swiss scientist Fritz Zwicky coined the term 'dark matter' which is impressive, but he also coined the term 'spherical bastard' to describe people who are bastards no matter which way you look at them, and I think that should be celebrated more."

Absolutely fair!
The hard part here is the opposite—what headcanons do I have left that I haven’t been posting incessantly for the past three months XD
I’ve given Carl the headcanonical name Carl Weaver. He comes from NASA, an administrator/management role there similar to Eva Stratt in her position as an ESA administrator. They met very early on after the discovery of the Petrova line and the conclusive proof that the sun was dimming and that these things were related. Stratt was the leader of the ESA’s Petrova Taskforce at the very beginning, before anyone had even started proposing solutions yet, let alone settled on any. Stratt was representing the ESA in a meeting with NASA about getting a probe to Venus ASAP to see what the Petrova Line actually even was, and Carl was the person there who seemed, to her, to actually truly understand what an existential threat this was going to be. The one person she talked to who seemed to realize that this would not be a quick fix, that this was going to alter the world in unrecognizeable ways forever. Even among the panic and frenetic work by the other scientists on the early Petrova Taskforce trying to figure out what the hell this was and what they were even dealing with, there was this sense to her that… it just wasn’t sinking in for them. What this was going to mean. In Carl she saw someone who got it. And it scared him as much as it scared her, and because of that rather than despite it he was ready to actually face what had to be done about it for the long haul, and that’s when the global Petrova Taskforce 2.0 was truly born.
Stratt saw the implications rolling out ahead of humanity very early, before anyone else was willing to emotionally grapple with it. In Carl Weaver she found someone else who was also actually seeing the long-term vision and was willing to commit to what needed to be done about it, way past just launching this probe real fast.
Stratt had hoped she’d found the same thing in Grace—a glimmer of something fierce and brave and seeing what the future held and refusing to let that happen—and was just. Perpetually frustrated and disappointed that he refused to be that man again after those first astrophage trials.
Carl was the one Stratt planned to hand over the keys to the project to if/when anything happened to her. But she expected Grace to be there, too. Carl gets her and she kept trying to get through to Grace, kept hoping that it would finally click and he would get her too. She does want to be understood! To have the people she’s been trusting with the fate of the world more than she trusts pretty much anybody else understand what that means! And Carl does, and Grace keeps refusing to. And it hurts. Because they were all kind of supposed to be a team, together at the end of the world after the Hail Mary launched, and. well. that was not allowed to happen.
Carl does take over the project when she eventually goes to prison; he’s also the one who orchestrates getting her out when she’s actually needed again. They can rely on each other. And there’s a hole in their trio where Grace should have been. But there always kind of was, wasn’t there? Because as much as she wanted Grace to understand, tried to get him to understand, he never did, not really.
He's cooked, don't get attached
